I thought you could use as many as you can as long as the kindle was tied to your amazon account. That's why I thought this was such a slamming deal and worth the wait. :apple:

Wow - you got a rep that didn't know what he was doing at all. That's pretty cool!

Did Amazon pay for return shipping? I didn't think that they did that for expensive items like laptops. I thought they reimbursed shipping costs afterward.

I can't speak for others, but I had to pay shipping fees back to Amazon as instructed by them in my 17" MBP exchange due to it arriving with 2 dents on its bottom. This occurred just last month. When printing out the return labels, there were no shipping labels & Amazon even requested that I fully insured the return package for the purchase price, which I stupidly did. I unwillingly paid $72.95 fully insured using UPS Ground to ship that 17" MBP back to Amazon & even though Amazon refunded some shipping fees, the amount refunded was only around $15. :( :( :( I learned a pricy lesson here, which is that the next time I ship anything back to Amazon, I'm not going to spend extras to purchase any kind of shipping insurance, if that full amount is not going to be refunded to me.

Something like that would usually cost around $25 insured via UPS ground, $75 is crazy.

I honestly don't know why it costs that much. Maybe I did something wrong? I looked through my UPS Store receipt over & over again & it clearly states $72.95. :( But I did insure my 17" MBP for its full purchase price, which I guess is the main reason for that monstrous amount UPS charges.

However, on 2nd thoughts, the amount may not have been out of line. I've sold a number of items & shipped out the packages to the buyer insuring the packages for the full sales amount of what they paid & I usually have to pay around $30 to $50 in shipping fees for those items, but I also requests that the packages are to be signed by the recipients in those cases, which probably add more costs to the eventual shipping fees. However, those items I sold are way less than a brand new 17" MBP, so I guess what UPS charges can be deemed "normal". I do find it interesting why Amazon didn't supply shipping labels for those high price items, just like they do for most of the lower price items. I mean they've gotten those exclusive huge company shipping accounts with shippers like UPS & Fedex that I would like to think that they will be able to pass on that shipping fees to us, even if they do not want to refund us the shipping fees for item returns. Maybe this is just their way to try to discourage customers from making purchase returns?

I had to pay for shipping, it was around 12$ at the post office. They give you an address label to print out along with an RMA form to put in the box. Once the return goes through they are supposed to credit that back to you. We will see how that part goes.

Interesting. Did you insure it?

I agree that it is interesting.

I've never previously heard of the post office providing an RMA form for us to fill out when shipping items for returns to online retailers. scenemissing, if you don't mind, I would also like to ask if that RMA form is exclusive to Amazon or is that generic?

The Amazon RMA slip is the only slip you need to put in the box.

Yep, I know that.

Looking through scenemissing's post again, I misread it to be that the post office provides us with an extra RMA form instead. My bad for reading his/her post too fast & misinterpreted what he/she was talking about. I guess my reading ability is without a doubt a big fail. :(

There's something wrong with your price for shipping. Mainly, I use FedEx. Their rates are comparable to UPS. Some months ago, I shipped my 15" mbp fully insured for $1300. Anything insured for over a certain amount automatically requires a direct signature. It cost me less than $30. for your mac, I don't know what you insured it for? Whatever it was, it shouldn't have increased the rate that much. Also, the additional weight of your 17" mbp would not result in that high of an increase.

Not sure what you mean - the web form? I logged into my Amazon account, went to that order, and there was a button to click to start the return process. When that was done, it let me print essentially an address label and a packing slip with the RMA number and the text I had typed in with what was wrong.

Back of the line for me!

My MBA 13" base developed backlighting issues (two faint white likes in the middle of the screen - noticeable only when screen is black, which is pretty much whenever I am watching a video).

My MBA is going back today. Since others are talking about the RMA process, for me, there was no option to print out a UPS label - however, it says something like "A UPS driver will pick up your item from where it was originally delivered. The driver will have a prepaid label."

I am now waiting for pickup.

Update - UPS brought a prepaid label and picked it up.

Yeah, I think something is wrong with my shipping fees. Unfortunately, I simply have no idea what it is. :( The following is the shipping receipt for the shipment of the MBP for anyone interested:

scenemissing, I totally misread your previous post like I mentioned earlier:

Interesting. I certainly do not have that option where the UPS driver will stop by with the pre-paid label when I returned my MBP. :( I wished I had such an option though because it would have been way cheaper than what I've paid to ship it back.

By the way, do you have an Amazon Prime account or something? I'm asking because I only have a regular Amazon account. Maybe having a "higher end" account with Amazon also means getting better services?

Yes, I have amazon prime. I think it entirely depends on the rep that you get. Some reps make me jump through hoops. Some read my mind and does what I want them to do without asking. Some reps would blatantly deny me, but another attempt not 3 minutes later would yield a favorable experience.

Oh, I see. Not only do you have Amazon Prime, but you also contacted an Amazon rep to process your return. All the Amazon returns I've done up to this point were directly through my online account menu options. I had always just clicked through the available option buttons to do my returns while I'm logged into my account.

I guess I learned something new today. In the future, if I ever have the need to return (of course, I hope I don't need to) very high priced items, I'll make sure I contact an Amazon rep to politely ask him/her to get me a pre-paid shipping label. :)

I just want a shipping date! It sucks needing to wait again after waiting for Amazon to ship from an 8/5 order. I just hope that I don't have to wait another three weeks again!
