It was a bad idea for a show. It bombed.
Another studio would’ve pulled the plug after the first episode. But Apple is still relatively new to this market. They would have been better off partnering with a major studio, and then branch off on their own.
Apple probably has trouble finding partners for any entertainment concepts. No one wants to help a potential competitor that has a lot of money available to become more successful.

blame everyone except yourself

Exactly. Biting his cheeks during meetings? Really? That tells me that he kept quiet when he should have spoken up. The guy appears to have the maturity level of a skunk.

I never saw the show and never really had any interest in watching it, but I don't recall EVER seeing it pop up on my phone or computer as a viewing option. That sounds a lot like a marketing error

Dear Gary V:

"Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners."

Go consult for Samsung. You'll fit right in.

I think Planet of the Apps was for a very niche demographic regardless of the marketing. It just seems “Un-Apple” like with this type of material, but I’m sure some find it amusing, but its not for me.

I don't think it was because of poor marketing or because of Apple. Looks like the concept just didn't work and maybe because you can only watch it on Apple devices.

You got to have more than just a clever title.

That is totally true, but in this case Apple agreed to fund a show with a horrible title and a not-great concept. Just thinking about the name right now just makes me cringe. I wonder what Apple exec signed off on agreeing to green light the show and the name - they're both just so bad.

I don't see Apple ever releasing break-out hits, the way that Netflix, Hulu and HBO have done year after year, mainly because Apple would have to be ok with shows that push the limits and that just seems to go against most of what Apple represents at this point.

The show failed because:

Gary Vaynerchuk is annoying. Nobody can figure out what he does or why he thinks he is the man. Whenever his videos come up on social media I just hit the 'Report' button and choose the 'Spam' or 'Scam' option.

Gwyneth Paltrow is privileged out-of-touch rich chick who used her fame to build a brand that defrauds women and encourages women to be stupid by selling complete quackery like Jade Eggs to strengthen their vaginas.

Same as above with Jessica Alba. So far this casting is a disaster and would offend most real entrepreneurs who had no fame and worked to the bone from poverty.

Then we add Will.I.Am to the mix. Overexposed, overrated, overpaid, and has an annoying name.

The only way this show could have been a bigger failure would be to add Ashton Kutcher to the mix.

That's exactly it. No more, no less.

It could have been a bad show, but then again, Tim Cook is the bean counter in the Apple family, not the advertising whiz or someone with the Reality Distortion Field capability. I wouldn't trust Tim Cook to sell even a good show well.

Never heard of it, but thought I'd give it a shot. Outside of America, that over the top crap doesn't work , and worse still put someone who thinks they're the gift for everything, then it's going to have a very, very short life.

Apple should stay out of media content in anyway, or be affiliated with it. There's nothing that has been touted as coming to Apple TV that I could care about.

The apps featured got front page placement in the App Store when this was on, but saying that I only now remember two of them. They had a link to go watch it on Apple Music, so it wasn't like they weren't at least trying...

More so than all the people blaming GV, this probably has more to do with not only this show but most of the programming that Apple is planning or doing. When you demand that shows only contain safe, non controversial topics then you are requiring them to be boring. This "All the Bland you can Stand" show philosophy might get a few ok shows like cooking or painting shows out of that mindset but for the most part your shows will be eminently forgettable. And any drama or comedy 'safe' show that gets popular will have a very short life, as too many things end up causing controversy.

It was a stupid idea even to try doing it the way they wanted. I could never be good, it's just off.
Wrong team, wrong stories, wrong concept.
And I always felt that the show was harmful to Apple, it's pure distraction with no benefits.

It should have been an intimate Docu-series on the most impactful apps on society and their stories of creation (ala Netflix's 'The Toys We Love').

Would have been a perfect homage to the App Store's 10-year impact on humanity.
