Buy more USB C cables since that's where everything is headed. Get the USBC lightning cable and you won't need an adapter. You can use the MBP power brick to charge your phone and laptop.

It seems that OP made a typo in the thread title. It should read "terrific" ;)

P.S. Clean up the mess on your desk, it looks horrible. How can one work like this? I understand that seem to love dongles, but really? Why deliberately make your life miserable when nice and clean solutions like these exist and work perfectly fine: http://www.lmp-adapter.com/en/products/lmp-usb-c-mini-dock

Hey thanks man, yes you get it.
I'm not sure I fail that much in the diligence department though, as in : I read quite a lot of posts but you had so many people, presumably fanboys (and forgive me for using this word but this is really what it is), who said "you get used to it" (keyboard) , "battery is fine" (it's really not), "dongles aren't a big problem", you end up giving it a try to make your own mind, you know ?
Anyway, now it's more a "hey, sucks to be me" situation I'm trying to laugh about -especially when, believe it or not, I have a few colleagues calling me an Apple fanboy :) - , or rant about, until I can switch to either a better Mac or a PC.
And also, believe it or not, I kept a really open mind about it all. I was actually wondering at the start why there was so much polarization and conflict on this machine (it's one of my thread), but I grew up not to like it, but to dislike it even more.
Read macalways' short and funny comment on top of page 2, which summarize it : Yep, I was hoping for it to become a prince, or at least a machine I'd tolerate after a while :)
I really hope you get this sorted one way or another... for everyone's sake ;)

But dude, you are rubbing people the wrong way by lashing out and putting blame on everyone but yourself in this case. The MBP 16, fanboys on MR, super-rational and intelligent people on MR. The fact of the matter is just that you kind of boxed yourself into a corner by assuming a somewhat radical new design would work almost exactly the same as your old setup, which it didn't in your case. And you had a unique work situation involved in the purchase. That's what I meant by a fail at due diligence, personal application to you. Only you really know how you work or what kind of possible inconveniences you would tolerate. The MBP 16 is what it is. Some of us love it as it is. You are projecting your bad beat on a computer because it doesn't work for you.

Seriously, good luck on fixing the admittedly "uncomfortable" situation. You can either adapt your workflow or move on from the MBP 16, but stop beating it like it owes you money! Peace.

Firstly, great post. Its good to read a frustrating perspective because ive experienced something similar. Besides that is what the forums are for.

Second, many responses that came down on you remind me of crackberry.com forums when die hard fans defended and trolled those who had negative opinions about the z10 pos when it was released. 90% are no longer there.

I returned mine for a 15 build. But i have weird peeves. The keyboard and a few other things like forgetting dongles + having to leave the office taking a cab to the apple store to get an adapter for the iphone. **** like that, so I get where the OP is coming from.

There will be a refresh this year no doubt. They will fix it.

No you are not being open-minded at all ! If you were you wouldn't be now at the exact same position you were a month ago.
Furthermore, you are being irrational.. The machine is not going to morph into anything else than what it already is (an amazing computer, really) for you. It didn't fit your needs when you first purchased it and it still does not. If you want this to change it's you that must change and adapt. If you can not then this ill-fated relationship must end. You are obviously miserable in it (and the MBP just doesn't care)...

I probably shouldn't bother to participate in this thread. I believe it shouldn't exist really (it's a forum after all , not your therapist). But you have been such a bigot that I could not take it. Here we have a really, really good computer on one hand and you on the other calling everyone who reasonably liked it all sort of names (liars, fanboys, cult members) and blaming everyone else (and the machine itself) for the predicament you are in were in fact the only one to blame is you.

Simply, circumstances. I started a new job, had my own mbp but couldn't keep it ( I'm working in finance, they're very touchy about machines and ownership obviously ), requested this one because I needed power and portability.
I can't switch to Windows / linux without a serious dose of adaptation and time (need to renew all the tools), and since I'm starting the job it's time I don't have.

Ditto, the OS is the best around. Although it's been stagnating a bit (and crashing every now and then, while it never happened before).
My hope is that Microsoft is working on a new OS. I think the Ubuntu experiement is a sign of this. I hope.

I was more or less happy with them. Tired of Apple peddling old hardware, like the USB 2 we have for 2,5 years while the rest of the laptops were on USB3, HDMI which took ages to arrive (and is now gone...) . I give those examples often but they're pretty good. But happy about true innovation : Battery life, Retina screen, touchpad quality and best OS around.
But now, I'm just plain and simple disappointed.

I imagine you got the 15" ? Or is the Mac Pro so old that it's actually a bump in perf ? :)
[doublepost=1484336438][/doublepost]

Then you clearly didn't read the very first sentence. It's easy though, it's the first sentence.

I can't.

Exagerrated for you. I think it's a piece of ****, a stupid decision and I hate those adapters, the display issue it might cause, the flip around game . It's ugly, it's unpractical, and it lowers the output in HDMI. It's pure ****.
But good on you if you don't care, really.
You work in finance but bought a MacBook? That's odd, there is very little in the way of finance software for the Mac, it's all windows based. Would have been better off with a windows machine, if you need thin an light grab an HP spectre or if you need power an HP Z book. If the IT department at your employers had been consulted they would have steered you away from a MacBook Pro.

? That makes 0 sense whatsoever. I know fanboys come from a strange place, but being open-minded doesn't mean "You must love it and cherish it as your own child, at all times". It means give it a try.

You can read my history, check my post "after a week of use". I'm pretty sure i mention soemthing like "jury is still out there for the Touch Bar".
Later on in the Touch Bar thread I asked if there was any use for what I do (Programming), also tried to find any use for it.

So yeah, after a month, I find that it's not only useless & gimmicky, but also in the way as it bugs, and regular keys can't be found easily ( look+ touch + touch to set volume, rather than just blind touch with regular keyboard.
It doesn't mean I haven't been open-minded about it.

Ssshhhh ... listen to the sound of the wind. Breathe. Relax.

People are strange, I've even had one on this thread complaining my rant (clearly labelled as a rant by myself, from the very first words) was ... a rant ?!

I think it's fascinating, this phenomenon.

On one end, you have fanboys, who don't want to be called fanboys, but who clearly can't live a normal life or let go because someone doesn't like their computer, which is basically what a fanboy is about!

On the other end, it wouldn't come to my mind (or other disappointed people's minds) to go on a thread named "I love my macBook Pro" , starts with "I just adore my machine, this is an ode to it, if you don't like it please refrain from commenting", and then start to comment about how the author is wrong to love his machine.

Weird and a bit sad, really.

Hehe, almost perfect insight ! :)
They do / did discourage people from using Macs ! Mainly because it's one more platform to support, and also because we don't have the same sysadmin tools ( locking core, auto-update tools and other Windows horrors ).
And yes, finance related tools are on Windows too, however while I'm working in finance I'm still just a programmer, so I don't need those tools.
Most people in programming / web dev / design use Macs or Linux so they had to make exceptions.
I ended up wth 2 laptops because of the restrictions though :)

As a side note, 2 years ago I refused a well paid job mainly because they were enforcing Windows ! :)

Yeah... you are a lost cause . I figured that much out myself...

Look, I really don't care what you (or anyone for that matter) feel about this machine. You may like it and you may not, but this is normal. It is so normal and understandable that I never call people names because their opinion is not aligned with mine.

Which is exactly what you should do, but failed. Calling every one who liked it fanboy or liars or cult members without even the benefit of a doubt. When in fact everyone of them (fanboy or not) seems to have made a much more rational and educated buying decision than you have. At least they are happy with their purchase (which is a much better place to be than the place you've been for over a month now).

So why bother invading his thread then. Man has the right, he was very specific in his first sentance. This forums is for peoples frustrations along with likes...and the only reason he lashed out is because responses like yours...uhh return in then, leave go somewhere else, you didnt do research etc. Most of us just instant ordered it because everything that came out of cupertino was fantastic.

I answered that in my first post. Because of the bigotry and name calling.

But now, I think I was wrong to even bother ... So I am over and out !! Have it any way you like it !

Lol, bother with what??? Guy was tossing a personal rant and yeah, because first responses were going all apple knee emotional questioning his personal complants making it into a non issue.

And his right, we are used to US priveleages for same day delivery, as well driving up to best buy around the corner and quick access to products. Does not work the same way around the world. Apple policies much differ nation to nation.

Nobody is invading anything. Its a public discussion forum and I don't care if the individual threads are marked with disclaimers akin to "if you disagree, don't post". By starting a thread, OP is declaring it free game for anyone who wants to comment. Especially given the fact that his or her rants are clearly based on basic incompetence and inability to organise a workspace properly. I can also post pictures of an earlier Mac or a Dell or whatever where I try to connect to ethernet via a TB2->USB->Ethernet dongle or to connect to VGA by going HDMI->DP->DVI->VGA. That wouldn't make those computers 'terrible'. It just makes me ... a very special person ;)

I think it's fascinating, this phenomenon.

Do you honestly think that labeling something as a 'rant' gives you the right to insult people?

No one here, as far as I see, is crticizing the fact that you don't like this computer, they are criticizing you for verbally attacking everyone who does.

It's not a "phenomenon", nor is it fascinating. It's a very common, human reaction to name calling.

I find the new MacBook Pro disappointing. I don't own one(thank god) but I've tried it out and it doesn't impress me.

The keyboard is so disappointing, in my opinion the "old" keyboard is the best. There is no travel at all. It's a little bit of a pain to type on. The touch bar just seems like a hassle to use, I don't wanna accidentally tap a button.

The specs aren't very impressive. Being that my MBP 2010 '13 could reach 16gb of ram and 8gb is a minimum on $1000+ machine. I think on a machine like this, 16gb should be minimum. Maybe 16gb base and 32gb for $100 more? but moving on I am not a fan of AMD either, I think Nvidia is the way to go but again, my opinion. If someone can give me a technical view of why Apple chose AMD, I am happy to hear. My Geforce 320m is serving me well, so is my GTX 960.:)

The ports on the machine wasn't a very wise choice, USB-C for everything? I wish they would've threw in at least one USB-A port, but people would still complain anyway. This is probably the iMac back in the 1990s/early 2000s when Apple ditched legacy hardware and forced everyone to move forward. We're angry now but hey we might move forward with it. I still wish they included Magsafe though, but come to think of it, magsafe would probably pull your extremely light MBP of whatever it's on.

Again, this is all my opinion, but feel free to counter what I'm saying as I could be wrong.

Maybe, but then don't cry when you're called a fanboy because basically you can't stand that someone is disappointed in your toy.
As a side note indeed nothing stops you from commenting, but it's pretty rude.

Yeah seconding that. Althoiugh 4k is limited to 30hz which makes it pointless...

100% agreed on all of that. The worst for the ports is it didn't even come from some visionary approach, but a technical limitation in their implementation of TB3, which made it not possible for them to have other ports. that and of course, greed.

Interesting thread...

"Red Pill or Blue Pill ?"
No no do not offer multiple choice OP bound to be confused further :D

Ignoring the daft disclaimer and childish name calling and labelling I cannot think that this is nothing but an elaborate ruse to invoke reaction  as I find it hard to believe someone directly involved in the developement could be so detached from reality.

I could almost understand the rant if the OP ideal laptop had been a simple please Santa list :)

However, to come up with some unrealistic fantasy spec and build a hate list and a complex weave of scenarios, usage, workflow and history around this reads more like some bizarre cheap catch 22 type novel or worse still someone in need of medication LOL

The only bit of credence to the whole of this sorry tale was the OP was rightly honorable or too embarrassed to ask the employer to pay for another laptop and accept the delay whilst OP unravels ~10 years of development history using MacOS

It's unfortunate that some offered genuine advice and help to OP on a no win case :(

Hello Steve,

No need for the condescending tone, that's ******, like a certain macbook iteration :)
Talk about being childish ...

There is no ruse, if you look at my post history you'll see I was even a bit surprised at first about the amount of anger / conflict on macrumors on this machine at first.
After a while using it though I get it, it is a true lemon, and it's upsetting.

And I'll say it again : it wouldn't come to my mind (or other disappointed people's minds) to go on a thread named "I love my macBook Pro" , starts with "I just adore my machine, this is an ode to it, if you don't like it please refrain from commenting", and then start to comment about how the author and other people are wrong to love their machines.

I'm not sure about what you mean in a fantasy list, but that basically revolves around the same thing as usual : "Oh you don't like the laptop or had higher expectations? You must be wrong, let me explain you why " I have already answered such posts.

Hey, I cut the OP some slack because he clearly stated in the first post that this was a rant. But, come on! It's clear that he bought the wrong machine due to his own failings and his rant has gotten really old. He has taken this rant to other threads and it is just stupid.

You can't call me a fanboy to get away from the truth of my comments....so deal with it.

It's clear that he bought the wrong machine due to his own failings and his rant has gotten really old. He has taken this rant to other threads and it is just stupid.

Not really, another way to see it is that Apple could have provided a better machine, like many of us wanted. It's not like I'm the only one disliking this iteration.

As for other topics, I'm not going to say I like it elsewhere ?! And I don't do just that anyway, I also provide advice & info when possible.
[doublepost=1484510853][/doublepost]
Normally I would agree but this one is not using a straight bat IMO :)

Just wait for my next topic "2 months after, it remains a lemon" :D:D

Here is your logic applied to desktops:

"I bought a Mac Mini when, in reality, I should have bought a high end Mac Pro. It's Apple's fault that the Mac Mini isn't working out for me since they could have provided a better machine".

Apple did provide a better machine...you bought the wrong MacBook Pro!!

You aren't giving advice in other threads...you are ranting in them. Rant here all you want...just don't rant all over the place.
