Talked to Amazon about the return policy of the Kindle. Specifically asked what would happen if I used the coupons and returned it. She said that was allowed as Amazon stands by their Kindle and that it will convince me to keep it.

Ordered it last night around 6pm and it is now in my hands with next day shipping. Going to play around with it for a month and see if I like it.

Other than that, so happy to save $267 :)

As for returning the Kindle...

There have been other Kindle deals that were as good or better, depending on your shopping needs. They had a 20% code for HDTVs that was selling for $100+ on eBay. A week or two ago they had a 25% off code for digital cameras, with some of them in the $1000 range.

I'm keeping my Kindle just for future deals.

Keeping it for the coupons sounds like a smart idea. I may also keep it just as a vacation or car reader. I am a college student and I have no desire to use it in class. As of now, it takes me too long to find a specific page that a teacher mentions (It's the same as on my laptop but I can search a phrase faster due to having a higher wpm). I also would prefer a tablet over e-reader. However, since this is technically free and the coupon pays for the kindle already, I may keep it like I said. I do like the build and quality of it.

Placed my original MBA 13"/128 order last week... August 1st. I actually got the updated delivery estimate of August 11-August 13 which is NEXT WEEK!!

However, I decided to cancel it, went to local Bestbuy and purchase KSO (Kindle Special Offer) for about $122. Along with my Amazon Giftcard for about $35, I placed the second order for about $952.

I really have no use for this Kindle but I'll play with it for a month and see if I wanna keep it. Otherwise I'll just return it.

I have a Kindle and I absolutely LOVE it. I suggest those of you who bought one give it a try before returning it, it's really a joy to read on!

I used to have a Kindle 2 before and sold it. This one looks to have a much better refresh rate! I am quite surprised

Just got a new 13" MBA i5/128 for $987 after picking up a Kindle Special offers at Target. delivery estimate for Sept 1 -- hope it gets here earlier.

Thanks OP!:D

Just ordered a base 13". $987.99 out the door. Estimated delivery Aug 31-Sept 16, although I'm sure it will be much sooner.

The base 11" is no longer available for order. I don't know if that's permanent or it may come back.

UPS just delivered my 17" macbook pro. Its perfect, no dead pixels and runs great. Only problem is it came with lion pre-installed and there is no backup disks to restore to snow leopard ugghh.

Does the outer box contain the Lion artwork?

My friends brother has the Kindle with Special offers but he won't let give up the code. He's not planning to buy a laptop anytime soon. People on eBay won't end the auction early, they rather wait until the end than sell the code early & a little cheaper.

I'm really temped to go buy the kindle.

"But I waaaant it!!!" :p

Dang. I got a code from a friend but now the base 11" air is out.

Anyone know how frequently Amazon updates stock?

I had a previous MBA order (13/128/4) that was supposed to be delivered on Monday. I purchased a Kindle at BB and received the promo code. The person at Amazon was very helpful in getting the discount code applied ($240). This Kindle is going to my Mom for her birthday and I just paid $988 for a MBA that would have cost me $1412 at the Apple store. You just have got to love Amazon and no tax deals.

Seriously? What motivation would they have to end the auction early and get less money? They're guaranteed to get the current bid, and stand a high probability of getting more money if they wait until the auction ends.

If you're impatient, use one of the at least 40 Buy-It-Now auctions on ebay a minute ago, BIN prices starting as low as $39.

Just ordered MBA 13" base.

991 with next day air (whenever they get it in stock)

My old MBP is going to my younger brother, and kindle...I may use it occasionally...hehe

delivery estimate 8/30-9/15

Hopefully they get here before my break is over. :D

Thanks For The Heads-Up

I went to Target and purchased the $114 model. I received the discount code a few minutes ago.

It's too bad that this model does not have a way to adjust the screen contrast/brightness. I may be returning it because of the missing feature, but my wife and I will give it a try to see if it is a problem.

I was hoping that the Kindle could replace our iPad but the display may be a deal-killer for us...

e-ink doesn't emit light, so there's no brightness to adjust

I prefer the iPad myself for reading but if you want to read in sunlight then the Kindle is far superior.

Is there sales tax to NYC from amazon.

Yes.

Amazon charges tax in ND, WA, KS, KY, NY

You're pretty much screwed in NY for sales tax. There are only a couple of online retailers that don't charge it there. Newegg and ABT.com are the only ones I know of that don't. NY is extremely aggressive in this area so I'm not sure how those two avoid it.

There is no backlight on the Kindle which is why the battery life is weeks instead of mere hours. In the same way you need light to read a paperback novel, you also need light to read the Kindle.

The reason why Amazon sells Kindle leather case with LED Light is because you cannot adjust brightness from the screen. This is the advantage/disadvantage of e-ink. It is harder to read in dark place yet at the same time, it's a lot easier on your eyes because it does not emit light. It also provides superior quality reading under the sun.
