With last night's doubleheader we've wrapped up week 1.

mscriv 149 vs. Moyank 140
New yourk Limeys 125 vs. Tangerine Factor 138
Amber Meffs 143 vs. miles01110 124
Multiple Scoregasms 113 vs. Cat In Hellas 105
The Californian 80 vs. TCD's Boozehounds 104
Steve's Cupertino Kids 97 vs. MacNut's Nut Jobs 117

The high scoring team of the week is me (yeah!) with solid outings from Ray Rice (30 points), Reggie Wayne (23 points), and Greg Jennings (21 points).

The "Stud of the Week" is Tom Brady on the Multiple Scoregasms (rdowns) who single handedly scored 47 points on 517 passing yards and four TD's with one INT.

On the League site you will notice I've set up some Trophies that can be earned either on a weekly or a seasonal basis. You will earn either positive or negative points each week based on the trophies that you win and those point totals will be tracked throughout the season. It's just another way to have some fun with our league.

Brady KILLED me, along with Ryan and Moreno for my squad.

There are a lot of awards and plaudits are being handed out, but I'd like to say a word if I may about my vanquished opponent this week, miles01110.

I know folk like to 'trash talk' and all that, but I'm not the sort to make cheap shots at a defeated rival's expense. So instead – as a sporting gesture of respect – post-match I'd like to present a Meffs shirt to miles01110, as per soccerball custom.

As such, I've instructed Barry the Kit Man make up a special jersey as a memento for my opponent.

mscriv, you'll have to let me know what size you wear.

Well played sir. Put me down for XL, the same size as the whoopin' I plan on laying down at Meff Park. :D

I'm taking a leap of faith drafting Newton. I have Roethlisberger as my starter playing Sea, so we'll see how he goes. Rodney White is likely going to be matched up with Nnamdi Asomugha

This week should go a long way in telling us whether Newton just had a good week against a lacking Cardinals D or whether he can stand up to more solid competition. The Packers will definitely bring pressure and their secondary is far superior to the Cards.

I'll tell you this though, I will watch the game with a lot more interest knowing what Newton did last week.

Yeah, no way I'm starting him vs. Greenbay while Rothlisburger is playing Seattle. If he plays like he did vs. Baltimore and Cam plays decent vs. Greenbay, Newton will start for me week 3. I don't anticipate that happening though vs greenbay. Clay Matthews and Co should have a field day.

Blimey, that mscriv looks to be rebuilding his team a fair bit. One would almost think he had minor concerns going into this weekend's fixture.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that trade. He's running scared.

You two are so cute.

The trade was out of the goodness of my heart and for the purpose of helping out poor Steviem who obviously needed some WR's after Colston and Nix got injured. I happened to have some spare pass catchers and didn't have a back up QB so I thought I would extend the offer. The new additions are just efforts to reload after making the trade. So listen up, I won't tolerate any sort of slight on my charitable act of league teamwork as I'm just the giving commissioner type. :)

As for you two, well, after this weekend cracking jokes won't be the only thing you'll have in common. A loss to team mscriv will be another bond you can share. ;)

No doubt, Harry. Just don't get too upset if anyone calls you a wheeler dealer. :p

I've made a few trade offers myself - the third is out there now – but with no joy so far. I must say though, I've been looking to try and get as good a balance as possible with the players involved but clearly my offers aren't attractive enough. That's why I was a little confused to see the #7 rated quarter back be exchanged for the #40 and #90 rated receivers – especially as from steviem's point of view there seem to be better players available on the waivers or as free agents without sacrificing the valuable Stafford.

Clearly, I'm approaching this the wrong way. :D

Trades can be tricky and most fantasy experts agree that for the most part trades should be allowed to go through unless there is severe mismatch in value or collusion.

In our league it's set for the commissioner to be the only veto power over a trade. Some leagues are set up where each team owner gets a vote and one naysayer can block the trade. I don't like doing it that way because I think there's more of a chance for abuse. I mean if I could block a trade that would prevent someone in my division from getting better then why wouldn't I? The temptation to block a trade is greater that way and often people base their decision on how it affects them as opposed to whether it's generally fair. As commissioner I do my best to be unbiased and will only prevent a trade if it's obvious collusion or tremendously unfair.

The trade with Steviem was based on need and don't forget that ratings and values at this point are only based on one week of game play. He needed receivers and I was able to provide two serviceable WR's who will play for their team each week and have the possibility to put up numbers. Both Ocho and Ward have great potential when you look at if in terms of the entire season. Most of what's on the waiver wire now are not starting receivers who are guaranteed to get game time each week. As for Stafford, yes he's rated high, but QB's are different due to the fact that each team only plays one QB each week as opposed to playing three WR's. Additionally, Stafford is Steviem's back up and with Vick as a starter he's only going to be used as a bye week replacement. So, you also have to figure not just a players "rank", but their value to that team owner.

The trade made sense for both of us and was fair in that it was a two players for one swap which helps with the value difference. Steviem can chime in with his own thoughts, but that's how I presented the offer to him.

Right then, Week 2. We'll see if mscriv's acts of extreme charity bring the rewards his altruistic nature deserve. A word of warning though – we've had a fair bit of rain here and following his pre-match inspection the groundsman tells me the Meff Park pitch is looking a bit muddy...

It might be advisable for the players to wear long studs out there, that surface looks like it might cut up a bit.

EDIT: Oh no! Looking at the other matches there's been an oversight by steviem, who has left a gap in his team! For some reason he's failed to bring in either of his two serviceable wide receivers Ochocinco or Ward into his starting line up! Schoolboy.

EDIT EDIT: Blimey! I was following the scores come in and watching our respective tallies rack up, and things were close for a while there. Obviously there's still one player left to feature – that being mscriv's kicker – but I think it's pretty safe to say where the victory will be going in this particular match up. ;)

And I think it's also pretty safe to say that I'm rather pleased at the outcome. :)

Poor Stevie M...I didn't even notice the match-up until game time and i saw the missing WR. Though, I don't feel bad beating him, if that is the final outcome. I'm still seeing red from my unfortunate defeat last week.

Further calamity for poor steviem – it seems that Vick suffered a concussion in yesterday's match. Am I right in thinking that he'll only be able to play once he's passed medical tests, or after a set period of time has passed? Trading his back up quarter back might not have been the greatest move...

I'm glad that my top pick is definitely out for the rest of the season with an ACL tear (J. Charles) and my second pick will have nothing to play for if/when he returns (P. Manning). Oh well, time to forget about this season.
I wouldn't worry about it – I only have one running back. I mean, two show up but only one actually bothers playing. Well, I say one does. :D

Just swap Charles out, you'll be fine.

I have Vick in another league, so I hope he wont miss next weeks game.

The Charles injury really sucks, and I was looking at both of my leagues, seeing who had him :D

I had a very nice day yesterday. I got 20+ point games from five of my guys (Green, Ryan, McCoy, Johnson& Johnson), and Pitts D did much better than last week. I think Ill be getting my first W this week, unless Bradshaw gets about 80 points tonight :D I just wish I would have went with Green in my other league, because I would have won with his points (Mike Williams of TB is doing crap so far this season )
