Everyone saying they're not going to buy? Check.

Apple going to sell record numbers anyway? Check.

The reality that comments from a vocal minority don't reflect the real world? Priceless.

I said it when the removal of the headphone jack rumors started (and I say it again), I am not going to "upgrade" to a phone that makes it more difficult to use the several pairs of headphones/headsets I have. This was honestly just a poor decision -- I know there will be spin on their decision on why it's the best blah blah blah, but it's a no go for me--which is hard since I've been upgrading yearly for so many years now.

I _really_ don't want to go to android and I am not going to immediately, but I will i guess if the headphone jack never comes back :/

Guess will see. That said Apple don't seem expected they will sell crap loads judging by the orders they have projected

I used to like surprise of the announcement. Understand it's impossible with the supply chain ramp up, but kind of makes the announcements underwhelming.

The Note 7 isn't a "major" resdesign from the Note 5 (they skipped the "6" so that it's the same naming scheme as the iPhone 7, how ironic). The only thing that looks remotely good is the Iris scanner but it doesn't work with glasses and is a massive gimmick. Also, people are going to look right idiots when they're in a queue and they hold up their phone to pay using the Iris scanner.

I can't imagine a universe in which I care more about analog headphones than I do the smartphone that powers my daily life.

But what happens when a year after Apple removes the headphone jack, the flagship Android models all drop their headphone jacks?

I didn't realize that had been a problem, but makes sense. Imagine the complaints when a person watches a movie in landscape mode (is there any other way?), and the left and right audio both come out of the left side of the phone? A rocket flies of fun O the right side of the screen, and all the sound comes from the left side? Get ready for a new thread!

There were also some CAD renderings of the inside of the case showing those left indents not going all the way through -- so purely decorative. On the other hand, Aple might have some other purpose for them.

If there is a second speaker, it might go into stereo mode when the phone is held in portrait mode, and mono in landscape (or doing mono phone calls for added volume, etc.). But it would be ridiculous to get rid of the headphone jack for this purpose.

I'm hoping that it's some kind of inductive charging port, or other signal pass through.

Why would headphones come standard with Lightning plugs when not everyone will use them with Apple products? Headphones will be platform agnostic, and customers will buy whatever connection cable that best suits heir needs. And why do you assume nobody at Apple ever had the same thought that in doing this there would be no way to easily charge the iPhone while using headphones at the same time?

Why would that be an issue? There will likely be simple, unobtrusive, inexpensive, adapters to connect any set of headphones.

They aren't coming standard with lightning right now, and I don't honestly think they will in the future. My point was, that if the technology was solidifying into a standard I can sort of understand the move to remove the jack. And I know apple has "thought" of people trying to charge and talk on a wired headset at the same time. But they clearly give zero craps because they are removing the headphone jack and that option....

And if having a dongle makes your existing headphones sound better will you still complain?

So I guess you work for Apple and already know every single new feature that's inside the device?

It always amazes me how many people make their upgrade decision based on how much it looks like last year's model. We literally know nothing about this thing except it most likely looks similar to the 6s and most likely drops the headphone jack. But we have NO idea if there's "no reason to upgrade".

We more or less know what the hardware is going to be like, we know everything about the OS it will run, and that's 95% of what one needs to know about a phone. Sure, there will probably be one new feature which no iPhone before had, but I can't imagine it being something important enough to change people's minds.

iPhone 4 brought a new screen, 4S brought Siri, 5 a new form factor, 5S a fingerprint sensor, 6 a radically new design and 6S the 3D touch technology. They probably won't do anything new with the screen, because it's been updated on the 6S. The camera still has one lens, so we can't expect anything very different or new there...So it has to be a new software feature, and that probably won't be enough.

So you want a worse camera in exchange for your opinion of "better looks" on the back of the phone?

Got it. How lucky are we that people like this don't get jobs in this industry?

I mean, we do spend most our time looking at the back of the phone, right?!?

So with all the people on here saying they won't be upgrading, does that mean I will actually be able to pre-order one for release date, rather than having to wait until later because they have sold out of the first batch :D

How do you get that number? I have to switch to the next plan and probably going to do next 12 and pay it off and sell it in a year instead of turning it in.
The math is based on paying full price, which is basically next plan give or take. I thought i had the math right somewhere but actually i guess its $50 more to do it every year. So for 2 years, upgrading both years, -$650, resell value after 1st year +~$400, buy new phone -$650 sell at end of year two +~$400 at end of two years -$500. If you do every two years. Buy -$650 resell value at end of two years +~$200 so total -$450

You watch. Samsung's next phone will drop the headphone jack and so will Android's. You'll have no choice soon.

At the next Samsung event, the guy on stage will be heard saying "Guess what, we removed the headphone jack as you don't need it."

I always championed the fact on how apple works to make your life easier; however, lately it doesn't seem like that is all that important anymore. There is nothing easier about having to make sure to have dongles/adapters/whatever to make things work.

So if only like 5 people are going to get it does that mean I don't have to wake up at 2am to preorder? Cause I would be okay with that. Please, none of you get it. Or at least wait until after 6am to change your mind. I needs my beauty rest.

Thank you :apple:

That doesn't answer my question about the possibility of a small dongle making existing headphones sound BETTER...
I don't care either way I've used Bluetooth earbuds for 3 years now and never going Back
