Since using Bose Bluetooth Headphones - a once in many years investment - I came to the conclusion that a headphone jack really is obsolete.

Just last night I was talking to someone via their Bose Bluetooth headphones and it sounded like absolute CR*PP. I came to the conclusion that bluetooth is still really not ready for my use.

It's very unusual for a Chinese to poke fun like that. Recall, the concept of "Face" (面子) is very important in Chinese culture. This idiot/company is not Chinese - they're typical American a$$holes. Such a shame. No poise, no dignity. There's globalization, for you. A Japanese person (or company) would never project themselves like this.

Nothing gained by removing the headphone jack? Are you kidding?
Replacing my wired phone with a 20ft cable with a cordless phone gained nothing, it was fine!
Replacing my car ignition key slot with a keyless start gained nothing, it was fine!
Replacing my horse and buggy with an automobile gained nothing, it was fine!
Do you still want your floppy disk drive on your computer? I bet your computer doesn't even have a CD player anymore. Come on.

Sometimes you just need to progress! Wireless headphones/anything has HUGE advantages. And by keeping the jack promotes complacency in keep using it. Sometimes you just need to force people to use a better technology for it to really catch hold and literally push society forward. I congratulate apple and apologize for the people stuck in the past.

Making fun of Apple in keynotes is still a thing? At what point does it say more about the company poking fun than it does Apple?
Yes, it's still a "thing"... and it will continue to be a "thing" until Apple is no longer a "thing".

It might be hard to believe, but "punching up" has always been a thing since the beginning of time. "Punching down" at lesser targets is when it says something about the company poking the fun.

Why would any design department be dumb enough to purposely follow apple with that stupid notch design?

Do you own an iPhone X? Have you used one extensively for a few days to see if the notch is actually a problem?

I bet you'd find that it's a non-issue. Just like the dropping of the headphone jack.

The funny thing is that Apple _still_ sells phones without a notch and with a headphone jack, so does anybody have a reason to complain? They have an iPhone for you.

What an ugly phone!

I rarely say this, but the 1plus 6 looks like a fantastic phone.

this is really a non-issue.
Wired headphones are going away just as corded telephones.
Unless you're just completely opposed to change...

So? How does that make the removal of the headphone jack any less stupid? That's the single thing I absolutely hate about my iPhone 7.

I honestly haven't missed it. I use a combination of Bose QC55s and the included lightning ear buds. Ironically the main gripe I have is when I grab the buds, hop on my spin bike, and realize the old iPad I use on the bike, the one that can't hold a charge anymore and must stay plugged in, can't use the ear buds because the port is in use for charging.

Available in several colors?
I read only 2, black and white. A different shade of black is still black...

He called them "variations" in the keynote speech, not different colours.

I think they spent too much time talking about the design. I'm sure they are proud of it, though. It shows an attention to detail, which they've learned is important to consumers.

I had to flip my phone over when I read the headline because I hadn’t even thought of a jack since I got my new phone. There wasn’t one there but obviously I don’t need it!

According to your forum avatar, you do. ;)

Say what you want, but the next version of android has been designed with the notch in mind. . .

Some form of FaceID is going to be used on all high end phones within a few years, and that means front facing sensors. The design options are a relatively wide bezel or a notch, because if it was possible to bury it behind the screen Apple probably would have done so. A notch allows you to officially have a larger screen than having a bezel across the top of the phone screen does. Since other phone manufacturers aren’t going the bezel route either for their top end phones then either those competitors are too afraid to disagree or they think Apple made the correct decision.

The headphone jack and Bluetooth are not mutually exclusive. A phone can have both, and still be waterproof, like all of Samsung's Galaxy line.

And have a USB-C connector, again like the Samsung Galaxy, that will work with the same cables you have for your MacBook Pro.

unless you've been living under a rock, OP is "pure Android" done correctly. Google with pure android is a great experience but not awesome. OP has skinned pure Android to give you a much better user experience in standby, performance, and overall battery life

Oxygen OS is far from 'pure Android.' Now I could see you saying that if you were coming from Samsung or LG, then sure it'd look stock.

I miss the lack of a mechanical home button on the iPhone 7 and newer devices, since my Rode i-XY microphone expected a mechanical button to work properly. Apple should have warned Rode about that. Now I'm stuck on the 6s if I want to use this very good stereo condenser microphone.
