Gaming laptop? Nah? Oh, that's when you can't afford what you want, so you "want" what you can (or still can't) afford.

Gaming desktop (PC\Windows) insanely powerful, can be used as workstation too, OR\AND console or some or them, AND on-the-go notebook (or just tablet, or some of them) based on actual mobile needs.
Alternatively (really advanced, and works only for lucky ones) cloud\virtual desktop - even dumb chromebook or atom works as Cray.

"All-In-One" that's about toilet, not notebook.

Mac OS X has never been a gaming platform outside of educational titles, and even those are gone now. It is what it is.
Yeah, imo Apple is not even targeting the gamers segment at all. They’re targeting the majority of computer users, which are just regular users, people who will either use their phones or Nintendo Switch for gaming. The hardcore gaming segment who cares about a percentage of FPS improvement is quite niche.

That chart doesn’t show apple vs intel it shows AMD vs nVidia, and for the record intel is claiming nVidia’s victory as their own. The really sad thing… this is how far Intel has fallen
I bet there’s a bit more nuance there but, yeah, that’s kinda what I thought.

This campaign is kind of bizarre. Macs have sucked for gaming for years and years, no one buys one specifically to play games. They sucked when they had Intel chips too lol

Pretty stupid comparison tbh. The Mac it is comparing to has Intel 9th Gen, and AMD 5600M. Even so, nowadays we have several cloud gaming options available; Xbox Cloud Gaming (currently Beta on Mac), GeForce Now (probably the best for Mac until Xbox get their service properly running) and Stadia to say the few options.

Games being not available on MacOS is not really Apple's fault. PC does have way more market share compared to Mac. It doesn't make much sense to developers to make a Mac version to cater for probably less than 1% of its player. Now that Apple Silicon bridges the gap between iOS and MacOS, more developers would be interested to make games for the platform.

Of course we won't see latest AAA titles on the MacOS soon, but if the market share raises to profitable target users then those bigger developers would definitely try to work on that.

A Mac might be *decent* (and I use that term very loosely) at some titles, but will never be able to measure up to a dedicated gaming rig when it comes to raw performance and other metrics.
True but, likely much to Apple’s chagrin, no one really ever buys a Mac for gamin. Furthermore, it looks like Apple’s kind of bought into that, as it seems like each successive year the ability to upgrade most Macs beyond a basic set of options is more and more limited.

That be like Apple saying the iPhone 12 has more apps than the Galaxy Note+. I think the issue is having the games on the platform (MacOS) vs it’s performance. People’s performance on games will always vary depending on their hardware. Maybe that’s why Apple is pushing Apple Arcade, they just need to buy a AAA developer to make dedicated games for them.

That’s the funny part. It’s like intel discrediting themselves and supported Apple’s decision to ditch intel. Hilarious. I really wonder who’s the marketing people at intel.

Because PC has full range of price and has more market share more game are going to be available to that makert. Macs had premium price for the same level of specs. Less people are going buy so less games are going to be in the market. But this is now in past and the future is unsure.

This is why you buy a Mac and an XBox Series X or PS5. I agree with those who find it funny that Intel is trying to take credit for what Windows and Nvidia or AMD accomplished.

What a waste of an ad campaign. The vast majority of PC gamers were never considering Mac for their gaming needs at all. So what is the point here?

To use the inevitable car analogy, this is kind of like Ford throwing shade at Ferrari's pickup truck lineup.

PCs are much better than gaming than a Mac. That is something that can't be denied.

However, my preference would be AMD, not Intel! Certainly not consoles - Ugh.

That's what I was thinking. Why target Apple rather than AMD? That's their direct competitor in the PC gaming space.

Gaming for me is suppose to be something to relax and enjoy... that conflicts with a using Windows.
I have no idea how anyone can tolerate Microsoft software. Jesus, I only used Edge on my M1 MBA because I don't want to use Chrome but it pushes updates almost daily. 😳 I swear every time I open it it always greets me with update notifications grrr....

It's just that developers aren't putting the effort into porting their titles to Metal & Apple Silicon. It's still a relatively niche platform. Hopefully this will change over time.
I remember this being said when Apple changed to Intel... and nothing changed.

It's not going to change with Apple Silicon either.

Apple’s big problem has been their come-and-go attitude toward non-casual games. No developer is going to dedicate the bucks for an AAA conversion if Apple has a history of pulling the rug out from under them.

Throw in Metal, and unless you’re using one of the big engines that can handle it, it’s just not worth it. Vulkan support requires an open-source layer that was only open-sourced by Steam because Gabe Newell was trying to save Apple from itself.

I’ve got an old gaming PC with a GTX 1060 -- not a barnburner, but still, that’s where the games are.

This is a really awkward comparison for Intel to take. They are not showing Apple M1-based MacBook Pro versus a Intel-based laptop. They are showing the Intel-based MacBook Pro versus a Intel-based laptop.

So they are just showing how this new Intel CPU is better compared to their old Intel CPU. They are not even comparing it to the Apple M1. And they are comparing a system running AMD Radeon Pro 5600M versus a system running NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. These numbers are most likely not being limited by the CPU to begin with.

So we have two different systems. Running different CPU, GPU and it's running in different chassis so we have no idea about thermal performance. How does this comparison make any sense?

All I'm getting from this is that Intel does not want to be comparing themselves with that Apple M1 so they are trying to trash their own Intel Core i9 9980HK and is hoping that no one is looking at the details at hand?

So bottom line is
for kids and their games, buy Intel if you want to run hot for your babes
for adults buy macs and run cold like Intels hearts

The gaming issue is not really a hardware issue but rather a software one. Developers don't make it for the Mac and have stopped altogether because the Mac versions of the same games are ports and don't run natively.

Can't have a good gaming experience when everything is build in Microsoft land and Mac is an afterthought.

Gamers also carry brand identity not because they are loyal but because they made it part of their identity with team blue vs red. If they break away from that the rest of the group also forces them out.

Less logic and more tribal. So for gamers this kind of marketing tactic works for them. Until developers start taking the Mac seriously and build natively I don't see this changing.

Apple and Sony should team up as it would help them both.
