Just one little thing.

All the text on the packaging is in Portugese, but the install DVD actually says 'install DVD' and install in portuguese is 'instale' so this seems odd. If you are going to make all your packaging in the native tongue of the country you are shipping to wouldn't you do the same for the disk inside?

Come on guys it's a box and a DVD:rolleyes:. I'm more worried about the work it can do rather than the picture thats on a disc that I will look @ once maybe twice. They could put a "cat turd" on it and I would not really care as long as it's OS X and, "it just works":D

if this is, in fact, the real packaging, then I'm a fan... then again, it's really what's on the inside that counts, so I really couldn't have cared less even if the packaging was less than exciting (besides- it'll likely go in my closet first thing after I open the box).

good grief, the same people griping about this photo are likely the same ones who griped about the new flip-up plastic packaging for the 2G iPod touch not being the same design as the old cardboard iPod boxes- it's just packaging guys, get a grip...

FYI guys the point of this topic is about the packaging, not about the product it self. ;)

I will be disappointed if Steve doesn't actually walk out onto stage with an actual snow leapard, on a leash. :apple:

Now THAT will be more intresting then some man running out yelling at us and getting all sweaty.

That's the final box alright and yes it's also the art work on the DVD. BUT, it's not the final release of the OS. There's still a few extra builds to go...

It's an empty disc in the photo, it is only the promo disc and box, the actual content on the disc isn't on it.

I'm not really a fan of the new art...

But I'm not really convinced it is real though. I mean, Apple, which puts so much effort into design and making every single detail of every single one of their products as beautiful as possible, comes out with a new operating system called "Snow Leopard". And what do they put on this box? A picture of a snow leopard. Some of you are going "OMG how innovative!?? I LOVE IT!". Relax, it's just a cat with a boring white background. I think Apple can do a little better than this. Don't get me wrong, I like it... a little bit... but I really think the Leopard design was much much more visually appealing.

Also, every version of Mac OS X so far since Cheetah has featured a big "X" on their box with the rest of the design revolving around the X. It was really a signature piece of the design. Now, why would Apple completely overhaul the design on the box when they are making so few changes to the operating system? I understand how much more advanced it is... 64 bit, much faster/improved, yeah yeah.... But for the average user, as many of you are agreeing, will notice very few differences in Snow Leopard. In fact, some people may not notice any differences at all unless you point them out. So why would Apple completely change the box art and give the illusion that this operating system is so different than the last one when most of the improvements were "under the hood"?

And one more question: If this box/DVD is indeed real, why would Apple change the box art to get away from the space theme, but still leave the default background on the computer as it is in beta versions (look at the MacBook Pro on the back of the box)?

Package porn

FYI guys the point of this topic is about the packaging, not about the product it self. ;)

I must say I am always amazed at the attention Apple packaging gets on these forums...then the porn-like unpacking pics and videos...strange, but then, some people get off on stuffed animals, so to each his own. I must say, I am in the, "who cares about the packaging I care about the product" camp; but I would add that this packaging seems much more mature than the tacky space X packaging.

yeah my feeling this is hoax made by someone who obviously nicked or found the original of the icon image that was published earlier this week.
It simply dosn't fit with the branding Apple are using right now, and the fact that they have already advertised the box art on the apple website.

Anyone could have knocked this together in Illustrator, I say big fat hoax.

I like it! Simple, clean, different... I hope it comes out by the end of the month. :)

kind of off /on topic but i just had to say this:

It makes a bit of sense if SL is going to be released before the Keynote coming up. it is an IPOD event afterall.

if I recall, when Leopard was released, it was released in late September after the iPod event in that same year (if I'm wrong please someone correct me).

Product Name: MAC OS X 10.5.6 LEOPARD RETAIL-INT
Product Number: MC094Z/A

See the bit in bold? You ordered Leopard (the current OS on all new Macs), not Snow Leopard. The 10.5.6 is a dead give away, Snow Leopard is 10.6, not 10.5.

And even at that, the version of Leopard you ordered is very old - the current version is 10.5.8.

EDIT: Beaten x2!

Product Name: MAC OS X 10.5.6 LEOPARD RETAIL-INT
Product Number: MC094Z/A
Unit Price: $129.00
Qty: 1
Subtotal: $129.00
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I know I sometimes have a knack for the obvious, but the email says "10.5.6 LEOPARD", not 10.6 Snow Leopard.

edit: wow - I'm slow on the trigger tonight ;)

I think if you look closely, you'll see you ordered a retail copy of 10.5 Leopard, not Snow Leopard...

You are right - sheesh - embarassing to let the world point it out!

Cancelled that part of the order - the Product Name: MAC OS X10.6 SNOWLEOPARD UTD FULLFIL-INT is at least ordered right!

I just ordered a 15" MacBook Pro, so I placed my order for Snow Leopard with the Up To Date deal. My order status says "Ships: September"

I will be disappointed if Steve doesn't actually walk out onto stage with an actual snow leapard, on a leash. :apple:

With a Winblows 7 box in its mouth. Interesting idea. Might not be in keeping with Apples "green" or environmentally-friendly image, though. An animal like that on a leash and all. Might get PETA all riled up, LOL.

Of course, it won't happen, but it's fun trying to picture what it might be like.

I have to concur here. Leopard had all the shiny new features. Snow Leopard is... underwhelming. Of course, a year from now when all apps start building on top of the APIs that Snow Leopard gives developers, that's when it will really be amazing.

For now, probably the few new noticable features are that the Grid view for Stacks is actually worth using now and Microsoft Exchange support (assuming your Exchange server is Exchange Server 2007 with Update Rollup 4 installed).

And iTunes still isn't 64-bit. =/
I installed the purported RTM build on a spare drive to test it out. What I found is that it feels almost the same as 10.5 except there are a few new "features" that I'm not too crazy about:

- Quicksilver doesn't work properly: the prefernces dialog doesn't always show.

- Steermouse doesn't recognize my Bluetooth mouse.

- Little Snitch doesn't work.

- A few graphic glitches when waking up from sleep make the screen illegible until some application repaints the screen.

- Spaces and Exposé don't animate as smoothly as before.

I wonder how many other apps will also be incompatible. I remember all the glitches and problems with applications (such as numerous CS3 crashes) when Leopard first came out. Only now is 10.5 finally getting as stable as Tiger was near its end. Let's just say, this time I will wait much longer before I install the new OS X on my production system.
