Any freaking day now...

:p JK, I just started using safari 4 and I don't want to have to go back to opera or worse fire fox (since I don't know my way around) so I'll wait patiently. They are cutting it a little close to SL though don't you think? Maybe this means no SL this year...:( another jk. I will make no speculation as to the release of SL since I don't know and have no way of knowing.

I think it all boils down to luck really. My 2.4 unibody pro was flawless no problems what so ever. I would say they are not worse in quality than their competitors if not better.

That's the tragic part of Apple these days, imo. You pay big for a premium comp... erhm, "lottery ticket" to get something that might or might not be what you were shopping for.

The competitors charge a lot less for theirs (i.e. HP) and still they're able to create good and working hardware though perhaps not exactly on par with Apple's design. And more to the point, they don't run OS X.

If I could choose, I'd want a "Mac" for the price (and build) of HP but with OS X since Apple is slipping on hardware QA.

I had to go through three (on the fourth) Unibody MacBook Pro's before I got one on spec. First one, trashed during packaging (wished I had a photo now). Second, serious pixel fault's in the bottom right corner. Third, DVD didn't work... Wow, amazing for a $2300 computer (that's what the cheapest MBP cost in europe!). Now I truly know why Apple must keep such a high premium price on their hardware...

:apple: =

Since I don't give a rat's a.. about Safari, can I have my 10.5.7 thanks? I would like the new graphics drivers please. The current one craps out every now and then... :(

Yeah and try buying an iPhone from them that doesn't have issues. I'm on my 4th one and this one is cracking too. Do they test this stuff?

Amen. I am severely disappointed in Apple, INC's dropping the PRO monicker by focusing more on consumer based products such as the AppleTV, iPhone, Mac Mini, iMac's and of course the recent release of a glossy LED ACD. While the Pro market of photographers and such may be small compared to the consumer market, most professionals have dropped serious coinage on Apple's top of the line hardware. The displays are one of the best for color accuracy, and most realize they are worth the extra cash. I recall visiting Annie Leibovitz's studio a few years back and was floored by how many cinema displays were lined up with half a dozen Mac Pro's. While Ms Leibovitz certainly isn't the average professional, most are willing to throw down serious coinage. Apple needs to get their Pro department (assuming there is one) back on track with better NON-glossy displays and serious hardware.

Is your iPhone by any chance the white one? For some reason, the white shell cracks more readily than the black (it's not just that the black hides the cracks, it's actually cracking more).

I really hope Apple decides to make some glass trackpad fixes on the new macbooks. Don't get me wrong, the trackpad is amazing, but it still needs some work on it. Apple will eventually get it right though.

Blacks crack just as bad. I've seen a lot of iPhones.

I worked behind the bar at Apple, and I saw a handful of black iPhones that had cracks, mostly from physical abuse. The white ones on the other hand were notorious for hairline cracks. Mostly the first batch of white iPhones were prone. I have had a black 16 GB iPhone since the day they came out, been dropped dozens of times and no damage. Guess I have been lucky.

I don't think the length of time is necessarily an indication this will be the last 10.5. They have been taking longer with these point updates in general. Maybe it is a policy change, or maybe as the complexity of the OS grows they just have to do more testing.

Over the lifetimes of Tiger and Leopard, most updates have come within 50-70 days. I think the only update that took even close to this amount of time was 10.4.11, which came 147 days after 10.4.10. We are now at 138 days (and counting) since 10.5.6.

But I do think we'll see at least one more Leopard update. And no one knows for sure when 10.6 will be released; it could experience delays.

As stated by many other the Safari issue is a non-issue. Safari is a separate application so they'll release a new version when this patch is ready for primetime.

I'm sensing that Snow Leopard is further along than originally thought of. Maybe it's the frequently released builds and the fact WWDC is a month away. Could 10.5.7 be delayed until June because it is that last Leopard version?

So "absolutely flawless" means "one flaw per month"?

It means I have absolutely no issues with 10.5.6, but I use iStat and it seemed to cause wakeup issues twice, as far as I can tell...I have no other problems with 10.5.6, and it's absolutely flawless in any other area of activity or with any other programs.

p.s.: I discovered I was using an old version of iStat, as autoupdate was off...there should be no problem now.

Is this normal for Apple to release weekly beta builds for months and not release them to the public? I like running beta software to see whats coming in the future and would like to try out this service pack.

Maybe they will finally make ichat AV work right. It seems to have gotten worse over time. I can only get a successful video chat to work about 10% of the time, no matter what mac/network I am on. Skype works every time.

No. 4870's are already shipped, and people can't use it because they don't have 10.5.7. Apple needs to release it ASAP simply because of that.

It can still work in 10.5.6, they just can't use any of the advanced features. Apple can issue graphic drivers update without 10.5.7 if they don't want to release 10.5.7 yet.

Considering it's a third party apps, yeah.

I have to say that I had a few bugs over Mac OS X, almost every of them coming from third party apps (Adobe CS3, Suitcase (stupid program screwing my system font folder...), iTunes Alarm) and Preview crashing over a particular folder. I have a lot more of problem coming from a single fresh install of Windows over one from OSX...

...I think there is some paint drying I should go watch...Come on Apple get 10.5.7 out so you can start shipping those darn 4870 cards!
