It seems like many of the comments criticizing these "leaks" desire the new iPhone to resemble some of the higher end android phones. Why is that? Let's be honest there is only so many ways the candy bar form factor can look. My brothers vision of the perfect phone is one powered by friendship. I don't know exactly what that looks like but I digress. Apple did not invent the mp3 player, but what they do well is user interfaces and the ecosystems they are used in.
I will be the very last one to cry doom and gloom, or say that Apple will be the next RIM, but what I know for sure is that the new iPhone will be an evolution in design and function. They could throw in some awesome sauce like a new battery technology or something else I have not thought of. Who knows, 5 years from now we may be waxing poetically about in the old days people held phones in their hands!
I mean, I'm holing and S3 right here and I prefer the overall size of the 4S and I find this thing to be too big.
That said, it is incredibly light and thin and the power button is on the side, making turning it on easier since its so large. I will also say that after a while, you get used to it and certain things look better on it such as videos.
When I use my wife's iPhone 4S it feels very small, but in a good way. Also, the screen is so much better on the 4S I can just hold it closer with no eyestrain and no pentile obviously.
I think if you really want to get into an argument about a large Android screen versus the iPhone 4S you really should talk about the HTC One X, the Sony Xperia S / The HTC Rezound the former being a clear winner against the iPhone 4S screen. It's not the end of the world of course in any of these screens and its something we first worlders can live with. However, as a cell phone, a semi-fragile communications and gaming device in my pocket at all times, the iPhone is a better form factor than the S3 for me.
So.. I don't believe anything until the Apple Press event.
If it's simply a shell (parts) and NOT a working prototype thay wouldn't need the FCC qualifiers. Not saying it's real, simply saying you don't have a clue. Gizmos's prototype WAS a working phone so it had to have the FCC qulifiers.
I had the Galaxy S3 & the Galaxy Nexus since launch day and just sold them to move back to iPhone 4S....HUGE relief for me. I really tried to give android a real go, wondering what in the world the fuss was about and I get it now... Many people don't really see or "feel" the difference.

I'm talking about the tech. And yes, a lot of people come here thinking its a fan club. I like Apple but feel let down a lot of the time.
Please come back with some relevant news and not just a hissy fit because I don't look at Apple products like a religion or a sports team.

I just cannot understand people would go for this design. It's so darn boring and 'the same'. It still has that annoying home button. Be more creative with this thing. It has potential.
How did I make it personal? You're speaking for an entire group of people from a very limited sampling of actual iPhone owners. If you don't call that arrogance what would you call it?
Do you think every part that is ever made is a working part destined to be part of a working device? Again, not saying this is the actual design as I have no clue. Even if it is an actual part that was meant to be a working device, laser engraving can be done at any point of the manufacturing process.

I think you are well covered. That's been the holdup on 4G; Apple would never sacrifice battery life for speed (besides 4G not being as rolled out that much). The battery issues that were reported a few months ago were about sufficient supply yields meeting Apple's standards from a particular supplier. With over 117 billion in the bank, Apple has the coin to quickly find someone else.
This is the most anticipated (and, therefore, scrutinized) phone release of the year. They are not going jeopardize it.
I have no doubt that the new iphone will be the largest selling iphone in history. People buy it because it has apple printed onto it. Apple could relabel the 4S as the new iphone and people would still buy it. But that is besides the point, it's still a disappointment if it really is an elongated 4S.
Plus, it'd be interesting to see how much the battery life gets nerfed with Apple sticking a quad core into what is basically the same size shell as the 4S.
I see what you're saying but that's not really Apple's style. It's far to military grade for them to make. Besides, I would prefer they didn't.
I don't understand the need for cases. I've had the 3G and 4 and I only put a case on my 4 eighteen months after I bought it because I wanted a cool design, not really because I felt it needed protection. As long as you're a little careful with it, iPhone's are pretty rugged!

I like the slim design (will go nicely with my macbook pro retina), also the camera in the middle and the dotted speaker vents are very reminiscent of the iMac. However the iPhone 4 white and black glass back was by far a more elegant and sexier phone even better than that of the 3Gs plastic behind. This new design seems to be a hybrid of the first gen iPhone with a radical two tone colour.
Don't get me wrong I'am getting this phone when it comes out however I'am still keeping my iPhone 4.

The design is okay. The OS will look like it has since the original iPhone. My hope is that they bump the RAM to 2GB and put in a quad core processor. I think still think for 'some' people it will be difficult to distinguish those who are using an iPhone 5 without having to take a second look.
I agree. Does not seem like an Apple design, at least from the photos.
However, I've seen early, bad photos of Apple products before and, once I saw the product in person, changed my mind.

It's been reported that the new iphone will be using the A6 Quad Core, which is basically the Exynos series from Samsung (the same one used in the S3). Since the new iphone won't have space for a bigger battery, will be interesting to see how the battery life will be affected.
This is just a stupid comparison. The reason we're not walking around with a 'brick' is because the internals (battery, etc.) changed to allow smaller designs. They didn't change the design because they suddenly thought the brick was ugly, they changed the design because they had too.
The porsche 911 is beautiful, and nothing has changed that would need another design.
Even the fact that you would compare the motorola brick to an iphone's design is moronic. There is NO reason for Apple to change the design, except that it gets smaller. The 911 comparison is a very valid one. If porsche changed it, it would be simply for 'change'. But they know that would be stupid, and so would Apple's decision to change their design, unless there was a reason to do so.
Difference between you and the 500 others is they were speaking for themselves, you were for all as I pointed out in a post a few above this one.

This is so un-Apple to me. They would not be that disproportional in their design. I'm sure it will be wider, and that these 'leaks' are throwing everyone for a ride. I also do not dig the two-tone back. I will eat my words if this is what comes out in the fall.
