Our MBP is stranded in ShangHai thread [UK/Eu]

For those who have just got Apple Hardware ... it tends to be a direct shipping and use UPS in the UK, for those addidng extra items including Apple Care it tends to go via EU/Uk distribution and these in the UK tend to be via TNT.

I have been told that TNT are now sending flights via Spain and then by road/sea! As those items going into EU Distribution tend to be on pallets, thats why tracking has not been updated yet

TNT have the following message on its website:

"TNT Airways flights to and from the UK have been severely impacted after an ash cloud from a volcanic eruption in Iceland led to the suspension of all activity in UK airspace.

The company is monitoring the situation and, where applicable, making contingency measures to move its customers' imports and exports to and from the UK via its wholly-owned European Road Network - the most strategically sophisticated network of its kind on the continent.

At present some deliveries are subject to delays of up to 24 hours but TNT is addressing this situation by increasing the volumes of parcels and packages switching from air to road deliveries.

Normal air services will be resumed as soon as is practically possible upon the re-opening of UK airspace by the UK Air Traffic Control Service"

So does this actually mean that Apple Care has already solved one problem with my laptop and it will arrive with just a slight delay?

Ah, now I remember. You're correct - it's Amsterdam. Not sure if UPS do something similar (company Apple used to use for EU orders was Khuene & Nagel).

Yep, I have read a lot of threads/research while waiting for my MBP! :p

@raykhrud, I was pondering what problem has Applecare solved for you even before you start using your MBP...

Obvously the shipping problem. As it was noted above, mbp only orders go through UPS (and they are stuck), while orders of mbps and something else (e.g. Apple Care) get shipped by TNT, who are creative and are now sending everything to Spain and then using their own trucks.

For anyone like me who for one minute gave up hope on their Mac pro arriving soon. This morning after seeing my shipping status as "NOT YET SHIPPED" I emailed. This is what i got back instantly:

"the order is currently prepared for shipment but i have been advised that it may take 48 hours for it to be dispatched due to the aforementioned volcanic ash situation.

when it has been dispatched you will received an email with a tracking number to track your order with the courier.

It will be dispatched from the UK so delivery usually does not take that long. I would expect that you would receive your product at the latest on Friday and the earliest tomorrow.

All things going to plan if it is dispatched today you would probably receive it tomorrow. You will have a better idea once the email is sent when it is dispatched."

There's a little bit of hope for everyone in Europe! I just phoned UPS and the woman was really helpful. At the moment I have the: " PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE / RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY. NOW IN-TRANSIT FOR DELIVERY" notice, but the woman said it has actually left China some time last night and is headed to Germany. She apologized for the delay in status changes and said it is possibly due to there being a time difference between Europe and China. She said my status should be updated in the next few hours, and to give them a call if I need any further help with the statuses. Hopefully she was right when she said it left China because the time she said it left is not on my tracking notices, so I doubt it would have been logged in their computers if it wasn't true. Fingers crossed!

That's interesting. Mine shows as "Shipped on: Apr 17, 2010 via UPS (UK) Limited" with a delivery date of the 20th.

I'm hoping that they are shipping some from the UK. Gives me some hope.

Just called UPS. Mine should be picked up today and they say it's being shipped from Leicestershire so maybe I'll bypass the volcanic cloud problems!

Possibly could be delivered tomorrow then.

I just got of the phone from UPS and was told that my parcel left the airport in Germany and is in a road move to the UK. Fingers crossed.

What does your tracking say ? Also
KOELN (COLOGNE), DE 04/18/2010 3:20 P.M. PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE / RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY. NOW IN-TRANSIT FOR DELIVERY

I've just phoned Apple Sales Support. The woman was really helpful and told me that my order is already in Prague (!? Maybe UPS is re-routing stuff over Eastern Europe. Pretty clever!) and should be delivered by train freight or trucks via UPS to Cologne, Germany on time. That would be Wednesday then. Sweet.

Mine still says delivery is today but no further status updates and last one was Shanghai.

Status: In Transit.

when Mac sent via UPS and TNT by air they fly into their regional hubs and the items scanned which is how they update tracking. If items have been loaded onto road or into different ports/hubs then the itemised tracking may have gone out of the window and they are just tracking bulk shipment...

Mine status still: exception.

Btw, I added a link to my tracking status to my sig. Can you all do the same ? it will avoid asking all the time what are your respective statuses. A direct link to the UPS tracking is

Code:
http://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTrackingOnlineTool?InquiryNumber1=XXXXXXXXXXXX

Just replace the XXX with your number.

KOELN (COLOGNE), DE 18/04/2010 21:12 PACKAGE NOT RELEASED THROUGH CLEARING AGENCY SYSTEM - DOCUMENT INSPECTION REQUIRED / RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY. NOW IN-TRANSIT FOR DELIVERY

Mine still says this... I doesnt make much sense to me. Is the packaged released or not? To me that message could be understood two ways, stupid UPS!

I posted it on the other thread... but maybe useful for somebody here too..

ordered 15" CTO (HR Glossy Screen, and US keyboard) within an hour or so of shop going back online.

Last friday morning it changed to "Shipment dispatched" but no tracking info as of yet, and I am in the UK... it only says dispatched via Syncreon / Merge in the UK.

Originally been given the delivery date 26-27 April, but it changed to 3rd of May long with the dispatched status change.

the other funny thing is that I enrolled for AppleCare and already got the enrolment email.

Also have used the chat on apple's website to find out if there is any update, and some rude chick closed the chat on me when I asked if my apple care will be extended since I did not receive my macbook yet, because I wouldn't mind if that was 2-3 days but 3 weeks taken off my warranty, not very good.

"Does anyone in the UK have UPS as a carrier?" Are you serious? Read the thread will you! I don't usually get pissy with people not searching, but for crying out loud!!!

I think he's referring SPECIFICALLY to UPS Ireland as he says:
"Does anyone else in the UK (England) have UPS Ireland as a carrier?"
