I don't want to put out another $130, for 512MB more right now. Although this is really the time where it would come into good use. As my applications move to universal binaries, less will be required.
The 1.5 GB does seem speedier than the 1GB. However, when Toast is multiplexing or writing, it still prevents me from doing just about anything on the system. Very strange. It must be Rosetta and Toast are very intensive. However, Toast shows its only using 600 MB of memory and 150 percent of the hard drive, so I don't understand why the entire system comes to a stop while its multiplexing. When I'm doing H264 encoding in handbrake, 160-170 percent of CPU is at use, and things like web browsing, email, itunes, iphoto stay at full speed. Toast and Rosetta must be the combination that makes some serious performance cuts. Again, it does the toasting fine, but brings everything else down.
