I just noticed my MBA has a stuck pixel... Can I take this into the apple store for a swap?

More than likely they will repair than replace. The couple of apple stores I went to seem to repair resellers. If you purchased from apple itself they replace.

----------

Why would he send it back to Amazon? Apple will gladly fix any issues he has with it for free.

Repair, yes... But not replace.

Apple retail will repair, not replace. There are 4-7 techs on hand at any given time. With a nice stock of parts on hand, if not on hand, shipped next day to the location. They might only replace if you $#$@# enough to them. But 99% of the time never do a one for one swap on a desktop or laptop...ipad, ipod, iphone. YES. Laptop.....good luck. Your one year limited warranty covers the faulty part, not one bad part equals new complete laptop....

how do I know....Im a friggen Apple tech...

Thank you!! Of course if it's a lemon then you might have a chance for a replacement?

Apple will replace ever single part 3 times before they hand over a new machine, Ive seen it happen many times. Also saw a 300lbs black lady (not to offend) she was bug eyes and cussing out a genius and the a manager, walked up to her. Took her macbook pro. Handed her a new boxed up , NEWER macbook pro and asked her to leave

Only time though. So if you want a new MBAir , better bring MADEA!

Awesome! I'm glad they'll repair and not swap since there is no need. Say goodbye to my noisy space bar and stuck pixel!

That's great customer service but I can't say she deserved it

space bar might get fixed.....doubt it if its just noisy.

Dead pixel....very doubtful.

Dead pixels are a odd subject. If its just a single pixel...no chance on a replacement.
Apples policy says a display can have up to 4 DEAD PIXLES and they will not replace it. If they are all clustered together then they will. If they all spaced out. THEN NOPE.........

there's nothing to be proud about. i'm simply just telling my story because someone had asked. of course, i am happy about getting a $1700 machine for <$1000, but i'm not bragging.

I hope you get a painful, venereal disease for which I will find a cure and withhold from you.

Not actually, but all joking aside, I had some pity and sympathy for your account being flagged until you came back and starting bragging about it. I can't sympathize with someone who claims to fear that their account will be banned, then change their tune after receiving their computer to declare that they don't care about their account now that they've got the MacBook.

You maybe be a young kid now who doesn't shop much on Amazon, but in 5, 10 years, you will really regret not having an account there.

Yeah it's only a single one, i'm pretty sure its a stuck pixel because it only shows up on white and green backgrounds.

If they don't replace it will Amazon? It's just really annoying to see this black/pink dot on a white page  I'm going to try to unstick in the meantime. The space bar isn't that much of an issue. I'm hoping that in combination they will warrant a repair.

Times like this I'm glad I'm well off enough that I don't have the inclination to pull stupid stunts like that. It's nice to save some money every once in awhile but if you need to harass, scam and cheat in order to afford stuff, get a freakin' job, or a better paying one.

Agreed.

It is funny though. Back when I was a teenager I was making $7 bucks an hour. Now I make 5 times that. And yet saving a few hundred still feels like a score no matter how well off you are.

exactly. saving money is saving money, doesn't matter if you can afford it or not. getting a good deal/beating the system always feels good.

It wouldn't be worth it for me to get a red flag on my account/accounts at my address but that depends on your priorities

I know internal memos have already been sent out to amazon from apple saying they can loose the right to sell any new apple product for the huge under cutting they are doing. All retailers have sell new apple products have to sign legal agreements saying they will not sell below the metric, which is cost. And amazon is selling well below cost. Distribution cost is usually 8-10% less than retail.
Amazon is already taking a month to get the laptop to you. That's because they are having a big problem getting them from a distribution center like Imgram or newertech. They can not buy them directly from apple. And apple at any time can tell it's distributors to stop selling to amazon. And that will end up in a lot of un happy buyers and a lot of refunds.

While the two words may rhyme, beating the system ≠ cheating the system.

One should never waste money -- that's why even the smartest billionaires are still "frugal" billionaires. You buy what you need/want, but should save money where possible.

Anyways, in your case, I would argue you didn't actually even save any money. You harassed CSRs for hours and hours, and at 20 min a CSR, 100 CSRs amounts to 2000 minutes, or about 33.33 hours. If you went to work for that time, at minimum wage you would've made ~$300. If you had my job (and I'm an undergrad), you'd have made about $1200. In economic terms, opportunity costs are equivalent to losses. Plus, there are other things that affect your happiness/utility such as the stress, mental effort, mindshare, harassment from users here, and the possibility of being banned from Amazon for life (again, I assure you it's not worth it to save $600... over time, your savings from being able to shop at Amazon will offset that many times over). There are diminishing returns on everything, including money. $600 may be a lot to you now, but when you grow up, it will be a drop in the bucket compared to what you will be making and spending. All for a computer that will be outdated in 2 years.

Enjoy your computer.

I think you may need to revisit reading comprehension. But anyways, hope it was worth it to you.

Anyways, just wanted to verify, I tried chat again today, and I had the credit applied in a few minutes. So, for non-"cheating garbage scumbag scammers", the deal may still be applicable.

True. You might get away with it once, but the second or third time around it might be a bit different. Porsche was notorious in the investment banking community for extracting the lowest financing terms on its debt for years, often through bullying techniques. It came back to bite them 2 years ago during the financial crisis when they missed a debt refinancing by about 24 hours. The banks, no surprise, took advantage of this. That's partly why they are now part of VW.

Finally, my 13" has shipped with a del date of Mon the 29th. Now, I need to decide on which MBA to keep; either my current 11" or the 13". Since I really like my 11", once the 13" arrived, I originally decided just to sell the 13". Now, I'm really curious how the 13" compares. So, I'm going to open it.

My 11" has the Samsung ssd and display (I don't care, but many do); I can't find anything wrong with it. That means it should sell easily. We'll see how the 13" fares... If it's imperfect (but still works well), I'll keep it and sell the 11". If it has the Samsung benefits and no real defects, it will sell easily. Then, I will have to make a decision. Either way, they are both great machines.

I get so much cool stuff from Amazon, including free video streaming (as Amazon Prime), free two day shipping (or $3.99 overnight shipping) and awesome deals on all sorts of stuff, from computer stuff to a quarterly shipment of roasted edamame sent to me automatically and cheaper than anywhere else (I love the stuff). For me to harass them to the point of being banned would be really bad. I've saved a LOT more than what the MBA is worth buying from them over the years, not to mention the OUTSTANDING customer service and hassle free returns policies.

Whatever floats your boat...

I'm in the same boat. I have retuned a lot of camera gear there (legitimate issues) and they never gave me grief. Some returns. Some exchanges. I initially got prime the first year to avoid store based Xmas shopping and now it's a justifiable yearly expense. Just on groceries and misc stuff I've saved more than the air. Hell even chlorine an pimp parts. Anything. And since I live in az I can get same day delivery. No way I want to lose my account over a couple hundred bucks.

I just read all of his authored posts, and seriously, this kid needs to be banned from even macrumors ASAP.

What he's doing is disgusting, unethical, and just downright pathetic.

Amazon keeps a log of every chat you have with CS reps. You're gonna have a REAL tough time weaseling your way out of this one. The also have the right to charge your credit card the full amount that you scammed them for, and I hope they end up doing that.

In a previous post, I mentioned some of this. Also, since this thread attracted a lot of newbies, his behavior is a bad example.

There's one thing to try to get a deal. However, this is an example of behavior detrimental to many.

One funny or sad part of it is that next year, Amazon may have a really good deal on the new air that everyone will want over the old 2011 model. Since he probably will be banned, he will be out of luck. I can picture him trying to beg a friend to order it for him...
