I was one of those readers who said this design (a stretched iPhone 4 with two-toned back) wasn't going to happen when I saw the very first rendered mockup. But I think we've seen too much evidence now that this is it. Apple have truly done an amazing smoke-and-mirrors act if this proves to be false
but I doubt it. With all those recently released photos of old Apple prototypes, we can see that Apple's designers have indeed toyed around with variations of that two-toned back for longer than any of us realised, so it's not without precedent.
The two-toned back never appealed to me aesthetically, but as I've said before, if it's more durable than the 4's cheap (non-Gorilla) glass back, with reception at least as good (or hopefully improved), then I'll take that over aesthetics. The longer screen doesn't bother me, and I'm glad to see Apple not bowing to the pressure of the adolescent 'my phone is bigger than your phone' brigade. The width is right for a phone.
