I think the G5 booted waaay too slow, being incorrect.
I notice mine boots slower if I apply a bit patch or a set of updates; I wonder if that was the case.
For the Intel iMac; very impressing. Quite fast.
:)

I just ordered my 20" Intel iMac and I can't wait for it to get here. This will be a much needed upgrade from my PowerBook. I'm very glad I waited this long to upgrade, it sure paid off! :)

ugh, this is driving me nuts.... i called apple to issue an RMA for the iMac. But the woman on the phone issued one for the G5 iMac and not the intel.... back on the phone i go....

Word of Advice for all of you: Never order a CTO machine, to much of a hassle if returns are required!

This happened to me and it turned into a complete nightmare. In October I had ordered 3 iMacs and ended up returning all 3 for various reasons. There was a mix up with the returns and they ended up giving me the wrong RMA number to put on one of the boxes.

I got my money back for 2 of the machines within a week but it took literally around 15 phone calls, several emails and a fax before I finally got my money back for the 3rd machine on January the 6th!!! Over two months later. Stupid RMAs.

The Apple store in my hometown is holding a 17" model for me that I'll pick up in a little over an hour. Wish I wasn't so busy tonight and could play with it!

Sorry to hear that. I have never had a single problem returning a CTO machine.. Just luck of the draw I guess.

Looks like my iMac will take it's time coming here :( I also ordered the AppleCare and an iPod Dock too, they estimated shipping on the 18th and 19th for those but, last night the iPod Dock shiped from PA (I'm in NJ, so yay!) and the AppleCare's status is "Complete". So I'm hoping that the iMac will ship out too. All I added was iWork and the ATI VRAM Upgrade, I hope I get this soon, I simply just can't wait! I chose the 2-3 Day shipping on the whole order, it was something like $33 which isn't too bad, I just hope I didn't waste my money on the "extra fast" shipping...

Estimated Shipped By: Jan 24, 2006

IMAC 20/2.0/SD CTO
ATI Radeon X1600-256MB SDRAM
512MB 667 DDR2 SDRAM BUILT IN
250GB Serial ATA drive
SuperDrive 8X
iWork 06
Kybd, Mighty Mse & Mac OS X
Country Kit

Oh boy I can't wait for this iMac :D I'll try and boot to Windows via a CD, External HD, or anything else. I'm not afraid to try and get Windows to boot on the iMac, in-fact, if I do and it runs well I'll probably sell my PC ;)

Update: My iPod Dock has already left Newark, NJ! That was fast, it should come here in a day or so. I've never doubted Apple's shipping, usually the item arrives before it's supposed to, oh I hope it's the same with my iMac...that would make my day! :)

just got off the phone, got new labels. hopefully this is all straightened out now.

FedEx Sucks though, Ground Packages can't be picked up the same day, so i gotta wait till Tomorrow night.

Apple Said once I see pick up scan on the tracking number to call them, then they will release the hold on the new machine and it will be sent standard overnite

Don't worry. My First iMac was delivered 2 days before it was suppose to ship. It made it from China to Massachusetts in a day.

LimeiBook86, Mine was supposed to ship on Friday Jan. 20, but it actually shipped yesterday (Jan. 16) from China. It's scheduled to be delivered on Thursday.:D

This is my first post, and also my first Mac purchase.

I purchased an iMac last night and hope to get it early next week. I work with computers all the time, but have never used a mac (outside of the very first iMac that was built in the mid-90's).

I bought the 17-inch iMac and upgraded to 1X1GB memory. All of you macaholics should be happy to know that you have a knew "recruit" joining the group.

Hope for many years of mac excitement,

Drew

It's Here!

Ordered mine within an hour of the keynote..(New MAC user:)) and got notice it would ship on the 18th. Imagine my surprise when my neighbor just called me and said did I want him to sign for my new mac!!!!

Checked on my order status and sure enough it shipped out of SHanghai on Sunday wand was scheduled to arrive the 20th...

WooHoo!!! Racing from work now to check out my new MAC!!!

Therese

BTW - Mine was a CTO - 20" upped the VRAM, Gig Mem and went with applecare

so does that mean that if mine is supposed to be shipped on the 23rd, it could very well arrive at my door before then?? THat'd be pretty sweet, i'm getting sick of relying on computers at school. And i don't really know anything about FedEX. What happens if i'm not home when they come? I just moved into an appartment downtown, and can't really say I know my neighbours at all. Are there often drop off locations? I live in a big city.

That is probably why they cracked the damn thing. I feel sooooo sorry for berkleeboy210, I would be so pissed. I feel for you man!!:(

Well that iMac G5 was a lot slower then mine and I have a Rev. A 1.8Ghz. I timed mine and it takes about 40 seconds from the push of the button to being ready to use. I thought on the video the person said they were started before. Maybe I am wrong, but that G5 booted way too slow for some reason.

so what do you guys think about the review at ars (http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/imac-coreduo.ars/5)

Is it fair to compare the Intel Core Duo 1.83 to the Dual 2.5 G5? I am planning on looking at comparisions for the Core Duo 2ghz vs Dual Core 2ghz. Those would be closer, no?

From the little I have read so far, performance should be a wash between the 2Ghz models and my guess is the Intel will almost run with a 2.5Ghz Dual and probably not that far behind a 2.5Ghz Quad. The Intel has way more speed Mhz to Mhz so it should be able to keep up with the higher clocked G5's without a sweat.

One thing to keep in mind for people that are buying these new Intel computers is that Intel updates the speed of their chips all the time and I would not be suprised to see a nice speed bump by April or May. Apple will have to released upgrades much sooner then they used to. They have to compete with the PC's and you know how their specs change at any given moment.

Just sold my Rev. B iMac G5 and ordered the 20" Core Duo iMac! Shipping in 1-2 days.

So far, has everyone's iMac shipped from China via Fedex? It'll be a nice bonus if mine does since I saved $43 by using standard shipping.

Yea pretty much. Mine Shipped from China on a Saturday (the 14th), and was in MA on the Sunday (the 15th). I was shocked at how fast it made it here.

placed my order for the 20-inch iMac intel 2ghz standard w/edu discount. Should ship by Jan. 20 est!!

I <3 my setup. Everything looks and works great. I'll report back once I get some non-native apps installed as to the rosetta performance for a user such as myself (stuck somewhere between web browser and complete power user).
