My old PC's PSU burnt out on a Tuesday night in January, taking the motherboard with it. I'd been vaguelly intending on replacing it this year anyway (it would've been 3 in August) and my girlfriend and best mate are both Mac users, so had been evangelising. The Monday before my PSU went was Jobs' keynote speech, so it seemed obvious... I did a couple of days research, and opted for a standard set-up 17" - my dayjob is in a film library, but I'm also a freelance music writer, so need fast net connectivity, music and word processing, so it seemed perfect.

I ordered it on the Monday morning after my PC died, and it arrived 9 days later on the Wednesday. With a crack in the screen. We rang customer service (well, my girlfriend did - she's good at that) at 8am the next day and they arranged a courier to pick it up, and a replacement iMac. At 9.30am my girlfriend ordered herself one, having sold her Mac Mini in a fit of jealousy.

Her iMac arrived 26 hours after she ordered it - my replacement still isn't here (should arrive tomorrow, one week after being arranged, with luck). She gave me hers because she felt guilty!

The desk and Creatures are brand new too - I felt the iMac deserved to be treated well...

I'm really enjoying using it thus far - my girlfriend had two installs left of her Office 2004 student suite so I've used one of them, and about the only problem I've had transferring from PC to Mac (apart from my dodgy wireless network at home, which is another matter altogether) is getting used to " and @ being swapped, and there being no "home" or "end" keys.

Cool. Your girlfriend must be pretty nice :) Hope 'hers' arrives soon!

My unit shipped today, 2 weeks ahead of the estimated ship date! So they must have gotten their 500gb HD supply.

Doh!! I cancelled my order for 500GB HDD as I didn't want to wait for 4 weeks. But I'm still waiting for my new order (20" 2GB RAM / 256 vid RAM) to ship and it looks like that isn't going to make it's estimated ship date either!!!

Niiiice.. mine was shipped about 4 days before "estimated" ship.. however.... I swear it got lost.. no activity on it at all today..

I just wish it would get to the US, cause then I know how long it takes to get anywhere.. *sighs* oh well.. here's waiting until mondy:eek:

Sigh...

Has anyone tried using Macrodmedia Flash on the new mac? I almost started crying when I saw a post saying Macromedia Flash wouldn't work on the intel imac.

I heard somepeople are doing fine, others aren't while others just need to tick a option for running under rosetta or some such.. It's a few pages back in here I think.

Do you mean...like watching them, or using the App to create animations?
I hope that I can still use Flash Professional on the new toy.:)

I used Flash MX 2004 Pro under Rosetta and it ran pretty damn well, I also published Flash animations to the web and they play in Safari perfectly. It works fine for me, you shouldn't have any problems :D

My 20" Core Duo iMac w/ 2 GB RAM and 256 MB vRAM just got in. Out of the flippin blue, too: Apple took their time getting it to FedEX, and FedEx kept me in the dark the whole time. If I hadn't have called this morning to get an update, I'd have been at work and this thing would have been on my doorstep. My sympathies go out to those still waiting on iMacs that were supposed to have shipped long ago and are hung in Shanghai or Alaska.

Been installing apps since the arrival. Note for those of you that care: Flip4Mac won't install on intel Macs. Gives an error message about QT being out of date. No big deal, just thought I'd mention it as I hadn't seen anything about this.

Outside of a non-functioning USB extension port on the keyboard, everything's jake. Need to continue to test ports and hardware.

I've had activity monitor open since I've had it booted up to see how processes and CPU time is allocated. It's one of those obvious statements, but it's worth saying: this thing--especially when emulation is going--is THIRSTY for RAM. I've got an installer going and a Safari window open and I'm currently using as much as 0.8 GB of RAM. I'd think a stick of RAM would come in handy for about anybody that can afford it.

Congrats to all that got thiers!!!!

Now to use poor saps that haven't.. it's coming.. :D

Keep up updated about problems.. I'll be thta more ready when I boot..

Was home for lunch on the off chance that FedEx wasn't updating.. but didn't get nuffin :) course fed ex stops at our house 3 times a day, as I said before, my father in law is a GE Repairman and he gets LOTS of packages

It looks like I've become a full-blown Mac addict because I'm sitting here ready to go home to play with my new iMac some more. Adios Windows. Never knew what I was missing all these years. :)

AMEN Jack..

I'm cursing at the smae people here.. FedEX and Apple for using freaking china do the assembly and shipping

WHOHOO!! After spouting here, I went and checked FedEx..

They should happen at the same time.. I think I saw it on the Apple Site before I got the email.. :D So I dunno if they batch up those emails or not.

Looks like yours is in the same shipment as mine - wonder how long it takes from there.

Hissss

I called Apple, and asked them if they were planning on refunding the money I paid for expidited shipping. The nice man on the phone said ''yup" and said it would be credited to my card in 3 or 4 days.

I'm now thinking that maybe i shouldn't have done that. What if they cancel the FedEx shipping, and send it to Purolator. It maybe March before my mac is here.

I'm never ordering a computer online again! The waiting is what kills me.

Artful Dodger
12:45 mine got here 2GB RAM and I'm all set. No dead pixels, quiet as my 17" was and I'm thankful for that, big and has everything I need

Or so I thought...went to play a movie tonight, dead, the SD is now dead on me
Dog eat dog world and I must have meat rub all over me! I can't believe this is happening as the rest of it is perfect :D
The Apple tech is having me bring this back to the local Apple store in the am...the irony is that's the store that I had all the trouble with to start, so they shipped me one  only to hang head and return...
