I'm surprised no one has done the "iTunes visualizer" test on these new iMacs yet. That used to be one of our only benchmarks back in the 10.2 days :) I know its not very accurate, but i'm wondering what kind of FPS these babies get.

Not sure what the visualizer test is but just ran

iTunes playing Jesse Marlin : Going Out West Full Screen Visualizer 62-64 FPS...

Windowed mode changes depending on the size of the window...

Now, that all important question: good place to buy RAM from that deliver to the UK? I've heard Macsales.com does international delivery for a nice price. Anyone more local based?

Run the visualiser in iTunes window. Top right of window there is an options button. Uncheck the option to fix framerate at 30.

Hopefully you will now get 60's. :)

how

so, putting the itunes window on a second screen, and uncapping the FR, I get about 50, that is full 20" screen.

Strange that I cannot get the SECOND screen, where the itunes window it is to do FULL screen, it wants to blank out the main display as well. If I make the windwo a bit smaller say about 40% of the 20" external monitor, I am getting 55 or so FPS

A little off topic.. but its in response to someone who bought a g5 imac and returned it for a core duo.

I picked up a iMac G5 2.1 today at Apple Easton "refreshed" for $1195.

Woot.

Well I finally completely broke down. I originally ordered a MB Pro on the 10th of January then cancelled a week later due to reading more about it. I was now planning to reorder, but the delays are killing me. I just ordered a new iMac 20" Intel machine, and am now planning to get a new iBook with it when they are released in the next few months.

I came up with this strategy after examination of my current iBook G3 which has plenty of cracks and scratches in the white protective coat surrounding it, then I imagined those with an aluminum shell. The results scared me. So I went ahead and got the power I wanted in a desktop machine, and will be ordering the more durable laptop machine. :D

£77.43 here for a GB of RAM.

I forgot to say - My iMac arrived at 7.10am on Monday. :D

Thanks a lot! I went through their 'Apple -> iMac' solution to find the Intel iMac wasn't there. Just ordered it. 2GB, here we come. Plus, they use Royal Mail, so I'll get it before 8am ;)

LOL, I think we are twins!! I did the same thing, but I went for the 17 with a 20" display! :p

yeah,

yeah, it totally depends on the size of the window. Not really sure wha the diffs are between large, medium, etc. But, when I put it on large on my 20" intel mac, and have the thing in thhe middle of the screen about 35-40% of the screen covered, I am getting 57 or so. When I got to FULL screen, it drops down to 37 about.

so the size of the itunes windows, of course, is going to impact how many fps can be displayed.

Weird,
k

At fullscreen, uncapped, I get 80's uncapped

At maximum left to right space with a widescrren aspect of itunes, I get 30ish uncapped

When it is not in fullscreen, it looks so much better too

My windows machine..

No problem. Ordering some for me soon too.. Just as soon as I see the bank balance. ;)

Trust me, I too dream when the bank statements come through. Dream that they were different! ;)

Now I've just gotta be a good boy and wait for a new Intel 12-13" laptop and Mac Mini until I can get excited about buying anything else. As much as the PowerMacs are always going to be faster, I want minimalist and style.

Well, I finally did it. A long time PC user and I just plalced my order for my first Mac. I ordered the 20" iMac with 1GB of RAM and 256VRAM. It says that the estimated ship date is Feb 23rd and the delivery date is March 2nd. I am hoping that they can get it out sooner. I am really excited to be moving away from PCs and the continued headaches.

that is strange.... Toast doesn't make my other apps lag... I'm using 7.0.2...

I have the same version. I'll have to investigate then, for its very annoying.

I get 13 fullscreen (1280x960xMillions on a Power Mac B&W). I can't @#$%ing wait for this upgrade...
