Glad I'm not alone.

So let's collect our knowledge:

I called one time today, around Noon CST. Talked to a guy who honestly didn't seem too up on the situation at all, but assured me to keep trying and that it should be fixed in a bit. He did confirm that my serial number was eligible, which was nice to hear. I thought for a second that they'd try to say I somehow wasn't eligible now and then there'd be a fight.

Anyway, purchased my MacBook Pro 13'' i5 (my first mac ever) on June 14th. Just as when I bought my iPhone last year, I can't imagine going back to the crap (compared to my Apple products) I used to use. This, honestly, is the only issue I've ever had with Apple. Does this stuff happen often?

Anybody else get any further information out of customer service? Any sort of realistic time frame other than "should be a few hours"?

I have never really had any problems like this before, but I do know it happens when they launch new stuff (like MobileMe a few years back). I have called customer service twice as well and gotten the same response as everyone else. I can understand server problems, but I can't understand why they have no way to alert us as to when the servers are up. I think "just wait" is a bit ridiculous when they could easily tell us if the servers are fine or not.

So irritated. Still not working!!! I've tried all the form options and my serial number is still "not valid"
Applecare was useless earlier today, she just told me to keep trying and that it wasn't a big deal...i have until Aug 19th. Yeah but I want it now!! I realize the servers are getting slammed but didn't they know how many people were eligible for this and therefore prepare for it?
Having my first "pissed at Apple" moment today.

I don't think it's server load, necessarily. It's mostly (if only) affecting online purchases, which makes me think server misconfigurations or data was improperly loaded. If the servers were indeed overloaded, it would be affecting everyone equally, unless there is a dedicated server for online purchases...

That makes sense. The second woman I talked to at Apple gave the excuse that it was server issues so I just went along with that....at least she admitted there was a problem unlike the other who swore there were no issues at all!
I realize this isn't life or death but when you're told you can have something and then everyone else gets it before you, it's quite frustrating!! I've been calm all day while I tried over and over again but now I'm losing patience :(

Exactly. Seeing everyone comment on Lion is extremely annoying because I can't get it. It's like being invited to a party and then being forced to just watch.

I am also having problems with the free Lion Application that is not based off of the Apple Online Store.

Does anyone know when I should be expecting my redeem code on my email?

I tried to call AppleCare about it, but they were just as clueless about it as me:rolleyes:

I am totally with you guys. I ordered through 1.800.MY.APPLE because for some reason it was coming out to be $15 cheaper instead of online. THe guy there ordered through the internet so it is probably still all the same. I have another friend who lives in NY who VERY RECENTLY (like about a week ago) ordered a 17" MBP through the net. He got it on the first try. This makes me think it is location based. Who knows though.

I'm having the same invalid serial number problem, and I purchased my iMac from an apple retail store.... Still not sure how to check the status with my claim reference number.

Post back when you find out. I want to know how long the other form is taking. I'm afraid of submitting that way in case the servers start working, and then it rejects it since I registered the long way.

Honestly this is ridiculous that we have to wait for an email with a redeem code when others who use the Apple Online Store method get the code instantly..

I got "Error : Ineligible serial number", it this makes you feel better...

...still waiting on email code from Apple...

..they send me an email

"Dear noel,

Your claim has been received and is currently being processed.

We will send your App Code by email once your claim has been validated.

Please make a note of your Claim Reference: 773-760-349-001

Kind regards,

Apple."

that was at 8:35am. its now 9:50PST...and of course still no email.

i do get "eligible serial number" on both forms, the short and the long one.
and i did check i'am on the right side (http://www.apple.com/de/macosx/uptodate/).
bought my iMac online at apple. earliest reception mail is from Jun 9 2011.

other thing is , i tried to look up my model number on the sticker on the original iMac box. well, there is none sticker. any other clues how i can look up my model number?

and is there another form i can request my lion code, except the two versions here in post one?

I finally got through on the long form (the one that requests your email).

Received an email similar to the one above that said I would receive another email once my claim had been verified. I have a claim reference number as well. Any idea how long this will take now? It's super late (insomnia), but hopefully I'm going to crash soon. It'd be nice to wake up tomorrow to Lion, albeit a day later than most everyone else.

You mean serial number?

1. Go to the apple menu in the top left corner of your screen.
2. Click on "About this Mac."
3. Click twice on the gray text that reads "Version 10.6.8" -- It should then show you your serial number.

If you want to copy and paste it to avoid errors, click on the More Info button at the bottom and the serial number is also listed there amongst all the other info, toward the bottom.

Good luck.

got through on the long form as well total BS though I wanted to keep my Lion downloading NOW!

Did it take you a long time for your jpg proofs of purchase to upload? I attached 2, 1 screen shot of my invoice and also a scanned copy that I had printed out. It's been doing the circle uploading animation for 5 minutes now..these files are 500kb each..

I'm still getting "ineligible serial number" on the long form...

Here's a thought -- How upset should we be by this? I'm trying this new zen sort of mentality (I sorta fly off the handle at little things sometimes) and want a second opinion...

I'm pretty pissed, but hiding it well. I wanted to call AppleCare and talk to someone again, but they're closed for the night. But really, is this something we should shrug off? Or get all HULK SMASH on their asses?

Surely the objective of the zen mentality is to not get pissed at all, not "get pissed but hide it"... that just sounds unhealthy...!

As a result, I would recommend getting all HULK SMASH on their asses :D I'll help...

24 hours later and it still isn't working?!?!? This is ridiculous... Apple should at least make some kind of public announcement/apology and update everyone on when we will be able to get our copies!!!!
:mad::mad::mad:

I've just realised... I haven't registered my MBP yet and I'm wondering if that's why they dont recognise the serial number? Any ideas?!

I did that too, it doesnt change... The serial will still apears as invalid :(

That worked for me as well and now it says I have to wait for my claim to be processed....I assume that's normal?

Well, i have been waiting for 24 hours for the "validation"... Wich is their limit
