I like your thinking although I absolutely despise what you're saying.
This could actually be 100%. If UPS is pure evil they could very well deliver new orders immediately and tell everyone *cough*press*cough* "SEE, WE'RE BACK TO NORMAL!!11 NO EYJAEYJASMTHVOLCANO PROBLEMS ANYMORE!"

This is what happens to the passengers also. The new tickets are prefered. Those that waited have to wait longer.
I think this practice is "normal" and will be applied to our shippments also....

This could actually be 100% accurate if UPS is indeed pure evil itself. They could very well deliver new orders immediately and tell everyone *cough*press*cough* "SEE, WE'RE BACK TO NORMAL!!11 NO EYJAEYJASMTHVOLCANO PROBLEMS ANYMORE!"
Those who waied may very well wait even longer...

Please tell me life is a fairytale and UPS are the good guys, right? :)

I don't think they'd risk that. I imagine that priority service shipments will indeed get ahead of our economy service shipments, but otherwise we're at the head of the queue. They could never get away with serving new orders first - too many people on forums such as this would put the pieces together and make it public.

Oh well...my grandma has her own proverb, kind of an interpretation of Murphy's Law. Best translation probably: "The devil always takes a dump on the biggest pile there is."

If there is a gigantic backlog of parcels in Shanghai, then probably high priority packages will ship first. I doubt they will be sent in order of origin scan.

I hope I'm wrong, but as some have stated, we will probably be without MacBooks for at least until the end of the week.

After reading the UPS Europe Twitter feed i have come to the conclusion that they are going to move what they can during night time, i doubt we will see any changes to our tracking within the next 6 hours. Local time in Shanghai right now is 6pm, so if its going to move in the night time its going to be a little while...

Ordered the 14th.
Still not shipped
estimation delivery date: 4-5 May
:(

Ordered from Belgium btw

You're not alone. I ordered the base 15" with a High-Res screen on the 15th, and my order still isn't shipped either. I contacted Apple Support and they said that it was because of the volcanic ashes (couldn't they just build it anyway!? I feel like I'm being pushed to the end of the production queue because of this).

Shipping to Denmark, who, ironically, has opened its airports until 2 AM. Ugh. At least most of you have had your MBP shipped.

Which tweet makes you think that they are waiting for the night ? I think the only thing they are waiting is a clearance to fly. Shaghai UPS facilities must be full (and still filling) while Europe is empty and waiting.

I hope though, they use the FIFO paradigm ;)

Hi from Portugal,

I've ordered a base 13" model, no extras, on the 16th and still hasn't even been processed. It does say 5 business days but I was hoping for it to be quicker.

Anyone who ordered on the same day ? And what's your status ?

Just a thought: Germany & the UK are open now...but what's up with Ukraine, Belarus, Poland etc? They're still covered by the ash cloud and the plane obviously has to fly through that :/

@magnus55 Hi Magnus. Yes, however restrictions still apply and further delays are possible. Our aircraft fly mostly overnight.

The problem is our MBP's are not people. It is not costing UPS a great deal for them not to be shipped yet, compared to people who require accommodation etc.

I doubt UPS will route our packages all over to get them to us because that would cost them more than simply waiting for the cheapest option which is to wait until they can fly direct.

Simple answer is they don't care really, as in a few weeks time they can just put all this down to "the volcano"

the Apple website still think i will get mine 19th April, seems unlikely to say the least.

DHL still quote 22nd April. Also seems unlikely, but I hope. In my heart I'm hoping for Friday, in my head Monday or Tuesday.

This flight map, though it is not 100% accurate, shows the route often taken between Cologne-Shanghai and it bare crosses any of the countries you mention. Gotta love the curvature of the earth ;)

Boas.

The ashes don't reach airplane cruising altitude. They'll be able to fly over it.

Took a look up at the sky this morning; literally FULL of very long wispy clouds. Yes, it does suck A$$ big time having to wait more, but I kind of missed the clear skies; was a bit like being in the far future or something. Or the past...

Wait can be shorter than we think

There is a hope that our new toys may be closer than we think. I presume that Apple customer service knows no more than we do about UPS shipments and UPS isn't particularly well informed either, otherwise they would have updated their tracking system rather than just putting "NATURAL DISASTER" on it. One has to admire the fact that there is a scan for natural disasters though..:)

Anyway, here's the possible scenario. Yesterday there were 2 UPS flights from Seoul (INC) - usual path for shipments from Shanghai (PVG):
5X65 to Anchorage landed today 2:52am and
5X9 to Vienna, landed yesterday 2:32pm.

People in the US are now posting their FedEx tracking info showing that some MBPs arrived to Anchorage FedEx facility today at around 3:30 am. Therefore it is reasonable to suggest that MPBs somehow got to Seoul and that Vienna flight also contains some of them.

The next flight UPS flight from Vienna (VIE) to Cologne (CGN) 5X275 hasn't taken off yet, it's scheduled for 10:40 pm tonight. They might be there, what do you think?
