Check it every day!

Apple listed my iMac for delivery on 1/25, Fedex posted estimated delivery as 1/27 on their website; the computer actually arrived ahead of schedule on 1/24.

Also, not to scare you, but FedEx actually left the iMac on the front porch (supposedly signature release on file!)

Yeah my father in law gets lots of packages here (we bought his house) so they still have a Sig Release here too.. I plan on being home when I See it getting close tho.. *cough cough* I'm not feeling to welll..

Todd: Happy DAy!! let us know man! if yours one monday, you had a day head start.. hopefully mine by wednesday..

Yours took the exact same route as mine did, and also was shipped and delivered on the same day as yours.

Never go by FedEx's delivery dates, they just do that to cover themselves. But I called them and said "I went to the Transit times and put in from China to my Address, and it said 2 days in Transit".

They said I was right and they were showing the 24th for a delivery in there systems the whole time, just not on the website.

What normally happens to me everytime I order a Computer from the Actual Apple Store (not a reseller) it's usually delivered on the day it was estimated to Ship out. The iMac was suppose to ship on 1/24 but was delivered on 1/24.

my new iMac!

just wanted to share a couple photos of my brand new system, which I have fallen even more in love with than my previous iMac G4. Enjoy!

You just reminded me that I need to order a 1 GB module - and Crucial is out of stock!

OK, in my desperation I did something I swore I'd never do - I bought Apple memory!

$330 (USD200) later...

I picked up a 1gb upgrade from OWC/macsales.com. Prices and shipping are reasonable and it looks like they still have in stock. I had a good experience, so I would recommend them.

Running 1.5gb (non-dual channel)--it's all good...

Gah, I never thought to look there! I've bought from them in the past and had a good experience, but they totally slipped my mind this time around :(

Still Stuck In Shanghi

Ordered mine- 20 inch with upgraded video card and 2 gigs of ram plus wireless English keyboard and mouse.:) I confess that Apple's shipping policy and what constitutes 3 day service confuses me! It's has been sitting in Shanghi since the 26th. I wonder what effect the Chinese New Year celebration has had on shipping- or whether it's just Apple's "creative" approach to date management that's the problem. Anyone else's iMac stuck for these past few days?

OK — set my friend's one (17" Intel iMac with 512mb RAM) up yesterday.

Whisper-quiet. FrontRow is nifty.

Installed CS2 and Office 2004 (both bought on edu discounts as she is a full-time design student).

Office 2004: (well Word really) runs perfectly adequately, in fact it felt a damn sight more snappy than my dual 1.42 PowerMac with 2gb RAM. Didn't mess with Excel as it's not really my thing so can't comment there.

Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator CS2: Felt like somewhere between a 733mhz QS and a dual 833 — or thereabouts, and depending on what you were doing — G4 PowerMac. Perfectly usable for a student.

And if anyone claims that the iMacs displays are identical to the ACDs then either they're wildly exaggerating or the ACDs are wildly overpriced.

Viewing a plain grey desktop from about 8 feet away, it was obvious that there was an inconsistent illumination across the screen with a slight soft band across the middle. Not noticeable at close (working) range or when watching a movie but there nonetheless.

In fact, her biggest disappointment was with the bundled games. The backgammon is absurdly weak. :)

So in summary, forget the benchmarks. Look at the entire package and I think it represents superb value. Was even slightly jealous...

But doesn't signature release depend on the shipper and not the recipient?
Doesn't Apple want to make sure that the computer was handed directly to a person and not just sat down in front of the door?
So in my case Apple must have allowed delivery without signature; for a > $2000 item???

Can't Wait

I can hardly contain myself after the grief I went through to get it ;)

losing patience....

Originally ordered my first ever Mac just hours after keynote. Had delivery changed from 3 days to 24th and then to 16th Feb. As the problem was with the HDD upgrade I cancelled the original order and then used the saving on the HDD to upgrade RAM to 2GB and Video card with an shipping date of 1st Feb.

Anyone else still waiting after ordering on the release date, or am I just unlucky??!!

How long approx for shipping to UK?

Do we think that Apple's shipping delays are due to supply constraints, or is it because of the high number of orders?
Thinksecret and Appleinsider seem to have opposing information. Labeling the 17-inch G5 iMac EOL seems to support the latter! Same source, though.
