Then you’re not the target audience for the iPhone XS. That’s perfectly fine that you like an older iPhone 8, but what you’re really trying to say is, you can’t justify the price point for some of the latest technology, when others can. Again, it’s all preference and prerogative, which is what I think @Vermifuge was indicating why we choose based off what we appreciate.
You’re right the price for me is the problem, but not because I can’t afford it. With that in mind I think the current iPhones are vastly overpriced. I do think the XR is the best currently for what it offers though and it’s nothing to do with a lack of appreciation of technology. You got that bit very wrong as that contradicts my entire profession. I just feel I am very savvy with my money and iPhones are no longer high up my list of status buys.
Thanks! I can’t respond to every would be internet legal expert. 1. 2.

1. Nothing on the internet goes unpunished. Always an internet attorney wanting it to nitpick small details. 2. Also can’t beleave that every statement made on the internet requires numerous citations to prevent such commentary.
He quoted my response to you? What the hell has internet legal experts got to do with any of that? Apologies for being another minnow that you felt was beneath you and unworthy of your time for a response too. What a complex.

Apple is charging 200$ for inox steel case in Watch Series 4 but no one complains about it (and the only difference is the material, in a case much smaller than an iphone).
Why are we arguing that is charging 250$ for the same material change plus oled HDR, higher ppi, telephoto lens, 3D touch, ip68, gigabit, 4gb ram, etc in XS comparing to XR???

It shouldn’t even be a disagreement. The most expensive part of the phone is the screen and Samsung (being the only supplier for the x) has been increasing the cost of the screens at a pace faster than any other component in the iPhone.

This has resulted in leaner margins for apple and finding a 2nd supplier in LG likely won’t be enough. The RX is a response to these increases. A Well equipped phone with a cheaper screen. Honestly I think it’s amazing they still packed it with the a12. Very few sacrifices over the XS where Apple could have easily skimped.

Cause most probably buy the sport version and the watch is not as popular as an iPhone so less ppl to complain about it :)

Yep, iPhones are hugely popular whereas the Watch is still growing in popularity. More and more people I know are starting to get them but it’s always the sports aluminium version because let’s face it, with the AW they all look the same unless you’ve studied up on them and know there are different finishes. iPhones tend to be more of an essential everyday tool so gets compared a hell of a lot more.

This.

The whole debate on the XR right now falls into two equally ignorant camps - XR owners fanatically justifying their purchases and Apple naysayers using it to bash Apple’s business strategy (think Forbes).

I think it's more like XS buyers feeling bad for overspending and justifying THEIR purchase, haha. At least XR buyers got a nice discount for putting up with some minor limitations.

Imagine Apple wouldn’t have released XS models. Reviews would be laughing about Apple released a phone (XR) so inferior compared to the competition. However, XS max is considered by some tech pages like the best smartphone out there (for example high reputed What hi-fi).

Please open your eyes, iphone XR is a cheaper version and a very good one, but don’t try to convince people that the sacrifices are “very few”.

Let’s do a TV comparison. You can save 1000$ buying 65” led instead of oled version (33% of the price). Skimp oled is a little sacrifice, isn’t it?

Of course you think that. Makes total sense, save for the fact you omit that we don’t care what you think as we are too busy counting our money and using XRs as colourful coasters.

You couldn’t make this bizarre tribalism up. Well played Apple!

You seem a little triggered. All I’m saying is Apple had to cut the screen to make the iPhone more accessible. The OLED in the Xs / Max is a very expensive component. By eliminating it along with one camera apple was able to make a phone that was more competitive on price. Again, by no means cheap, just more affordable.

The XR has a very capable screen. It has as many design points as the XS Max. Resolution is acceptable (just as acceptable as the iPhone 8) and can display as much information as the Max.... many people will be happy with it. Those who aren’t will likely opt for a more expensive phone either from apple or another vendor.

Thing is, those who obsess about “da speks” (*spittle*) make up a very very small portion of buyers.

I find that often people with little money talk big. Lol. Go ahead and pretend like you’re filthy rich or are you Tim Cook defending yourself. Being able to buy some $1000-1500 phone doesn’t really mean you’re rich.

You’ve contradicted yourself because ‘the specs’ differences translate into key differences that people do notice - screen contrast, casing design, telephoto lens, RAM, water resistant rating etc. Like most engaged in this debate you choose to downplay these differences as just specs but to others they are key determinants of what to buy because they matter to them.

It was clearly a sarcastic joke.

The only one focussing on money here is you. You pose a great example of how ridiculous this debate is.

I’m pretty sure I said people will buy what matters to them. I can’t help it if you didn’t process that.

The funny thing is if you admit to buying a cheaper iPhone on here it’s assumed it’s because you can’t afford the most expensive option when in reality it’s about the concept of value for money individually. I’ve had cars that have cost me more than the price of an XS Max in repairs after an MOT before now lol. That felt about as pointless as paying over a grand for a mobile phone too I must admit!

I processed that, thank you. As I processed your comment on specs which is what I addressed.

Really not sure what your all fired up over. They are all good phones. If you don’t like the XR well.. why does it matter that much to you? People earn money and spend it how it makes them happy. Or they save it if that makes them happy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it’s just a phone...

I’m afraid no one is fired up over anything; this is a forum and I’ve posted to disagree with your specs point much as you posted to disagree with another point.

XR is much less good than Xs. Sorry

Apple are charging a premium for OLED in comparison to their competitors. However I made an informed decision to buy the max because I wanted the biggest display possible, I wanted a high resolution OLED display, a dual lens camera and 3D Touch.

I also wanted a gold phone.

So no I didn’t feel like I was getting ripped off. Some of us actually don’t want the Xr and are happy buying the Xs/max.
[doublepost=1540720306][/doublepost]
- The screen size seems very similar
- OLED is nicer, but functionally doesn’t add much
- I’m actually using 3D Touch more nowadays, so this is valid
- Undecided on this, but the XR camera seems great

Overall functionally these phones are all very similar

Why not sell your max and buy an Xr. You won’t be out of pocket.

The fact is Apple laid all their cards out on the table at the keynote in September. We all knew the Xr was coming and how much it would cost in relation to the Xs and max. So you had the choice to wait for the Xr or wait and see how it compared to the Xs. Also the phone is similar to pat years X so it’s not like people don’t know what the Xs will be like. The max is just a bigger version.

The XS is not £400 better though to many of us. I’m sure Facebook, Instagram, emails, and texts look comparatively similar on all these recent iPhones. Considering we have threads suggesting the XR screen is inferior because some tiny text is slightly blurry when viewed up closely I think it boils down to trying to find inferiorities rather than it being evident in use.

Since I tried a Samsung S4 Edge a few years ago, I have never wanted anything BUT an OLED display and Apple finally delivered with the X.

Then....they delivered again with the Xs MAX, a huge OLED screen with about as minimal a physical sized phone as you can have.

Do I feel ripped off? Hell no. I feel like Apple finally gave, me personally, the phone I had been waiting for since I had my first 6Plus. Is the price pretty damn high? Sure. But at the end of the day I look at this phone and feel like it is the first time I honestly can say I might keep my iPhone for more than one cycle.
Yes. I was fed up of having to put up with a 1080p LCD display for 3 years running on my plus phones when I’d come from Samsung OLED displays.

I like the XR for the same reasons I like my WRX. I could have spent more on the STI, but for the money I think I get a lot of bang for my buck with the WRX - I estimate the WRX at about 85% of the performance and fun of the STI. Same goes for the phone - like 85% of the XSM at $450 cheaper. So the device, like the car, is a win win for me.

The XR is a fun phone to use, has a lot of great features, and is the upgrade I have been looking for since the 6,7,8. This phone feels like a next gen phone to me, at a very reasonable (for apple) price. I get to stay in the walled garden of the apple ecosystem and enjoy a fun piece of new tech at a price that doesn’t make me feel bad inside. The car was the same solution for me - super fun, at a great price.

I’d like to live in a life where price isn’t an option, but it is for me unfortunately. Money I save here is money I can spend elsewhere on other things that add value to my life or the lives of my loved ones.

Not entirely true. There’s s very telling reason why Apple didn’t release all models at once

I do agree on #4. But you saw the keynote. You chose not to wait for the Xr but to spend big on the Xs(max). And now you're complaining for spending big where you could have saved a lot and pretty much get the same experience with the Xr. Hope you don't mind me saying but I think you were too impulsive. Lesson learned.

Amen. Some people do this and complain anyways. Like seriously nobody is forcing you to buy anything
