Sounds like things are backed up for some orders. I'm regretting not having gone to the local Apple Store to see if they have the 20" with 256 VRAM in stock.

I read a post on the World of Warcraft forums that suggests some Apple Stores have the upgraded VRAM 20" in stock--just a tip for those of you who think online/phone order is your only option if you're looking for 1st party upgrades.

Well mine has been in Alaska for more than 24 hours now. This afternoon it starting saying Int'l shipment release so I think it has cleared customs. Hopefully it is taking a red-eye tonight.
As I check the tracking every few minutes... It now says in transit, so it looks like she is on the move. No word on where she is heading, but I hope it is my way!

Ok, my iMac has arrived.

I'm fairly impressed, but I'm getting killed on memory, with just 512. I have another 512 stick on order. I realize I should probably have gotten a gig stick, but it wasn't going to ship for a few more days, and the 512 stick I will have by Friday. I think having 1 gig total will be good, for a few weeks.

I *really* want to point out a couple things:

I have an EyeTV 200, and I have the EyeTV 2 Software. It works *perfect*. In fact, it is much less sluggish than my 1.5 GHZ Powerbook G4 even though it is running in Rosetta and Elgato isn't officially supporting Intel yet.

I was really surprised by EyeTV's performance. Nice.

Next, Toast 7 runs fine in Rosetta.

PROBLEM: (I would like help if anyone has an idea). My trash icon in the dock always shows trash even after I delete something. Any ideas?

Overall, I think it is a good system. I'm not in love with it yet, but I see the promise. I'm sure it will be better with a gig of memory, and the fact that Rosetta applications work so well is impressive. I'd still prefer a Core Duo Mac Mini.

Eye TV works.. Glad about that.

Toast 7 - cool another tick on my list :)

Trash can? Have you repaired disk permissions?

Got mine yesterday. I haven't tried much yet, but it seems pretty snappy, even with only 512mb of RAM.

So far I've been unsuccessful in getting my Cisco VPN software to work on it; I'm wondering if maybe it's not compatible with Rosetta or something.

I will try some other apps later today :)

Can you give a clearer idea of "fine" in Toast 7? For instance, what task did you use to evaluate T7? DVD backup?

Anyhow, thanks for detailing your new system. Always good to hear.

It is here!

Hi people! My iMac (20", 256MB VRAM, 512 MB RAM) finally arrived today, and let me tell you: It is sweet and super-fast (okay for a guy switching from an iBook G3 500MHz), and huge! PPC Apps still seem fast to me, since they are alot faster than on the iBook.

And now, to all waiters, a word of caution: My wife thought i was going insane for standing by the window most of the day, BUT, in the end it turned out to be essential for my iMac arriving here safe and sound: At about 2pm a white van pulls up in front of our appartment block. I thought it was some private transporter since it had no logo on it whatsoever. Then a guy carries a large package towards our appartment. "Hey", i exclaimed, "this could be it!" But noone rang the bell. "Probably, someone's moving in", I thought. About 10 minutes later, I see the guy wobble back to his car with the package. Now why would anyone do that? So I grabbed a jacket, ran out, and caught the guy before he left: "You lookin' for Mr. Marvy?" I asked. "Oh yes!" he said "I couldn't find his door." I just rolled my eyes, but was then too excited to complain. I signed his little paper, and carried the large package into my appartment.

Sooooooo, when the day of arrival finally comes: Be sure to keep an eye on those mail men!! :D

I know what you mean. I had to ask the guy who is doing some remodeling on our house to sign for mine when it came.

Damn apple. Just been on to track my order and now I get

The requested application was not found on this server.

:( :( :(

Added to TNT own site telling me still

Well, yes, I did backup my entire iPhoto Library with it.

However, I think more important is that I tested converting some MPEG4 videos into a DVD disk image, and the encoding was going about equal fast to my Powerbook G4 (actually a few notches quicker). I guess that isn't great, but at least it isn't slower, and it should get better, in the future, when they update the program.

My trash can problem. It has went away thankfully.

Also, I accidently shutdown the machine last night (I normally just put my Macs to sleep). Well, it has seemed even faster after the restart, significantly. Maybe that initial boot after setup and everything is a little slower.

Finally something for us...

Although this is the official, "I just bought a (shloudn't it be "an" instead of "a") Imac Core duo" thread, and I've ordered a Macbook Pro, I will nonetheless post here, because I have seen how impatient you are all awaiting your Imacs and checking the Apple Store order status... I am doing it too. :D

But I found the greatest widget ever...

Just check it out for yourself... :D

Well, I now have to go through the hell so many of you have gone through already.

My first ever Mac has been shipped - five days earlier than expected!
Code:
Jan 25, 2006 5:56 AM Package data transmitted to FedEx
I have bookmarked the Fedex tracking site and can suffer with the rest of you updating the page every couple of hours.

Some progress on mine:
Code:
Jan 26, 2006 10:45 PM At local FedEx facility SHANGHAI CN
Jan 25, 2006 5:56 AM Package data transmitted to FedEx
I wasn't this psyched up when I was tracking my last Dell PC.

LOL!!! Good one..... :p

I got mine today at 9:30am. Luckily my girlfriend was home to pick sign for it, because i've been in school all day. Only 4 more hours to go.

to make matters worse, both of my three hour lab classes today are taught in the same room, which is a lab that has at least 15 G5 imacs...totally taunting me.

I'm in for a long wait.....

Just to sum things up, I ordered my iMac on Jan 16th, 20" 256mb VRAM AppleCare, and iWork Pre-Installed via the Apple Online Education store. The iMac shipped out on the 23rd and has remained in Shanghai, China since. It's just sitting there...not moving at all for the past few days.

Today it was updated with this: Estimated delivery Feb 1, 2006 10:30 AM...I'm pretty angry, I paid extra for 2-3 day shipping and it's taking forever for it to come, other people who have ordered iMacs are recieving them and I have yet to get mine. I know I'll have to call up Apple to complain about the 2-3 day shipping, I'm hopefull I can get my $33 extra shipping charge back, or maybe more. I don't know why this is taking so long, I do hope that maybe it's an error and it'll be at my door when I get home but, for now my hope is fading fast while my anger of FedEx increases. :(

Just so you know, I called to complain when mine was delayed (March 9), and they offered me 50 bucks right off the top (I went ahead and cancelled anyways and went to Amazon). I bet you could get your 33 bucks back, plus 50 bucks for your time. I would just tell them that you would like a discount to make the situation right. The guy I talked to didn't hesitate.

Thanks for the news, I would cancel but, the machine is CTO so I doubt I can just cancel my order after they already made it for me and I can't get the machine I wanted from Amazon.com or anywhere else, not with the same specs and software and the education discount. I'm really disapointed with my order though, everything I've ordered off of the Apple Online Store usually comes very fast and sometimes before the estimated delivery date. This time it didn't...then again everything else I've ordered was within the USA. I'm starting to dislike international shipping...ugh...:(

for those of you getting your iMacs today, right before you got it did you tracking status say it had arrived to a facility near you? Mine still says its in transit from Alaska. I really hope to get mine today, esp. within the next 2 hours or I won't get to play with it until 11 tonight b/c I have class :'(

Yes, but you need to remember that the tracking doesn't get updated immediately. I only saw all of this now, 4 hours after my computer was delivered. Here's what my FedEx tracking says from my computer's full journey:

Jan 26, 2006 8:41 AM Delivered CHICAGO, IL
8:39 AM Delivery exception ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL
6:13 AM At local FedEx facility ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL
5:12 AM At dest sort facility CHICAGO, IL
4:11 AM Arrived at FedEx location CHICAGO, IL
4:26 AM Departed FedEx location INDIANAPOLIS, IN
1:49 AM Arrived at FedEx location INDIANAPOLIS, IN

Jan 25, 2006 4:00 PM Departed FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK
12:58 PM Int'l shipment release ANCHORAGE, AK

Jan 24, 2006 4:05 PM Arrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK
4:04 PM In transit ANCHORAGE, AK
1:37 AM Arrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK

Jan 23, 2006 1:34 AM Left origin SHANGHAI CN
1:33 AM Picked up SHANGHAI CN Package received after FedEx cutoff

Jan 22, 2006 6:14 AM Package data transmitted to FedEx

So, those of you who have it already, how long did it remain in the local Fedex facility in Shanghai? I see that for Limeibook86, it's been there three days, although it also seems that the status is often late to be updated.
