I'm freaking out now. Mine says that it's in Greensboro and in transit, so I should be getting it tomorrow instead of Wednesday! I'm glad that I didn't spring for the 1 day shipping after all. :p

I'm getting pretty pissed. My IntelMac was purchased on 1/16 with minimal upgrades (the only thing I changed was upgrade to 1 GB RAM). It is supposed to ship today, and most people have said their mac shipped before the estimated date. I need it to ship today so I can get it by the weekend!

Mine shipped today too.

Ordered on 16th with 256mb GFX & 2Gb Ram CTO :D

A week now and it should be here - anticipation is killing me (I don't know why - I have 5 mac's already :D )

Imagine how it's killing me! the Intelmac will be my first Mac from a long time Windows user (notice I didn't say Windows lover).

I ordered mine before you people and it hasn't shipped yet. I better get notice today.

Awwwwww man! I ordered mine on the 12th with 1Gb RAM, 256Mb GFX and Wireless KB/Mouse. Supposed to be dispatched on the 20th...some chance, apparently it will leave on the 26th! I'm so bummed. So much for first come first served

Ah well, this old Powerbook has served me three years, it will last many more days still I hope :D

What should I do?

Hey guys. So i was given an estimated ship date of January 23rd which is yesterday. I check my status today and its now delayed until March 8th! And i'm not just waiting for this to upgrade an old computer. I just moved out and currently have no computer which ain't easy for a university student with many online classes and so forth. I just called them and asked what's up. They pulled the whole custom order thing on me, saying that's delaying it. All i ordered was apple care and 1GB of ram, and i know a lot of you have already received your computers. Do you guys have any idea how i can convince them to send me something ealier? Cause i'm really screwed now for school.

Update.....

I got mine today!!!!! :)

Fedex showed up while I was leaving for work.....

UPS should be showing up tomorrow with my 2 gigs of memory...

I'm not gonna touch it till the weekend... Quite possibly call in sick monday :D

Well my Replacement iMac was finally delivered today. And it's in one piece thank god!

Just set it up, and synced the wireless kybd/mouse, and all is working great.

Intial Impressions are this thing flys even with 512mb of RAM I can't imagine how fast it would be with 2GB. I'm a musician and use Finally and Reason quite often, so I will test those under Rosetta later on Tonight or Tomorrow, and will report back with the results.

If the results are good, I'll keep my MacBook Pro order, b/c I need to use the applications for School almost everyday.

Going back to use this powerbook G4, is real slow, compared to the new iMac.

Overall, I'm very happy, and will probably add more RAM in the coming weeks, just to give it an extra boost.

Will post a more detailed review, in the Computers section of the forums this weekend, once I've had more time to play with it.

Hopefully you will all get yours soon too! Now I need the MacBooks to Ship :)

I can't decide between the iMac and the MBP. I have about 2 grand to spend, I can get much more for my money with the iMac but I'm a media arts student and the portability is great (but not absolutely neccessary). I am SO stuck on what to do. Any ideas?

You got the same PowerBook I have.

and believe me the difference between the two, is like night and day.

You can get a decent amount of cash for that PowerBook.

Go for both if you can.

I unfortunately had to sell the PowerBook to get the cash for my new Intel mac. I am going berserk trying to decide which one to buy. Also - is the 128mb vs. 256mb video ram essential?

Glad to hear about your replacement imac. If you have a printer connected to the imac, can you give me your impressions of printing, specifically printing speed? Thanks.

I have a network enabled Brother MFC-420CN I haven't installed the drivers yet, but I hope to later. I will post results hopefully Tonight, if not definetely Tomorrow Night.

depending... they all say (and right of course) that unless you do video, gaming, CAM design, 3D, or animation graphics, it is safe to stick with 128MB VRAM. VRAM doesn;t play a crucial role for just displaying, editing, creating, still images. quality is not in issue here.

but i tell you from personal experience, if EVENTUALLY need to **render** lots of images at a very tight rate, or require direct caching of bitmap data for fater graphics operations, efficiency and speed are in proportion to VRAM.

and, since you can;t upgrade video for these mac (for the most part in the future) it would be a good investment those CA $90.00.

Yes. I honestly can't make up my mind, for video (which I will be editing soon) I suppose the iMac would be better, on-site portability comes second to power it should seem. I'll probably order the iMac.

[RANT rant-topic = Apple Customer Support]

Well whoop-dee-doo! I just got off the phone with Apple (again) and APPARENTLY my iMac has been set back to the 2nd Feb (from 20th Jan --> 26th Jan) So I'm not a happy bunny. however as yet I haven't got an EMAIL from Apple to tell me of the fact, last thing I heard was it would be dispatched on or before the 26th. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I'm not a happy bunny! :(

What's worse is that half* the people on this board who bought an iMac after me (same spec or higher) have already got their macs. It almost makes me wonder if they have run out of British Wireless Keyboards! I just wish they would get their acts together and tell me when my mac will realistically ship. Hell I could have waited and ordered a MacBook Pro and I'd get it at proactically the same time (assuming that this gets delyed yet further....OOOOOOOOOOOH I'M SO MAD!!! [/RANT]

*Gross exageration, between 10 and 15

Well that was easy enough. Since i posted this, i cancelled my order, went down to my school computer store and picked up the one intel imac they had which happened to be one i wanted (17inch) and am now typing on it right now. Good luck to all y'all who are in the same position i was in this morning.

The iMac and the MBP are almost equal on power. Obviously in the previous gen machines the iMac G5 totally blew the PowerBook G4 away. However, I think the Intel iMac and the MBP will perform more or less identically. So if I were you I'd go for the MBP because it will have the same amount of power and you have the added bonus of being portable.

Good to hear you got your iMac but buying from a local store isn't an option for many of us. Firstly, I want the upgraded video so I can't get that in the store and have to order online. Even if I could get it in a store my nearest Apple store is 400 miles away and doesn't have any of the new iMacs in stock so it'd be no use to me even if I had the time and energy to make that journey.

I want the portability, but after playing with the iMac in the store, the big screen and faster processor and bigger drive...I feel like I could get more accomplished. I can't see which is a higher priority.

I just got my new intel imac today...everything is well so far. I was digging through the box and noticed there is not a seperate install disc for Ilife 06...is it safe to believe the reinstall of ilife is on my install disc that came with it? Thanks...

More FedEx maddness

Well it seems that my iMac is still in Shanghai, China and it's status is "At local FedEx facility". It may just be my local and the China time screwing with my head but, I think mine should come on Wednesday. Because it shipped on the 23rd (I think) and I had 2-3 day shipping, also it said estimated delivery on the 26th (If they are refrering to the 26th China's time then they mean the 25th my time which is tomorrow!!)

Oh why is FedEx mocking me? I wish my package was out of China already :p :D

that's exactly what my fedex tracker says so I guess my imac is sitting next to your imac then wherever they are. I called apple to complain about them pushing the shipping date back (I just bought the standard 17 inch last week) and they gave me a 30 dollar credit, but didn't offer RAM like some other people got, although I doubt they just mail out sticks of RAM. Oh well. I'm getting really aggravated.
