I like headphone jacks. Wish the iPhone still had one. But they saved nickels to get rid of it, so there we are. I hope they keep the adaptor for a few more versions.

I also would like them to move to USBC but it looks for fragile I really worry about it breaking and trashing my phone. The fragile portions should have been designed on the cord not the phone/computer/etc.

I don't think it was about saving money. Look at any report where they take it apart. They used the space taken up by the headphone jack to have other things like a larger taptic engine.

eh, I'm still holding onto my 6+ until eventually I upgrade later down the road. No surprise many people still miss their 3.5 jack for a variety of reasons, not to mention it being a universal standard. Quick side note, I was out in my friend's backyard who was having a BBQ, I brought some speakers out there so we can listen to music, until I realized that my iPhone was the only phone with a jack to plug the speakers in. Needless to say when I left, all the music stopped. woops.

And these scenarios (which are really not uncommon for me at least!) are exactly what annoy me about the lack of an always there headphone jack -- I find myself in a similar situation at least a couple of times a month now with my iPhone 6s Plus, and every time I do, I am glad I still have that jack there, and I'm dreading the inevitable upgrade. I've already purchased a spare Apple headphone dongle, an additional third party one with volume and remote included, and I already have a couple of bluetooth receivers I already use, and external DACS... but I'll miss the ease of use of an included jack. :(

Agreed!

Yes. But that is exactly what many consumers said they wanted: the iPhone 7plus, but with a headphone jack.

...except without iOS.

As much as I complain about the lack of a headphone jack (heck, it's why I've dragged my feet on upgrading and I'm still on my iPhone 6s Plus, and I really have complained many times on Twitter, bitterly, about it!) -- I'm *not* jumping ship to Android, or away from iOS, because even without a headphone jack, I'll take iOS all day, every day, rather than Android, on my phone.

I'm just too plugged into the Apple ecosystem -- Apple Watch, iMessaging, Find My Friends -- and I know there are non-Apple alternatives to all of the above (heck, I even use Life 360 supplementally), but I would be immediately annoyed not having iOS on my primary mobile device (my phone!) that it's just not going to happen that I will switch over a missing headphone jack.

Any phone with a headphone jack > iPhone

I've complained bitterly on Twitter many times in the last few months about the lack of a headphone jack on the new iPhones, but as much as it annoys me, I'm willing to deal with the hassle of a dongle (or Bluetooth receiver) for those instances I need wired connectivity rather than use a non-iOS phone.

I like headphone jacks too, however I like good sounding audio better, so using my Audioquest Dragonfly with £180 IEM's on the iPhone 7 is the best of both worlds.
I think that is great for you.
Most people seem to just want easy access to audio via a headphone jack with as little effort and cost as possible. Apple did not create more convenience by removing the headphone jack. Apple's wireless headphones still would have worked if the jack was still there, their users just would have had less reason to spend even more money on Apple products had Apple left in the jack.
Their phone, they can do what they want.

Of all the things to copy from Apple, the essentially 3-year old design of the iPhone 7+, giant bezels and all, seems like a bad one to go with. I do like the headphone jack though. Way to big for me though, if they made a 4.3" version i'd get it though.

Regarding the 3.5 mm being Jack deleted from the iPhone, with the AirPods, I don't even think about the Jack anymore and how the experience has been with the AirPods as a whole. The battery life and pairing was makes it that much better of an experience.

I haven't used the headphone socket either on my iPad Air2 or my iPhone 6 since I got my iPhone 6.
I like quality sound and I take the sound out through the lightening socket into a Cyrus Soundkey and a pair of B&W earphones.
I wish Apple went the whole hog and enabled devises like the Cyrus Soundkey to connect directly to the lightening socket rather than via the unweildy second generation Camera Adaptor.
If you do away with the headphone socket Apple then make it easy to hear true high quality sound without a big bulky Camera Adaptor.
I use and like the convenience of the headphone jack. I use it daily on my 6s and frequently on my 2017 iPad. Apple created the true high quality sound with their wireless headphones, just ask them. ;) Apple ditched the jack to move product not to make 3rd party merchandise easy to use with their phone.

I still find it shocking how similar the rear design is to the iPhone 7.

Yes, I've seen companies have their phone designs inspired by other companies, such as Apple, but this is a nearly identical copy.

I wonder if Apple will do something about it.

Similar. Its a dark colored rectangle. Yes, all phones are pretty similar nowadays

They are even worse then Samsung at copying Apple

Um, the whole point of the article is that they're NOT copying apple.

Indeed.

Old joke.

Personally, I don't mind the headphone jack but Bluetooth is the future and I am glad Apple is forcing this change. Next step, remove it from iPad, iPod and Macs.
You do realize Bluetooth works when there is a headphone jack present, right? It allows for versatility without hindering the quality or access to other forms of audio out.
But sure, get rid of choice, that is better for consumers.

Why so triggered about a personal opinion?

Did you rant when Steve Jobs forced HTML5 because the iPad didn't have Flash? Did you rant when they removed optical drive from the Mac?

Wonderful idea, but two major problems:
- it should be implemented across their whole lineup AT ONCE
- they should bundle a bluetooth 3.5mm dongle AND Airpods with it
Apple was trying to increase revenue by getting rid of the jack and introducing AirPods, not reduce it.

Headphone jack? What's that?

You mean to tell me people still use those old things?

Yes. A few times a month. I live in a world of audio, and 90% of the time, audio from my iPhone is through Bluetooth, but about 10% of the time? Yeah, I'm using that headphone jack. :) (I still have an iPhone with one! :D)

Put for people that won't convenience it's easy. You just plug the adapter onto your cheap headphones and leave it there. Forget about it. Job done.

It's been 7 months now and not having a headphone adapter has literally caught me out zero times.

That doesn't work when the use case isn't headphones or your device at all. For example, when I visited my mother, I plugged my phone into her stereo, and it doesn't have bluetooth, so that required a cable.

I might also be in a friend's car (that doesn't have Bluetooth but has an 3.5mm Aux input and cable) and wanted to share a podcast or music... and who always has a dongle in their pocket? :)
