The 10.5 packaging is the size of a standard CD case. This "new" packaging would see the format moving to a DVD-case format, which shows no benefits whatsoever.

LOL, ever heard of perspective? Looked at a macbook pro? Seen that that box is open?

Hardware acceleration is not up to Apple. It's up to Nvidia. All nvidia driver code is closed and they write all the drivers for Linux/Win/Mac. If they don't ship VDPAU for mac, we won't get hardware acceleration through dedicated GPU. Simple as that.

Same with outdated Open GL. Although advantages of 3.0 includes several types of FP16/FP32 data handling support, vertex/texture arrays, and some framebuffer optimizations. All in all, nothing to get excited about.

Sorry, but everything I've ever read states that Apple writes all their own drivers for Nvidia cards, not Nvidia or we probably would get decent driver support (I have read that ATI at least used to provide some drivers to Apple; certainly my ATI 9800 Pro for my PowerMac had at least some 3rd party support, but although I think the core driver may still be from Apple as I did not need that extra preference panel to get full Core Image or Quartz Extreme support. None of that accelerates video decoding, though and OpenGL support is Apple's business to support.

Apple's OS X code is what is closed. If they won't provide proper operating system hooks for hardware support, no application providers can provide hardware support in their media software either. Look at XBMC. They cannot provide any kind of hardware accelerated playback for OS X. They do have hardware playback support for Linux and are working on DirectX support, but they have zero options in OS X because Apple won't provide any support or information. Apparently, Apple has provided H264 MP4 accelerated playback for their latest Nvidia chips, but have shown no interest thus far in writing updated drivers for the previous GPUs that they've used, including ones sold less than a year ago (e.g. my own 8600M GT). But even if they did, it wouldn't get support from any software other than Apple's own if they don't provide the operating system hooks/information for other developers. This is where DirectX shines for Microsoft. It's not hard for anyone to have full accelerated playback in Windows and Nvidia and ATI provide their own drivers (with the latest features for all their own products). Sometimes this secretive atmosphere at Apple is a MAJOR MAJOR negative to their "most advanced operating system".

Apple has licensed Exchange support from Microsoft to improve the operating systems' compatibility for business use. In a similar manner, they should license DirectX from Microsoft to improve their video performance. OpenGL has fallen far behind DirectX and Direct3D for performance. It's one of the reasons Cider translations are so much slower than the PC originals. Either that or Apple could take a leading roll in furthering OpenGL's development to be on par with DirectX. Apple doesn't appear interested because it's not really interested in supporting gaming on OS X or apparently even advanced video use or they would not only support hardware acceleration for video but license Blu-Ray as well. My point is you cannot/should not make claims about being the most advanced home operating system on Earth if you don't even have the most basic OS support for things that Windows have had for years and years like hardware GPU video decoding.

FAIL

I just /facepalm'd so hard I think I broke my nose. Having said that, we really don't need anymore Skils in here, this IS the legit packaging.

What?

Why would you have learned anything about colour psychology in your sophomore physiology class? For the sake of humanity, please don't breed.

This was back in Spring 2006. High school physiology. We learned some prety intense stuff. not as much as you would at a college level, but you know

yeah. schools have long past the standard "reading, writing and math" now there are selective courses like physiology, digital photography, etc

He's asking why you would be learning psychology in a physiology course.

It's gotta be real because the box art reveals more of the photo of the leopard and unless the person who leaked these photos has a full (non-cropped) image of the leopard, it's real.

The Image of the Snow Leopard is available as full sized wallpaper in 10A432. The install icon when you insert the DVD is the one I posted earlier.

FYI: 10A432 is NOT the GM. I've been told this by very reliable sources at Apple.

I don't get it... Why would Apple make this release a full image? Why would they make a full release if they would have to do it again two weeks later for the GM? If it were me, this would have been a seed update done via Software Update and then release the GM as a full DMG like the latest one.

Overall seems rather wasteful.

A full image can eliminate the possibility of bugs caused by an update package gone awry.

So they do a whole image that is not going to be a GM? That just seems wasteful if there are, as people are saying, a couple more builds.

EDIT: I am not saying that the GM should be based on an update seed that should be released from SU, it just seems to me that if they are going to make a full image, it would be declared the GM either when built or shortly thereafter. If this is not the GM, than the real GM is going to have to be a full build anyway.

I will make a thread dedicated specially to you and your post when SL is out.

Given that the leopard photo was officially included in a developer version and the amount of detail with no factual errors (besides oddities like a plastic sleeve and slightly odd package design) gives this leak high believability. The brochure looks legit too. My best guess is Apple is cutting down on the cost of packaging to make-up for the low price of $29. The Leopard (10.5) packaging was very expensive to produce (in terms of printing costs) but was offset by the high $129 price. So not using holographic packaging in millions of boxes equals a noticeable savings. So maybe they also saved money by using the plastic sleeves instead of the specially cut disc area in Leopard's packaging. Packaging is big money, so Apple is going simpler (less expensive) with theirs and it is also consistent with the market trend of plainer packaging during recessions.

High School and Collage

We had Physiology in high screen, and we covered a lot of topics including how colors effect people. Power of suggestion stuff like that.

My Physic class in collage more in to it. We covered how and why people get depressed, living with depression and, what are some of the drugs that where being prescribed at the time (and their effects). There was other things we got in deep, but that's for another thread.

Looks pretty fake to me. MAC OS and utility disks have been white text of gray for years. They look convincing and professional, but also fake.

I'm not sure how many of you are actually using 10A432. If you are then you will notice:

1 - Some languages have not been added to this build yet.

2 - Other languages like French are not complete.

3 - QTX has NO PREFERENCES. You cant even auto play a .mov file.

4 - The intro video is still that of Leopard.

5 - Install does not default into 64bit installations on 64bit compatible machines.

6 - This build is less stable than the previous build 10A421. I have been using it for a week now. I get more spinning beach-balls, system freezes, and more KP than I did with 10A421.

Why did they do a whole new DMG for this build? Because the previous two builds were available via software update. They wanted to test a full install on this build 10A432, not an update via software update.

The fact is that Snow Leopard build 10A432 is not finished, or stable enough to be GM.

For 10.5, they announced on Tuesday Oct 16th (store went down early am) for sale on Oct 26th.

There are rumours of an 8/28 date, so the logical conclusion would be that they would announce tomorrow, if not, Wednesday.

I see hopefully we'll hear very soon!
