My THREE nano sim just arrived in the post. Wasn't expecting this as they said nanos wouldn't start shipping until the 21st. Woohoo.

This MAY be a daft question...

Will a nano sim from any carrier work on orange, or does it have to be a nano sim from orange specifically????

I'm finding this Orange hatred BIZARRE. You are all getting angry that you can't get a SIM card for a non-existent phone yet!

Reality check. Nano SIM standard was finalized a couple months ago. Carriers had less than TWO MONTHS to get SIMs through the supply chain, it's amazing any of them can do it on time, much less a week early to suit you guys.

Oh really we didnt know. The point is other carriers had nano sims available whereas Orange wasnt giving any information out. People were worried they wouldnt get he sim by friday. If other carriers can be prepared, theres no reason why Orange cant.

Maybe Orange didn't see this coming as early as other carriers. Apple's secrecy extends to their supply chain partners as well. Don't think they knew, officially, all that long ago either - Apple didn't want leaks. Orange may have waited until it was official when other carriers just ordered a bunch as soon as they were announced knowing Apple would at least eventually go that way since they were the ones pushing the standard.

I don't know, and neither do you. Reality is Apple puts a huge strain on carriers as it is... blaming them for problems caused by Apple's bizarre and completely-different-from-the-rest-of-the-industry practices is totally unfair. First phone using a nano SIM, expected to sell millions launch week, what could POSSIBLY go wrong? Seriously, Apple. Design around the widely available micro SIM's and make a huge announcement you're planning to go nano SIM oh A YEAR before you do. But that would be totally un Apple like...

I just called Orange and spoke to the iPhone dept. No problems for me either. My nano sim (she even verified that this was for the iPhone 5 so it's definitely a nano) will be posted today and arrive within 4 working days. Very efficient and I was most pleased.

Of course it's also possible that ALL the carriers were in the same situation early on with regards to Nano SIM availability, but only Orange were honest enough to admit they didn't know. Wouldn't surprise me if O2, Three et all were just hedging their bets hoping that they could deliver on time. They'd look way more stupid if they failed to deliver than Orange do now simply cos they were prudent.

Long shot maybe, but I'm happy with Orange and have been for years. No other carrier covers my area and show no signs of doing so.

Bit off topic, but just had confirmation email that my iPhone 5 has shipped tonight from apple and should be with me on (or before) 21st....

Anyone on orange contract know the option to choose when we get our new sims in the your account bit?

Is it "swap a sim" or "activate a new sim" :S

The internal problems of huge multinational companies should not concern the end user. Its quite simple really, I go to Apple, I buy the phone that is available, then I want a SIM from my chosen carrier to allow me to use it. If both companies fulfil their advertised roles, ie one a designer and manufacturer and the other a mobile phone network operator, then there would be no reason to expect anything but what they are selling.

The fact that Orange screwed up severely in the customer service experience stands out in this particular instance.

I was told on the phone when I ordered the sim that it'd be quickest to call 0800 079 0027.

Yeah, as i found out the hard way when trying to cancel an orange contract taken out in-store, Orange retail are like a franchise thing and the same terms do not apply to them as orange online. As I was told repeatedly by bother arms of the orange brand they are separate entities, even thought they both trade under the orange name.

Anyhow, I called orange last night (17th September) I had arguments with several people and a manager over how terrible their knowledge was. First they knew nothing about the Nano Sim. Then when I threatened to cancel my contract within my 14 day cool off period they suddnely knew what a Nano Sim was. They told me various things, none of which got to the bottom of which was correct.

They told me I could call 150 on 21st and Order a Nano (what use is that when I'll have the phone on 21st).

They said i MIGHT be able to call 150 on 21st and order a Nano.

They said the Nano's would be available sometime AFTER 21st September.

Honestly, I've been disgusted with orange customer service from Day one. Today is my last day of my 14 cancellation right. I'm considering cancelling and going back to O2. But then I spoke to O2 and they told me I couldn't apply for a Nano Sim until 21st even if I took out a new contract today, So I don't think I'd be any better off.

Orange retail stores are Orange. In regards to getting a nano sim or any other pay monthly replacement is arrange through 150. In regards to cancel a contract, as far as I am aware this is done through CS for all networks as there are none I know of which you can just walk in and request cancellation then walk out, not bless you call CS the store.

Anyone had a nano sim in the post yet?

Id be very happy if it arrived before, or on the same day as my iPhone 5 arrives.

Any tips on how to get a nano sim out of Three? They say they'll ship them with new contract pre-orders, but no mention of existing customers. Grrrr.

Go into a store or call them. Three seem to have been the most organised of any of the networks.

Well no sing of the iphone 5 yet or the Orange NANO SIM, but early days. The phone Could arrive today, but I suspect the delivery is by courier UK Mail as that is who they seem to use these days for the phones.

There's very little chance of the phone arriving today! Apple spends quite a lot of money on the contracts for product launches like this & the various couriers don't want to jeopardise that. If your delivery is being managed by Syncreon it almost certainly won't be handed over to whichever courier's going to do the last leg until this afternoon.

My Orange nano sim arrived in post this morning.

Yippee!

Wonderful! Don't suppose you could upload a quick photo could you? Would be good to reassure myself that they do exist :D
