So much for those who dissed the attraction of wireless charging.

I used to be on Android until 6S Plus/7 Plus, and just got the iPhone 8 (only keeping until I can get a X). It sounds awesome until you use it and realize it’s a gimmick. The charging speed is awful and you can’t use your phone while it’s charging, unlike the trusty cable. Fast charging is where it’s at. Sucked paying $25 for an Apple USBC to Lightning, but 2-2.5% increase per minute is worth it.

If you're used to using your phone while charging, yep a cable is better.

For those of us who put our phone down to charge and switch to using another device such as an iPad in the meantime, wireless charging is nice.

Then you didn't spend very much time on those very forums right here on MR when the newest MBP"s came out and especially the ones with the TB. The hue and cry was as loud and furious as I have ever seen in all my years here on MR.

You are definitely correct. There was quite an uproar. That said, as a general rule, I don't see nearly as much griping about desktop, laptop, or even iPad, pricing as I do iPhone pricing. The idea that "it's just a phone" is absurd. In my mind it all comes down to the ridiculous belief some people have that they need a new phone every year. There's no other piece of technology that people upgrade annually. Because so many people have this idea that a perfectly good phone must be replaced every year, they also want it cheap and complain about pricing.

I just cant bring myself to spent 2/3 of a salary on a phone ... i will wait for the „S“ Version if i ever decide to fork out so much money on a phone or hopefully it flops in europe and they will decide to drop the price

Of course...why does the 64GB model even exist on a phone that costs 1K?
So that the iPhone X can "start at" $999, when the ASP will be ~$1100. For the last few years Apple has made the lowest storage iPhone "too small", to encourage people to buy the larger storage model. Apple is charging $150 for an extra 192GB, the cost to Apple would be far less than this, my guess would be $20 - $40. It would be fascinating to know the proportion of 64GB to 256GB, Apple is making.

That's interesting .... reading on here, I thought the 8/Plus was a dead goose and I and about 10 others were the only people on the planet that wanted one

Everyone is waiting for the X, except 72 people out of 100

This survey is about 'intention to buy', not actual sales. People will often say 'I'm going to buy the best phone with the most storage, but when it comes to parting with as much money as it costs to purchase a Macbook, or top-level 21.5" iMac, suddenly people get cold feet.

These numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

Probably to give people a reason to fork over another $150? Just a guess.

Apple has always been that way. The base storage is just low enough to nudge people to pay that extra $100.

The "X" is just another boring smartphone. I sense a retro-trend is in the offing. Remember when people looked really, really important when they pulled these out....

i'm not quite sure the comparison is valid.

if someone was using a cell phone 25yrs ago, it caught looks because it was so abnormal to see a person talking on a phone in public that wasn't a pay phone or otherwise connected via wire..

that whole effect is lost on iPhone X.

you pull out an iPhone X in public next month, barely anyone will take notice.. and barely anyone out of that group will be like "oooh.. that person must be rich" (or whatever the angle you're implying)

I'd go for the 128GB option but there is none!
When I bought my 7, I wanted a 64GB to match what I had from the prior phone. Nope had to pay that extra $100 for the 128GB. now that I’m good with 128GB, nope I’d have to go for the 256 should I decide to go for the X. Apple knows most will not want to go to a lower capacity than their previous phone, and knows just exactly how to squeeze that extra $100 (now $150) out of those people.

I’m sitting this one out.

Facial recognition second attractive feature? I wouldn't have thought that based on the discussions here at MR :)

the way the survey results are being shown to us is a little weird..

• the survey appears to have 4200 participants.
• 800 people in the survey are interested in purchasing an Apple phone.
• 225 of them are interested in the X

..so it seems 3400 people, who aren't buying an apple phone, much less a X, are the people saying "wireless charging is the most attractive feature of iPhone X."

..but we're sort of reading it as -- "of the people who will be buying a X, half of them say wireless charging is the most attractive feature"

which is very likely false..

the people who are interested in the X would almost definitely be voting in one of the other categories.

--------
idk.. i don't really have much of a point.
the survey/results are probably more suitable for an investor and less meaningful to a consumer forum.

I think I'll go with the 64. I have the 128 7 plus now and still have plenty of room left. Most of my "stuff" is in iCloud anyway.

I'm literally in the same situation. 128 GB iPhone 7+, but i use iCloud/OneDrive and have tons of space left on my phone. With all the seamless cloud solutions available today in addition to the new APFS, 64 GB is more than enough for a phone. 256 is overkill.

Is anyone else concerned that out of the 832 individuals, only 9% cared for AR/VR capabilities in the iPhone?!

Apple is spendin millions on AR but it seems, at least thus far on iOS, not many really care about it. I don't, not in the form of Animoji ... but for internal mall or business or underground travel (like P.A.T.H. in Toronto) for AR I'm curious about how that will take in such a situation. At what level of 'weird' would occur before people think someone is really off their rocker walking around staring at their phone at eye level twisting and turning as they walk through a mall or on the street in a crowd?

PokemonGo did well but it was easy to see and tell people where gaming. But for mapping and ads ... just too creepy like.

Well.. the same happened for 3D as well didn't it.... Now it's no more in with TV manufactures... You may even say, AR may go the same way...

Its cool while it lasts.... but i never expect it to be big, until there is proof worldwide,, not just a few million here and there. Pokemon was more of a better storm in a few months, but that was more of a huge rush to play..... then died....

AR is more like slowly seeping out..... But i still expect it to die anyway, Too early to tell

128GB is still the sweet spot

With HEIF and HEVC cutting photo/video storage pretty much in half, then 64GB on the new iPhones is like 128GB on older iPhones.

Unless you have a huge music library you want to store locally on your device. I have a feeling that it’s photos/videos that consume most people’s storage.

While this will help for new images and videos. It does nothing for existing. Therefore, yes you’ll use less going forward, but it’s not like the current size of your library is going to decrease.

128Gig would still be good on phones. and iCloud storage is cheap nowadays, and although u say say compression is getting better in a smaller amount of space, that undermines the fact people still need local storage to store video files and photos....

Cloud storage may overtake in parts, but i doubt it.... because we want it to be local in all cases still.

heh, i think opposite.

i think AR is going to make a clear line that we just can't see right now.. but in, say, 20 years from now, the line will be visible and most everything pre-AR is going to appear old-fashioned..

the dam will burst once someone figures out a way to make the public accept computerized glasses.. or maybe someone develops computerized contact lenses.. or some other form of allowing our reality as we see with our own eyes to be digitally augmented.. (as opposed to experiencing it through a small handheld screen.. which, to me, will likely be less socially acceptable than glasses.. once people start walking down the street with their phones stiff-armed/directly out in front of them.. and navigating this way.. people are going to be like "DUDE! just put the glasses on already.. you'll look less lame than what you have going on now" ;) )

Dear Macrumors - so I am sitting with my 8 year old son showing him how many people plan to get the iPhone X vs 8 Plus. He stops and stares at the pie chart and then says the numbers add up to 101%...I didn’t believe him so we added the numbers three times and then used a calculator. The numbers do add up to 101%!!

On a separate note, I wish the X was going to come with 512GB. But, I still have my 256GB 6 Plus. I am close to running out of space after all those years.

We take photos and video. You don't use your camera at all, sure... but you're in the minority.

4K video = 375mb / minute @ 30fps. The iPhoneX shoots 4K at 60fps, so 750mb/second... which starts to underline how ridiculous 64gb is. Don't you have kids, friends, loved ones? You've seriously never taken more than 5 minutes of video, ever?

What the hell is that for douchebag reply? Some people actually offload their pictures to the cloud or home pc on a regular basis. And not everyone needs to shoot video at 4K60fps.

Speak for yourself, I want the technology used to enable a 4" screen in a case that's smaller. If you want a 4.7" display, buy an iPhone 8.

Also, I wish there was a way to have "local" iCloud - So you have your music library on your computer/HomePod/iPod touch/something with 512GB of storage at home, constantly on the internet - Enabling you to store your library at home and carry a 16GB device around day to day. Kind of like an SD card but... streamed.

You're describing iTunes Match, like, verbatim
