Why don't you use "Do not disturb"? It seems just what you need - phone can stay screen up, but won't make a noise or light up the screen. You can enable it automatically with a predefined schedule, or manually. And, with DnD, there is a possibility to still allow ringer for some select people or by repeated calls from one.

Yep.... I use DND between 23:00 and 06:00. I created a group called "DND Allowed" and added important numbers to this and allow this group to "break through" DND.

I still think there is a need for "Profiles" like back in the Nokia days, to allow quick switching of settings for when in meetings etc etc.

The cynic in me says this is the reason the X ain't coming in 128GB. 4K "All teh Things" and offer two tiers of storage: not enough and the one we want you to buy. That's the cynic in me. The idealist in me says the cynic in me is right.:)

24% of the surveyed are opting for 7/7+. I'm getting two 7's so I'm in group.

Marketing 101. They definitely do it for that reason, cynic.

Unusually high 46% of people interested in fake wireless charging that requires a wire.
Once you start using QI wireless charging your opinion will change. We have them in conference rooms at my company and it's really convenient to just sit your phone down on the pad. It's also nice having one next to the bed so you just drop your phone on it.

It's really annoying the choice is between 64GB and 256GB. I know 128GB is about the sweet spot for me, my current iPhone 6 Plus is full of movies and TV shows that I never watch and I still have plenty of free space but equally 64GB is just a bit too restrictive. So it will be a 256GB model for me too!

Shame we lost the option of 128. That's my (and many, I suspect) perfect storage size.
now you're forced to pay the upgrade fee b/c 64gb is not enough. I would have paid $100 for 128, but instead I had to pay $150 for 256GB. Apple made an extra $50 off me that they wouldn't have otherwise got. Additionally they have fewer variations of the phone to make now.

I don't get it. The iPhone X has two standout features from the iPhone 8, facial recognition and attractive design. Yet when people are asked what they like most about the iPhone X they say wireless charging, a feature shared with the 8? Just get the 8 and save the money if wireless charging is what you're after.

Where have you been? Apple products have always been high priced.
My last apple phones were $300 and $99 (I did buy though ATT and Cricket respectively with incentives). Since there are no incentives anymore they phones seem crazy expensive to a lot of people which I fully agree with. $1k+ out of pocket for a phone is a lot of money.

What I found interesting is that 36% of those surveyed are not interested in Apple's latest iPhones. I wonder how that compares to prior years. That's a large percentage of customers staying with the older tech.

Another article referencing average sale price increasing. Keep in mind that profit margin and total profit are the important numbers and that both are lower on the iPhone X than the iPhone 8 line as COGS are significantly higher on the X.

Apple also hasn't really had an increase in overall company profit margins (<20% after taxes). Different Apple products and services have higher profit margins than others but iPhones are Apple's most important profit category. Unless Apple raised prices elsewhere, Apple at best could reduce the selling point of iPhones by 20%. That would make the iPhone X about $800. Of course calculations are much more complex but that is about Apple's breakeven point for the iPhone category (if you wiped out iPhone profits, Apple's net quarterly profit would decrease about 57%). Apple could essentially wipe out all company profits (and absolutely destroy their stock) by selling iPhones for about 35% less (they'd sell more, probably, but wouldn't have as much money to invest in R&D and other things); $650 for an iPhone X is still a lot of money for people, but much more reasonable. It only happens to come at the cost of essentially ending Apple as a company.

Of course...why does the 64GB model even exist on a phone that costs 1K?
It's bull crap that Apple even makes that an offering. Such a technically advanced phone, that costs over $1,000 with only 64gb is an absolute joke. To me it's the equivalent of Ferrari putting a 115HP motor in the base model of their Enzo.

Are videos shot on the iPhone kept in iCloud or on the phone itself? I use iCloud Photo Library.
you can choose if your photos/videos are stored on the phone or in iCloud only. its in the settings. There is also an option for optimizing for phone vs storing originals.

People will use it for a month and realize how pointless it is. Although, let me take that back. On any other phone it's pointless. But considering it'll be the only way you can listen to music and charge your phone at the same time - if you use the lightning port...

Thats not the only way to listen and charge at the same time, you forgot bluetooth headphones.

The fact that wireless charging is cited as main factor in wanting an X makes zero sense given 8/8Plus have this feature also. Logically the main feature for wanting an X would have to be something exclusive to it (e.g. screen).

This very fact makes me question the validity of this survey period.

Also, as I always say......... people like most of us here on these forums are the least reliable source for demand predictions/stats. In the scheme of the hundreds of millions of iPhones that are sold, we are in the minority (wanting every new device on launch) and so have a skewed opinion. Majority of people wont pre-order minute orders go live, and likewise wont care if they have auto wait a few weeks to get the phone.

I guess for people who only use their iPhones as their only "computer" its not that much, but for us still in the digital hub world, we still have a "home base" computer to download all our photos and videos and files, so we don't need that much storage. 64gb is quite a lot!

What do you do with 256GB of storage? My iPhone 6 w/ 64GB is only 65% full and I could cut it down easily if I needed to. I'm genuinely curious as I can't figure out why people need so much storage.

my itunes library is around 80gb

256gb i can sync it once to my phone and still have more than 128GB for apps and videos

No, I didn't forget bluetooth headphones. I specifically said for people who want to listen using their lightening port.

64gb is not a lot for the following reason:
-storage is cheap as heck (this is simply a money grab for apple)
-HD video takes up a ton of room on your phone
-4k video takes up even more
-photos (especially live photos) are bigger than ever
-downloading to a "homebase" is inconvenient for most
-Apple competitors offer expandable storage
-Going from 64gb to 256gb probably only costs Apple $5...if that considering they will achieve better economies of scale from only offering one device.

They dissed it when it was an android-only thing. Now that apple has it, it's the greatest thing on the planet as far as they're concerned.

This all seems rushed and ham fisted. One would FIGURE that idea Apple didn't introduce "wireless charging" yet was because of some super secret OP to get it where you didn't have to set it on a pad and could just enter places and boom your phone charges. Now that we see that didn't transpire, what in the world were they thinking not having this feature for years and years?

Sure, but you didn't also get the option of the $300 StarTAC that does most of the same thing.

What's an X do that a 6 doesn't? It does things a bit faster, takes photos that are a bit better, the display is a bit crisper sure, but in terms of outright function, what does it do that a much cheaper phone doesn't?

In the StarTAC days you didn't really have a choice... It was cutting edge, with a price to match. The X is also cutting edge, but it's not... so much of a functionality breakthrough if that makes sense

I addressed that in my post. What does a $60,000 BMW do that a $35,000 Toyota doesn't? What does a $500,000 home do that a $280,000 home doesn't? The car analogy is better than the home analogy. There were cheaper phone options when the StarTAC was released (e.g., Nokia 2110). You can still buy a cheaper new iPhone: SE, 6s, etc. instead of the X (which I won't buy because my iPhone 7 is more than enough for me right now).

I have Optimize iPhone Storage checked off so I am assuming that's all I need to do. Looks like 64GB should be fine for me.

I wish they offered a 32 GB version for $899. I don't need more storage than that.

So.................. everyone is ignoring the fact that with iPhone 8/8+ sales being less than iPhone 6 Sales, the survey suggests that the iPhone X will sell even less than 8/8+ combined?

Wireless charging most popular feature??? That's the biggest joke.

There are companies out there where you can charge a device without having to lay it on a charging pad. Now THAT would be attractive.

To set a phone on a pad to charge is the dumbest feature. How many times do you use your phone while it's charging? You can't do that with "wireless charging".

IMO the display (high PPI for VR), AR capabilities, thin bezels, and camera are the reason to buy this.

I wonder what they use that storage for. I use a 32 GB iPhone with 15 GB free. Spotify takes care of Music, YouTub & Netflix - of Movies and Google Photos - of photo and video library. Plus I have some audio books and offline maps.
