No One cares bout the Packaging for Something like Mac OSX or Windows. It doesnt need to grab someone's attention. They dont compete on the Shelves like impulsive items do. They are a necessity, that can be in a brown box with some Advertising and it wouldnt make a difference.

then why the need for this topic?

I wonder why they didn't use the disc/box art from the official OS X page. I mean, sure this isn't bad, but I really liked the starfield/"X" design.

My guess is that this is to differentiate it from the Leopard box/disc?

I seriously hope that this isn't the final cut. This is lame, very lame. Please Apple, use the box art that's displayed on your website.

Well like I said above, they might have done it to make it different from Leopard's box.

Considering 10.6 is intel-only, I think the Apple Stores may continue selling leopard, and if the boxes looked to much the same it'd cause issues.

I guess the Auroras do look similar, but not exactly the same. If your employees can't tell difference between boxes, then they got issues and should be fired.

It is a little weird that Apple's Snow Leopard website still says that it's a September release and contains so many pictures of the CD art featured at WWDC, but than again I've seen the installer icon first-hand as well, so who knows. But then again, the website also isn't very reliable in terms of updates to the operating system. For example, they're still using the old QuickTime X logo:

Check this out...
No 64-Bit Kernal and Extensions.. what is with that.

If your computer supports it, hold down 6 and 4 when booting. No desktops are defaulted to 64bit kernel.

Good point

You're missing the point.

I guess my Early 2009 Mac Mini doesn't support it then...?

Its in the current lineup...the final build better support my practically new computer.

If I were Apple, I would not want to make major visual changes to the packaging as this would lead buyers to expecting too much from the upgrade.

Its the package after all. It helps draw attention.

when we ditched Target Brand for Up & Up, a lot of people seem to be buying more Up & up then they did with Target brand. The packaging attracts people.

Hello All!

Maybe it's me, but I don't see what difference it makes what's on the disc or box or whatever. I'm not buying it for the artwork. And once I've upgraded to Snow Leopard, I seriously doubt I'll waste time pondering what the at should/not have been like.

Thats been discussed before, but keep in mind the topic is about the packaging and not whats on the inside.

Remember the topic title:

Photos of Snow Leopard Disc and Retail Packaging?

and don';t assume people will do that.
