Just to sum things up, I ordered my iMac on Jan 16th, 20" 256mb VRAM AppleCare, and iWork Pre-Installed via the Apple Online Education store. The iMac shipped out on the 23rd and has remained in Shanghai, China since. It's just sitting there...not moving at all for the past few days.

Today it was updated with this: Estimated delivery Feb 1, 2006 10:30 AM...I'm pretty angry, I paid extra for 2-3 day shipping and it's taking forever for it to come, other people who have ordered iMacs are recieving them and I have yet to get mine. I know I'll have to call up Apple to complain about the 2-3 day shipping, I'm hopefull I can get my $33 extra shipping charge back, or maybe more. I don't know why this is taking so long, I do hope that maybe it's an error and it'll be at my door when I get home but, for now my hope is fading fast while my anger of FedEx increases. :(

You know in that image of the FedEx delivery thing, it says your shipment had a future delivery requested. What that would mean to me, is that Apple said to delivery your package on a particular date and til then its in limbo.

A little update...

So, those of you who have it already, how long did it remain in the local Fedex facility in Shanghai? I see that for Limeibook86, it's been there three days, although it also seems that the status is often late to be updated.
After speaking with my Mom she was able to call FedEx. She found out that my iMac left Shanghai China to Alaska on a plane about 10am this morning (NJ time), it can take 15-20 hours for the plane to reach Alaska so the plane can arrive Friday morning in Alaska. Then it has to clear customs (which will take forever) and with any luck I should get my iMac on Tuesday Jan 31st...It seems like the 2-3day shipping I paid for is nothing special and that I get to wait longer for my computer. I still plan to call up Apple tonight and see about me getting some shipping related discount. This sucks... :(

Would anyone here have any interest in a Apple OEM 512MB stick to pair with their stock chip?

PM me an offer.
Post a thread in the Marketplace about it, and who knows someone may need it. I know when my iMac arrives I'll probably do the same thing since I bought my RAM online.:)

I will, but I figured I'd see if someone in here wanted it first.

born on this day

continuing from an earlier thread.

BORN ON THIS DAY! My intelimac just arrived, nice Amazon must have sent ONE day even though I paid for TWO.

1400$ shipped to the door, baby is performing beautifully.

Anyone know how to IMPORT settigs from having saved my HOME folder from the last imac? I don't see that option in the migration assistant.

well, one thing

Now, working on setting up this new puppy,

seems to have an old issue. clicking clicking clicking. Sounds like a kitchen timer, it WASN'T there for the first 20 minutes of life, what IS this?

GET OUT OF THE ROOM!

If you want to diffuse this on your own, cut the blue wire, not the red.

Looks like I'm in the same boat as a lot of you guys. I ordered mine on the 24th and it is set to arrive on the 31st. Mine is currently sitting in Narita-shi, Japan apparently. The wait is killing me. :)

I ordered the basic model...512 mb ram, 128 mb video. I now wish I had ordered upgraded video but oh well. I did order another 1 gb of memory from another online dealer. This will be my first Macintosh ever. I've even started a blog to document my transition from Windows to Mac OS X. If you want to check it out, click on my homepage link.

I think that Apple's pulling a few tricks to make the delay appear like it's on FedEx's end.

I believe Apple lists the item as "shipped" when their assembler secures S&H with FedEx. That is to say, they buy the postage to ship, but they don't actually give the item to FedEx. So in my case, though Apple listed my ship date as the 19th, FedEx kept updating their ship date as they waited for a box that they could stick on a plane.

My ship date with FedEx is now listed as today (26th) though Apple lists it as the 19th, and for the first time my tracking page lists something other than "Package data transmitted." Apparently the item is currently "At Local FedEx facility." So am I to take it that this thing finally out of Apple's hands?

It doesn't make a difference in the end--it'll get here when it gets here--but it would be nice to know what in the hell's going on now and then. I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to call and give them a good ol' American consumer earful.

Call them up,... both of them! My mom called FedEx for me and the person was able to read information that wasn't on the tracking site yet, they told us exactly where it is, where it's going, and a good estimated delivery date. It turned out my iMac was on a plane to Alaska and not still sitting in China as the tracking site showed.

Then I called Apple and complained about my 2-3 day shipping, they said that because it was a custom order it effected the shipping somehow and the shipping would be 3-5 days. I told them that the iMac was ordered on the 16th apparently built with my add-ons and shipped on the 23rd. They still claimed that my payment invoice says 3-5 days but, they'll make a special exception for me(...yeah....right...) and I got my $33 2-3 day shipping charge refunded.

It doesn't hurt to call the shipping company or Apple to complain. I say you do it, for FedEx I got to know exactly where my iMac is and where it's headed, and for Apple I got my shipping charges cleared. If I were you I'd call them and find out what's going on. I'm sure glad I did :D

Shipped today!!!

How cool is this? I called Macmall yesterday about the status of my new Intel 20 inch Imac. My "senior sales assistant" (Cindy) told me that my Imac was still in production. I'd ordered with 1 Gig of RAM and 256 MB of VRAM, a special order. Well I just checked the status a moment ago (for the millionth time) and that "Backordered" tag has been replaced with "Shipped" on 1/26/06. I chose the cheap method of delivery - UPS Ground, so I know I won't get it in time for the weekend. But I'm certain to get it next week!!! Cannot wait to test this new machine and see how it performs next to my G4 Desktop. I'm :) now!

I ordered the 20" iMac with 1 gb Ram, 500 gb HD and 256mb video on the 14th through the Apple Education Store and got an estimated delivery of 14 Feb. How is it you guys are getting better response times?

John Lewis (Nottingham) got two 17" Intel iMacs today. One went straight out onto display, with one left for sale and we can get hold of more within a few days for interested customers.

So for all interested UK members looking to get one, ring your local John Lewis and you may find they have a few 17" models. 20" models are a different matter however.

At last!

My iMac has left China, and just left Alaska! It's on it's way home! Whoopie! :D

Using this for a couple weeks has just made me want a MBP. It'd be quite hard to give up my Thinkpad though, they're great computers.

It's the 500GB hard drive. I added that originally, too, but it makes your order 3 - 4 weeks instead of 3 - 5 days. If you want it faster, I recommend going with the 250GB. You can always get a cheap ($340 or so) 500GB elsewhere, and stick the 250GB in an external enclosure. 750GB for only a bit more than Apple wants! And your computer 3 weeks earlier!

I know what you mean.

It's painful to go back and use my G4 now that I have the Core Duo.

And it will be even more speedier when I pop in another 1GB stick from Crucial Tomorrow.

A subtle difference...

Well, although the startup sound hasn't changed, I have noticed a difference: It is always played through the internal speakers of my iMac, even though it is hooked up to my stereo. Shortly after the boot sound, I can hear my stereo speakers being activated (that typical pop sound). Then all audio is outputted to my speakers. Not really horrible (or incredibly interesting either), but it does remove the possible of muting the startup sound via a cable. Since I won't be bringing my 20" to class anyway though, that may not be a problem :p Anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I thought I had woke up the entire house last night. :(

Quite annoying IMHO. :)
