Well, after a week of use, I'm in love with my iMac. I finished my review and published it on my blog. If you're interested click on my homepage listed under my profile. I still haven't added any pictures but now that the majority of the review has been published I'll try to get around to it.

08 Feb 2006 10:47 Amsterdam Consignment Received At Transit Point

I'm getting excited now!

Mines here :D

Arrived Amsterdam on 6th, delivered this morning in Glasgow. You should be good for Friday, as TNT told me on the phone it was for Friday delivery and it arrived early.
East to set-up and get online, im officially in Mac land now :)

My PowerBook arrived in Amsterdam for about 10am, then got to me the next day before 12. I've got my toes and fingers crossed ;)

Did your tracking show anything after Amsterdam? I've got Standsted Airport not that far away from here, so I could be in luck.

Mine went from Amsterdam 6th to Northampton 7th to Glasgow 8th , if yours is in Standsted today it might even arrive tomorrow.

Good luck, they seem to be great machines ! :)

Thanks.

It's not at Stansted, I was just assuming it would be the airport it was taken to. However, Northampton is only 80 miles away, so I'll sit there impatiently waiting for it!

i received my iMac yesterday 2/07/08 :) :) it was ordered on 1/25/2006
its a 20" 2GHz intel core duo with 1Gig of RAM. everything looks good and works great the usb on the keyboard doesnt work but who cares there is enough usb/firewire in the back :)

im a first time mac owner and pretty happy with the change this thing is replacing my p4 vaio laptop running xp - sometimes i use linux- my first impression is everything works great and it has the speed to do everything i need... im a programmer and a pro photographer so i'll use this machine for getting things done... installed Xcode development tools in just a few min. wow compare that to installing visual studio on xp for hours and a few reboots.... the IDE is just great and had no prob writing some code and get it working... ive been reading about Xgrid sure like to play with that... havnt installed photoshop yet i know its a rosetta app for now and wont perform to the max,,, in photoshop i do run a lot of actions for hundreds of photos that usually takes 30-40 min on the vaio and during that time u cant use the pc so ill be interested to see how the iMac intel core duo compares to the p4 vaio and see how responsive it will be under a big job like that... on the fun side GarageBand is cool,,,

Its OFFICIAL......

Okey everyone.....I bit the bullet.......I BOUGHT A iMAC 17" Core Duo. BUT BUT BUT.....whats even MORE exciting............ITS MY FIRST MAC !!!!!!!!!! Thats right, you have another convert, I have seen the light, now if I can only get my damn computer then I'll be a REAL Happy boy. :) YEAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA go me. :D

You'll have to let us know when you 'Finnish' it :p

Worst joke EVER!!!

Someone with a core duo wanna help me out?

One of the main reason I'm interested in getting a new mac is so that I can use a program called PTMac to create some QT VR panoramics.

It'll be a year before a UB version of PTMac is released and I don't want to buy an intel if this program runs slow and is a pain to use (yes, its that important to me).

Would someone mind downloading it, playing around with it and maybe giving me their impressions on it? Sluggish, no latency, quick as a button! What-have-you.

The link is Kekus.

If anyone has some free time, I'd appreciate it. Responses can be sent via PM or email.

And I thought Finnish jokes about that were bad enough :D But of course I'll let you know, it'll make everyone curious enough to take a crash course in the mystic language of the Finns

Pff, mailed the store I ordered the comp from, first units "should arrive within two weeks" so I guess I'll be watching Pirates of the Silicon Valley until then. And getting my iPod sent in for warranty.

Bit strange, but ok. Northampton is only 80 miles away. If I don't see any sign of "out for delivery" in the next few hours, I'm going to collect it.

50 miles away! Surely it'll get here today

No, unlucky...but I doubt you will. My replacement is still in a factory though so count yourself lucky!

Today I'm going to upgrade, from 1GB (2x512 sticks) to 1.5 GB. I'm returning the 512 stick I bought. I thought 1GB would be enough, and it probably is. However, when using Rosetta, I can tell that a little more memory would be nice. Using Toast, during multiplexing, it pretty much locks up the system (the toast work goes fine but I can't do anything else). I think 1.5 GB total will help.

Might as well go with the full 2 gigs... I don't see that much lag... Even though I started off with 2 gigs...

lol, i live in northampton :D mine came on the 8th, 2 days before tnt said it would be.

I ordered my 20" iMac Core Duo this evening - with 1gb of RAM and 256mb VRAM as BTO options, which gave it a 6 day ship time.
Only thing was, I added a Mini DVI to DVI adaptor to the order, which has a 3 week ship time, which has bumped my entire order up to March 3rd dispath :(
It won't let me cancel part of the order or even all of it online - says I need to phone them up.

I don't want to put out another $130, for 512MB more right now. Although this is really the time where it would come into good use. As my applications move to universal binaries, less will be required.

The 1.5 GB does seem speedier than the 1GB. However, when Toast is multiplexing or writing, it still prevents me from doing just about anything on the system. Very strange. It must be Rosetta and Toast are very intensive. However, Toast shows its only using 600 MB of memory and 150 percent of the hard drive, so I don't understand why the entire system comes to a stop while its multiplexing. When I'm doing H264 encoding in handbrake, 160-170 percent of CPU is at use, and things like web browsing, email, itunes, iphoto stay at full speed. Toast and Rosetta must be the combination that makes some serious performance cuts. Again, it does the toasting fine, but brings everything else down.

that is strange.... Toast doesn't make my other apps lag... I'm using 7.0.2...

Just placed the order yesterday - unfortunately after cutoff.
17" full stock (in a rush to get it here before the 19th)
Too bad it isn't for me:( it's for my mom, but with my student discount:D
All the same i will get to babysit, (read play with), it for a few days when it gets here.
Anybody know how long it takes from cali to calgary canada? ( I got it expedited)

Also I did find some ram locally... would using ram with a higher latency be bad:rolleyes: ? all other ram specs the same... I just may want to add some it it feels sluggish with the 512.
