just got back from work.
bam..bam..bam.....downloading now.
btw, how long was your dl ?
It took about 40 minutes for me on cable.
Glad I'm not alone.
So let's collect our knowledge:
I called one time today, around Noon CST. Talked to a guy who honestly didn't seem too up on the situation at all, but assured me to keep trying and that it should be fixed in a bit. He did confirm that my serial number was eligible, which was nice to hear. I thought for a second that they'd try to say I somehow wasn't eligible now and then there'd be a fight.
Anyway, purchased my MacBook Pro 13'' i5 (my first mac ever) on June 14th. Just as when I bought my iPhone last year, I can't imagine going back to the crap (compared to my Apple products) I used to use. This, honestly, is the only issue I've ever had with Apple. Does this stuff happen often?
Anybody else get any further information out of customer service? Any sort of realistic time frame other than "should be a few hours"?
So irritated. Still not working!!! I've tried all the form options and my serial number is still "not valid"
Applecare was useless earlier today, she just told me to keep trying and that it wasn't a big deal...i have until Aug 19th. Yeah but I want it now!! I realize the servers are getting slammed but didn't they know how many people were eligible for this and therefore prepare for it?
Having my first "pissed at Apple" moment today.
I don't think it's server load, necessarily. It's mostly (if only) affecting online purchases, which makes me thinkserver misconfigurations or data was improperly loaded. If the servers were indeed overloaded, it would be affecting everyone equally, unless there is a dedicated server for online purchases...

That makes sense. The second woman I talked to at Apple gave the excuse that it was server issues so I just went along with that....at least she admitted there was a problem unlike the other who swore there were no issues at all!
I realize this isn't life or death but when you're told you can have something and then everyone else gets it before you, it's quite frustrating!! I've been calm all day while I tried over and over again but now I'm losing patience![]()
Exactly. Seeing everyone comment on Lion is extremely annoying because I can't get it. It's like being invited to a party and then being forced to just watch.
I'm having the same invalid serial number problem, and I purchased my iMac from an apple retail store.... Still not sure how to check the status with my claim reference number.
Honestly this is ridiculous that we have to wait for an email with a redeem code when others who use the Apple Online Store method get the code instantly..![]()
any other clues how i can look up my model number?
I finally got through on the long form (the one that requests your email).
Received an email similar to the one above that said I would receive another email once my claim had been verified. I have a claim reference number as well. Any idea how long this will take now? It's super late (insomnia), but hopefully I'm going to crash soon. It'd be nice to wake up tomorrow to Lion, albeit a day later than most everyone else.
I'm still getting "ineligible serial number" on the long form...
Here's a thought -- How upset should we be by this? I'm trying this new zen sort of mentality (I sorta fly off the handle at little things sometimes) and want a second opinion...
I'm pretty pissed, but hiding it well. I wanted to call AppleCare and talk to someone again, but they're closed for the night. But really, is this something we should shrug off? Or get all HULK SMASH on their asses?
I've just realised... I haven't registered my MBP yet and I'm wondering if that's why they dont recognise the serial number? Any ideas?!
That worked for me as well and now it says I have to wait for my claim to be processed....I assume that's normal?
