yup.. that's the same drive I have... dammit

So what options do I have? Burning DVD-R DL is a must for me.. Can I replace it? If so, anyone know where to get one?

no, just b/c it can do +R, doesn't mean it can do -R. it's weird though, b/c most will do both, but it says it will do both

can you burn a regular music cd with yours?

Music? I didn't try that yet.. I was concentrating on dvd's....

I don't have any experience with dual layer DVD burning so please excuse my ignorance. Why do you have to use -R, why can't you just use +R DL media.

DVD+R DL is much more common. I thought the only DVD-R DL was the dual layer RAM disks. Jesus christ it's almost as bad as digital camera media, where you need a 52 in 1 reader just to make sure it's compatible

The pioneer A09 that I put into my Powermac can do -R DL and +R DL..

Anyone know if these drives can be replaced, and where would I be able to buy one?

So far so good. I've managed to network my new iMac with my XP box and can share files between the two. Now if only I could print from my Mac to my Windows XP USB printer I'd be all set. Just can't seem to get it to work even after reading a ton of help guides.

printing

yes this is a difficult part. Printing to a printer connected to another pc on the network. I haven't figured it out yet, hp 1012 printer on the network being shared. I never got it to work, but need to start the process trying again
:)

Well crap, here's me hoping it hit alaska by now, it hasn't..

CRAP

Why is this going so slow? I Wonder if it won't update till after it clears Customs in Alaska. If it left PH earl early this am, it should have hit somewhere by now.. unless the plane went down, then I'd be Pissed! :D Man I'm impatient

Make sure it's a compatible printer with both computers. You might want to try plugging it into the mac instead and turning on 'printer sharing' in the preferences and seeing if that's any easier.

You all are so lucky :) I ordered my imac 20" with Ati 256 memory at 15.1 and the estimated shipping time is 15.2 :p Still waiting...

btw. I live in Finland

So far mine's been great, but I'm still unable to get Flash to work in Safari. WTF? Other people say it works fine. I'm not sure what to do. I could use another browser but I really like Safari.

Ahh man.. another disappointing day.. obviously the computer is still travelling from Subic Bay to where it has to go.. :D Come on FEDEX.. let's get moving..

Just wanted to note - I ordered a 17" Core Duo iMac w/500gb hard drive on 1/11, it was scheduled to ship on 2/9 but shipped out this morning, strangely enough, by UPS Express and not the usual FedEx. So folks waiting on storage upgrade may be in store for earlier shipment.

Scheduled to arrive on Friday!

Man I wish they would have done UPS to here.. I always though UPS did better with International Shippments.. *shrugs* Mine is somewhere in limbo

Mine spent about a day and a half in Memphis. After the tour of Graceland it got back on the plane at 3:00 AM and should be headed to Canada next. According to the guy at FedEx I spoke to I might have it today if I am blessed with quick customs clearance otherwise tomorrow.

Shipping Exception

Hi. I'm new here...

I find it refreshing that I'm not the only one waiting impatiently for their new iMac. i ordered a 20'' intel Imac on Jan 25, but apparently nothing moves in China this time of the year except saki.

Has anyone have this on their Fedex tracking page?

Package received after FedEx cutoff:Shipping Exception...

WTF is a shipping exception!!!

New scheduled deliver changed from Feb 1 to feb 8...

Do I blame Apple or FedEx?

I remember when I ordered the my first mac. A 12" G4 Powerbook
....ahhhh good times. I remember that I also waited over a month to get my hands on it, and even then I had to down grade my order from a superdrive model to a combodrive model.

I wish my machine would come or someone would put me out of my misery.

welcome iSack.. well mine said "Recieved after Cutoff" but I didn't have exception.. that would be a FEDEX issue I would think..

Mines been MIA for over 24 hour Shanghi (+12 hrs) time.. hrmm I hope it decides to show it self soon

This is my new baby.

My old PC's PSU burnt out on a Tuesday night in January, taking the motherboard with it. I'd been vaguelly intending on replacing it this year anyway (it would've been 3 in August) and my girlfriend and best mate are both Mac users, so had been evangelising. The Monday before my PSU went was Jobs' keynote speech, so it seemed obvious... I did a couple of days research, and opted for a standard set-up 17" - my dayjob is in a film library, but I'm also a freelance music writer, so need fast net connectivity, music and word processing, so it seemed perfect.

I ordered it on the Monday morning after my PC died, and it arrived 9 days later on the Wednesday. With a crack in the screen. We rang customer service (well, my girlfriend did - she's good at that) at 8am the next day and they arranged a courier to pick it up, and a replacement iMac. At 9.30am my girlfriend ordered herself one, having sold her Mac Mini in a fit of jealousy.

Her iMac arrived 26 hours after she ordered it - my replacement still isn't here (should arrive tomorrow, one week after being arranged, with luck). She gave me hers because she felt guilty!

The desk and Creatures are brand new too - I felt the iMac deserved to be treated well...

I'm really enjoying using it thus far - my girlfriend had two installs left of her Office 2004 student suite so I've used one of them, and about the only problem I've had transferring from PC to Mac (apart from my dodgy wireless network at home, which is another matter altogether) is getting used to " and @ being swapped, and there being no "home" or "end" keys.

Feb. 11 is the magic date, when my paycheck clears and ill be purchasing mine. Anyone here from ohio who ordered one? how long did it take to arrive?
