Anyone attempt a price match?

Now this is crazy:

For people with the Kindle Special Offers from Amazon, they released a 20% off coupon that works on all the new Macbook Airs and Macbook Pros.

If you already have one: just go to the site and use your code:
Kindle Special Offer: 20% Off Laptops

If you don't have one, you can order today and email Amazon customer service to send you the code.

See: Amazon.com: Kindle with Special Offers

Anyway, this is the best deal I have ever seen on a Mac, so check it out!:eek:

My Story...

Hi - 1st post (big tks to the OP:D)

Occasional lurker here but thought I would give a small lift to this thread given the abuse of some. I bought my first Mac because of this deal and took delivery of an 11/4/128 last Tuesday. I have been a long time win user looking for a window :rolleyes:of opportunity to switch over or at least run a VM. I stumbled upon this thread on the first day and almost couldn't believe what I was reading. I decided to buy a Kindle and sit on it for 30 days (given the large initial Amazon window for ordering) with the full intention of returning it. At the time I was also strongly considering a ThinkPad E220s which has very similar specs. When the game changed and both of my machines were removed from the list I got nervous and did the chat right away - it worked the first time  I was very respectful of the CSR and sent him glowing feedback and a separate email to his supervisor. However, I felt guilty right away as it became readily apparent that someone had dropped the ball at Amazon. I decided to upgrade to the free trial of prime for $79.99 hoping it would ease my conscience:confused:

Anyway, a funny thing has happened. I love my kindle and use it every day. Its been 2+ weeks since its first charge and I finally plugged it in this morning. Cool little device in a low-tech sort of way. Awesome for sunny days in the backyard or beach. I'm really enjoying my new MBA though. Its everything I thought it would be and has exceeded all my expectations. I would never have paid $1275 for a computer (w/tax) even though I could afford it. Its just in my DNA. So, yes I took advantage of a deal that was probably not meant for public consumption. Does that make me a bad person? Some days I wonder...

In the end Apple and Amazon have a new customer (have since purchased three things from Amazon and and a sleeve from the Apple Store) and I wouldn't hesitate to spread positive messages about either company. Does that justify my discount? I think it does but I may be just rationalizing:confused: bigtime.

Price Match

Anyone attempt a price match?

I went down to my local Apple Store to see if they would price match the deal, as I was out of the US for the weekend that they had the deal. :( I had a discussion with the manager and he basically said it must be something that everyone is entitled to and doesn't involve any extraneous events to occur in order to get the discount (i.e. buy a kindle, sign up for a credit card, etc). I was really excited because for a moment it sounded like they were going to do it, but unfortunately not.

I bought a code from EBay, but after thinking about it for a while, I decided not to use it. They've been so good to their customers, and it's dishonest. I guess I'll just end up waiting until Ivy Bridge. My 2010 MacBook Pro is still doing just fine.

Why would that make you a bad person. You are exactly their market.

Bought kindle to try and liked it. Check.

Decided to sign up for prime. Check.

You will be shocked how easy prime makes everything. I buy next to nothing locally because it's cheaper online and I get it in two days. I'd guess if you are frugal in the DNA you will see things and think hmmm I wonder how much that is on amazon with free shipping. I usually pay less than 75% of retail + tax on things. Spend 5 grand a year and that's some vacation money.

I also intended on retiming te kindle. Bit won't now.

I'm in the same boat. I have retuned a lot of camera gear there (legitimate issues) and they never gave me grief. Some returns. Some exchanges. I initially got prime the first year to avoid store based Xmas shopping and now it's a justifiable yearly expense. Just on groceries and misc stuff I've saved more than the air. Hell even chlorine an pimp parts. Anything. And since I live in az I can get same day delivery. No way I want to lose my account over a couple hundred bucks.

I had no idea that amazon sold chlorine tablets: it never occurred to me to look. Sweet! Too bad I just bought some from my pool store yesterday, but I'll certainly be saving in the future on pool stuff. :)

I buy tablets fromcostco too. However my Gemini cleaner has been rebuilt from amazon at 1/3 the cost.

I look for EVERYTHING there first. Sometimes things like chlorine come and go as far as amazon stocking but resellers are usually inexpensive and ground ship free or cheap!

Amazon iPhone app has a barcode scanner and you can save in cart. Fwiw.

Their cs is top flight and that's what annoys me when people abuse it.

Few more questions before I get my MBA:
Will my MDP->VGA adaptor work with the Air's ThunderBolt?

Is AirDrop the best way to selectively transfer files from my 17" Pro to the Air? What type of speeds should I expect?

Anyway to go until a medically induced coma until it gets here?:D

Yes your MDP-VGA adapter will work perfectly.
And the only way your going to transfer your data is via time machine back up (Which I would recommend) Or do a transfer over the same wifi network, which will put you into a coma.....
I do MBA transfers on a weekly basis and let me tell you, A time machine backup of the MBP then backed up on to the MBA would be the way to go.

I don't want to transfer all of my files to my MBA. I probably want to transfer about 10-20 gb of stuff, maybe less.

Do I need to get a kindle first... ??? good deal

About a month ago, yeah. :( But get one anyways, these deals come pretty frequently.

The also have the right to charge your credit card the full amount that you scammed them for, and I hope they end up doing that.

Indeed, that would be I think an appropriate action and teach him the meaning of karma.

still waiting on my 128/4gb/i5 to ship. i ordered 8/7 and it seems like after another talk with amazon CSR that it might still be a bit. getting reaaaaal frustrated and i need a computer for the office asap.

i did get the CSR to agree to ship me out an 11in model they have in stock now. My only real question is what is the performance difference between the 13in and 11in models. I am looking at 128gm storage and 4gb ram either way but the 1.6 vs. 1.7 processer. i am already pushing it a bit by moving from a MB pro to an air, so i want to make sure i dont really mess things up by going to an 11in model.

thoughts??? ahhhh i just want my computer!!

There is a fair amount of difference between the 1.7GHz chip in the 13" and the 1.6GHz chip in the 11". The 1.7GHz chip Turbo Boosts to 2.4GHz with both cores running, compared to 2.1GHz for the 1.6GHz chip. That's the biggest difference.

Interestingly, ASUS plans to offer the 1.7GHz Core i5 in the 11.6" UX21 (along with an i7, and some cheaper variants, including likely i3). For whatever reason, Apple did not, even though they put the same i7 in both the 11" and 13". I'm guessing it was to keep the price down and encourage upsells to the i7.

well, now my order just went from having an expected ship of Aug 30-Sept 28 to having no date at all. Not really sure what the story is but im super frustrated already.
