I know I sometimes have a knack for the obvious, but the email says "10.5.6 LEOPARD", not 10.6 Snow Leopard.

edit: wow - I'm slow on the trigger tonight ;)

Better than fast on the trigger. The names are close, and the version numbers 10.6 vs 10.5.6 aren't too different either. Oh well!

That's the final box alright and yes it's also the art work on the DVD. BUT, it's not the final release of the OS. There's still a few extra builds to go...

It's an empty disc in the photo, it is only the promo disc and box, the actual content on the disc isn't on it.

absolute.pure.speculation (just like the rest of you jokers...)

I have to concur here. Leopard had all the shiny new features. Snow Leopard is... underwhelming. Of course, a year from now when all apps start building on top of the APIs that Snow Leopard gives developers, that's when it will really be amazing.

For now, probably the few new noticable features are that the Grid view for Stacks is actually worth using now and Microsoft Exchange support (assuming your Exchange server is Exchange Server 2007 with Update Rollup 4 installed).

And iTunes still isn't 64-bit. =/

If game developers decide to go with the Mac platform with SL, imagine how great the games would be.

I too think Apple could have done something a lot more special than a copy paste of a snow leopard on the box...

Ahh, damn it... Apple has changed so much since Steve chose to be absent. :(

They've got the right idea but it needs to be flashier. Regardless I'm looking forward to the actual OS itself.

'chose'? You mean getting sick and almost dying was his idea?

Nonetheless, I completely agree that the box is underwhelming. It bothers me mostly because its right-heavy esp. after you add the text. I still really don't care. They could put a picture of a bar of soap on the cd and I'd still buy it. I'd also be interested to know how many mac users will be absolutely unaware of its release and NEED to be marketed to (not saying that demographic doesn't exist, but that demographic is probably the same demo. that doesn't care what's on the cover art)

They should just stick with the one that we've already seen so far.....

By the way, any 15 yr old with an inkjet can pull this off.

Apple needs something more then a dumb X to grab peoples attention in the store.

Porreiro pá

É só p dizer que acho muito porreiro serem os tugas a leak'arem isso :)

Ah e tal, porque é um gatinho branco... :p

The picture Apple used is ugly. Couldn't they have been more creative? I think it would be better if it was a side view of a lean-looking Snow Leopard with it's tail wrapped around something. Maybe a disk or some amazing feature.
OH MY GOD.

That is the trashiest idea yet.

A snow leopard with it's tail wrapped around something? What do snow leopards wrap their tails around?

Where do these people come from?

I'd venture to guess that this probably is real. Although I do think they could have spent a little more time working on Snow Leopard, especially since a lot of 64bit things aren't enabled properly.

For those that are saying that this can't be the design because apple has already posted images of the cd artwork note that before leopard was released the default desktop picture was grass and the background of advertised leopard logo was the green space origin of time machine. Not saying that this is the real artwork just that there is precedence of advertised artwork changing.

...

Umm still a bit suspicious, One has to be false information. All the references on the Apple WebSite still have the Aurora and Star Field. But the so called "Master" has a big cat. Could Apple be misleading the competition. Or did something internal actually happen? Its not like Apple to Overhaul something at the last minute.
Plus would the Wallpaper match the box like the 10.3 and below, the pattern of the X matched the Wallpaper. Tiger was just random.

Why does it need to grab peoples attention? Its not like people buy OSX as an impulse buy. If people buy software is because of the software not the box, especially with a major product like an OS.

No One cares bout the Packaging for Something like Mac OSX or Windows. It doesnt need to grab someone's attention. They dont compete on the Shelves like impulsive items do. They are a necessity, that can be in a brown box with some Advertising and it wouldnt make a difference.

I got charged $9.99 plus tax for the up to date version of Snow Leopard on Wednesday... at first I wondered, but now I think they're actually shipping the up to date disks early... however, I thought the latest build had a few problems/errors still???

I think they don't charge you for a product purchased and shipped until it gets packaged for shipping? Anyone know? Others of you get charged for your up to date Snow Leopard disks?

Since they changed the box art and disc art, I wonder what they're gonna do with the welcome video. Sure would be inviting to have a snow leopard growl at you after seeing welcome in all those languages.

They probably want to get it out for all the new goodies they're bringing out in September. New iPod Touch and Touch Nano, 3.1 iPhone OS, iTunes 9, and the Mac netbook tablet thingy.

Oh and one thing, the new AppleTV with plug-in to the App store (a.k.a. game central), larger hard disk capacities, and a blu-ray optical drive all for the same price in two lovely models.

Check this out...
No 64-Bit Kernal and Extensions.. what is with that.

I don't believe this is the GM after looking around a little more.
