i live in northern idaho...so hopefully that will shorten the trip up a bit.:D

There were some posts earlier in here regarding speakers.......... I have a question...

I just got my soundsticks2... When I connect it to the back of the iMac, it doesn't go all the way... The metallic part sticks out a little bit.... The same thing with my Altec Lansing (which are now for sale :D )....

Is this normal?

Also, when I had the Altec Lansing connected to my powermac, if I were to have the volume to 1 little dot, I would be able to hear the music and/or any system beeps/alerts.... But now, I have to turn the volume on my iMac a little more than half to have "low" volume...

Anyone else?

Mine was in Alaska on the 31st, and the expected date was the 6th of February, when to my surprise it arrived the very next day in the AM (and I'm in the Boston area)!! It's a great, quiet, elegant computer, that's a joy to use. Been playing around with Front Row and Photo Booth. Love it.

Another fellow Bostonian! Yea, once the thing is out of Alaska it usually moves pretty fast. It either goes to Memphis then to Logan or in your case to Indianapolis.

Enjoy your new iMac!

Where exactly in the Cambridge area do you reside? that's about 10 minutes from me (Charlestown)

For all of those people who's iMacs got "off loaded" in china with mine, any new news? Mine still says the off loaded delay thing.

As much as I like the Soundsticks II, I must say that I think they should go a bit louder.

Nevertheless, I have found that you really have to plug it into the iMac pretty hard. There are a couple places it feels plugged in, but then it goes a bit more. Probably what you describe is normal though, for as I say, I wish the Soundstick IIs were a bit louder. I'll probably get something else, someday. I really like those Altec Lansings that much the cinema displays.

Well, I'm pretty sure everyone knows this, but just in case:

You can always use your Apple remote, to change volume on your Mac. Furthermore, if iTunes is open, you can always use it to pause, play, and go back/forth between tracks. You can even leave iTunes playing if you go into a game or whatnot, and then use your Apple Remote, while away from the desktop, to skip a song, pause, whatever.

I think it is pretty obvious it has this capability, but I just thought I'd point out that I find the remote even more useful this way than actually inside Front Row. :)

You can also use it for your IR-enabled iPod dock! I hope my iMac leaves the Philippines soon:(

Looks like my iMac is making fast progress, what the chances of it making it to Portland, OR by tomorrow evening........10%?

I paid for express shipping, does anyone know if they deliver on Saturdays?

Just have to wait and see.......:)

Yep same here, I think it's because it's a double socket.. Line Out & Optical Out.. I use mine connected to a Toslink SPDIF cable attached to a 5.1 system and it works a treat.. However volume control on the mac doesn't work with optical output which is a bit fecked up... Having to use another remote rather than the keyboard or remote supplied is a pain in the harris...

Well, my 17" iMac just arrived. That is to say, I went to the store and took it home after they let me know my payment had cleared :)

I must say, I'm more impressed than I had expected. I don't even really notice the big white area under the screen. All in all a nice computer.

I'm not sure if I should add more memory. It's supposed to be mainly a testing machine and my boss wants it to have "the standard amount of ram", that being what most people have. Only problem is I haven't been able to figure out if that's 512MB or more :)

Anyway, it's better than the iBook used to have (could never get used to the keyboard) and faster than the Cube. And no dead pixels yet! (crossing fingers etc)

The only thing I really don't like is the mighty mouse. The shape is wrong and the scrollball too small. It's a good thing I have no shortage of mice.

No nothing. I sent them an e-mail yesterday but as expected no response.

I wish people would give the Mighty Mouse a week or two, to grow on them. When I got it, I thought "ah ok this is awkward." However, I love it now. Favorite mouse.

As for memory, I guess if you're testing to see how applications work, for the normal customer it might be a good idea to keep it at 512MB. However, I must tell you I found the machine pretty slow, with 512MB. It really is a world of difference, when you add any amount of memory to it.

So far it just seems too low for me, I can't rest my hand on it.

I'm starting to notice that it's not quite as snappy as I first thought :)

Getting closer...:)

That's really interesting. I'm from the Philippines and I didn't know that Macs go through our country before getting shipped somewhere else. The Intel iMacs aren't even available in our Apple stores and authorized resellers yet. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait a bit more.

It seemed pretty fast with 512 mb ram to me as well. Then I installed another 1 gb of memory and loaded Office 2004. What a difference in loading times! Non-Intel optimized stuff definitely benefits from the extra ram.

NO iMac today. I'm very upset, it's STILL sitting in the phillipines - I will have to keep going to the library every night. This is ridiculous.
