I'm probably going to order a 17" when they become available (early February, apparently). That'll involve selling my current 17" 2 GHz on an auction site then buying the new system with the money.

Update time: I have ordered the 17" and I'm expecting it to arrive on Wednesday.

I ordered a stock 17" iMac yesterday. The stupid thing is they (local shop) have it in stock, but my boss wants to pay by money transfer so it'll probably take until next Wednesday before I can pick it up. Ah well, such is life.

I'm also going to get some extra memory for it (1GB sounds nice), but that's not urgent. Until I actually use it, probably :)

So okay.. here's my update.. :D
I ordered mine in the 22nd, FedEx got billing Data on the 25th (On the website it had estimated the 31) and it was at the Destination Facility in Shanghi on the 26th..

MAN I Can wait.. I have used A form of Windows since I started in Computers.. and until now, I didn't really want to move to mac..

Granted I didn't say I liked windows, at first I did, but more recently.. Bahh..

So.. I'm all stoked about getting the mac.. and I wish it would show up.. I was almost willing to drive 6 hours to go to a Store to get one, but none of the stores could do my 2 Gig and 256 VRam upgrades...

Buuuuuut.. I'm waiting.. might have to take a day of vacation sometime next week!! :)

Or work from home, yeah that' sthe ticket..

Well my TNT status page still says...

25 Jan 2006 16:00 Pudong International Airport Potential Linehaul Delay Due To Technical Problems
25 Jan 2006 09:08 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot
24 Jan 2006 12:19 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

However, I called TNT and gave them the tracking number and they said they know nothing about it and haven't received it yet. I then called Apple and they said it's on it's way and will arrive with me in the UK by the 31st. They claim that the TNT page won't update until the package arrives in Europe.

I doubt it will get here by the 31st but we'll see.

Well, although the startup sound hasn't changed, I have noticed a difference: It is always played through the internal speakers of my iMac, even though it is hooked up to my stereo. Shortly after the boot sound, I can hear my stereo speakers being activated (that typical pop sound). Then all audio is outputted to my speakers. Not really horrible (or incredibly interesting either), but it does remove the possible of muting the startup sound via a cable. Since I won't be bringing my 20" to class anyway though, that may not be a problem :p Anyone else experienced this?
This has been like this for at least a year. We had external speakers hooked up to our 20" iMac G5 and PowerMac and they always played through there instead, (identifiable by the deeper bass from the Apple sound). I couldn't possible tell you when this change occured, but I have the database of all Apple hardware and the Macs all demonstarte their startup and shutdown sounds. perhaps when they last changed the sound, or went G5 they changed the boot sound proceedure.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to tell you guys this earlier, but I forgot.

Delocalizer works on the Intel Macs, under Rosetta. I didn't do a clean install and remove the languages, so I used my old copy of Delocalizer. It took about 20 minutes, but it cleaned out 3000+ MB (over 3 gigs). Nice. I always recommend it, if you don't do a custom install and still have all the other language files on your system.

mine's finally here but he brought a friend with him. the fed ex lady dropped 2 off. So yeah...if there's a John from lewisville here waiting for his 20 inch iMac, it's at my house. I'm about to call fedex to get them to come back.

but yay for mine being here!

Well as an update, FedEX updated thier page with an "Estimated" Delivery Date:

Sep. 31st at 10:30 am (nice a time, now I know what time to be home)

But the site still shows it in Shanghi.. :D On the edge of my seat waiting..

My Intel Imac

Yesterday I checked the status of the 20 inch 2 GHz Intel Imac I'd ordered through MacMall and was happy to learn that it had finally shipped. I ordered my Imac w/ 1 Gb of memory and 256 MG of VRAM, a special order on Jan. 16th. I shipped UPS Ground, the cheap rate. Well this morning before leaving for work I checked the status again and to my surprise I find that according to UPS my package was picked up in Memphis, TN., and has a scheduled delivery date of TODAY. I checked once again at lunch and UPS shows it in Birmingham and "OUT FOR DELIVERY"! So I'm at home now on the look out for that big brown truck. COOL! What can brown do for me? Hurry and deliver my new Imac!

Looks like my iMac has reached Europe. Previous Apple stuff has arrived in the UK the next working day after it gets to Arnhem so it looks like it will be here on Monday or Tuesday. Cool.

My experience of previous orders tells me if it's in Arnhem you'll have it tomorrow morning - I always haven mine within 1 working day of arriving at Arnhem...although I'm very near E. Midlands Airport where they fly UK orders too (all of them? - I'm not sure)

Hi, where exactly are you getting your tracking info from? The link on the Apple dispatch confirmation or elsewhere?

Put the number that starts with 8 into the TNT website at http://www.tnt.com/country/en_gb.html.

Alternatively, go to the Apecode website and put it in there then when it takes you to the K&N screen just click the blue link. http://www.apecode.com/appletrack/

The TNT way doesn't work for me. Is this because it hasn't reached Europe? I think my iMac is still lingering in Shanghai. The latest information I get from K+N is something along the lines of 'a plane has been booked'! I should hope so!

While I'm here, can someone please reassure me that 128MB VRAM will be enough to run both the 20" iMac display along with a 19" Dell-boy display? I'm not into games.

Yes, the 128 video card will handle that easily.

Damn! I was all happy when Apple shipped my iMac out a week early, but it's been sitting in a FedEx facility in Shanghai for three days! And now that it's been "picked up", they moved the arrival date back three days as well!

I wanna call and complain, but I guess since I didn't pay for expedited shipping, AND since it'll still be sooner than the original Apple estimate...Still! I want my iMac! I have the printer already, and the extra RAM from datamem.com...

It's a Mac!

I would like to happily announce the delivery of my iMac Core Duo.
Delivered today, January 26, 2006 at 8:45 AM
Weight: 22 pounds
Size: 20 inches

Owner and computer are doing fine.
Okay that is too funny!

We picked ours up at FedEx on the way into work today. So it is sitting by my desk, it its unopened box, taunting me. Hopefully I will get out of here a little early so I can take her home and free her from her box.

I Got It!!!

Call FedEx, and when you get to the automated menu press 0, this will bring you to a live person (after you answer a few questions) and the peron will give you MUCH better information than the web site. This is what I did and I couldn't be happier.

I just got my iMac, I'm on it now! Yay! I installed Muskin DDR2 Notebook Memory from Newegg.com (2x1GB) in my iMac and it runs great! I couldn't be happier, this is the best! I love it! I'm now off to install applications and test out with Rosetta :):D!!

After reading all these posts, I guess I should be grateful that my iMac only has to come from Hamilton (2 1/2 hour drive).

I wish I'd ordered it on Thursday, then I could've received it yesterday (Friday). But no, I ordered it after 5:00 on Friday, so they won't send it out until Tuesday (Monday is a holiday) and I won't get it until Wednesday :(

I thought the iMac used DDR2 667 RAM? That's 533 you linked to?
