This doesn't make any sense, but like so much coming out of the White House and Congress, this looks more like a sellout of We The People, and a petty way to attack Obama, America's First Black President.

It must have burned the GOP to the core that a black man beat them TWICE in elections, and did so quite decidedly.

Which is also rather ironic, considering that Obama was largely a failure as a 'democrat' president. Wall Street ran over everything, and even though being 'black', and a minority, attention to those societal issues was muted to almost nonexistence. He did more for the .1% than his predecessor did, and the attacks on him never stopped. So now we have a 'reality TV president' who couldn't be more ignorant about how government should work, but is well versed in showering himself with money and adoration.

I weep for the future of this country. And I don't want to consider who would be next out of the GOP for president. They have lowered the bar so low, I wonder if there is *ANYONE* that would be unsuitable for candidate.

We will be sold, poisoned, threatened, further divided, goaded, harassed, beaten, imprisoned, used, by this administration and the people that hold the leash of congress and the president. People say this is 'Nixonian', but it's far more than 'Orwellian'...

Don't ask how much worse it's going to get. This isn't even his first 100 days! He's just getting started. In four years we won't recognize this country.

And his 'base' is going to take the worst of all of it. Fitting I suppose.
Yes, yes... The FCC commissioner, Ajit Pai asked congress to repeal the rules because Obama is black. lol

They were monitoring foreign targets. Apparently, some Trump officials were in communication, or the foreign national targets started talking about them. In such cases, it's completely the point of having an espionage service that the identities of these people were looked at. You know there's an FBI investigation going on about possible collusion by members of the Trump administration with the Russian hacking of our election. That's not a partisan issue. A foreign adversary screwed with our election. Are you patriotic?
They hacked our election?

Good, make it a level playing field, you can't discriminate against ISP's by not forcing the same laws and regulations onto Apple and Google etc. And let's not forget all your freemium apps that have been selling your data they've mined from you for years.

I think they should block all of them, but it's business and taxes that rule above anyone's rights.

Interesting comments.... but the way I understood this was that Google, Facebook and others already do this getting a blanket authorization from their users. Also, from what I understand the data collected by ISPs would be generic... not like they're installing spyware on your computer and recording key strokes. Lastly... the article makes a statement about your financial information and SSN number... how the hell are they going to do this as I would never input this data unless I have a secure connection. So that seems like a scare-bait statement.

Anyone who thinks what we do on-line now is private, just do a search for something stupid like a vacuum then sit back and watch all the vacuum ads appear on your browser.

This is so they can manipulate what you read and interact with even more. Bannon is behind this. None of you complaining will be doing so in two years because you'll have all been brainwashed by then, by your own devices.

How do you figure. The law was repealed this week. Therefore all previous weekends the law was intact. Next weekend the law will not be intact and his statement is perfectly logical. Your's on the other hand, isn't.

Because it was not set to go into effect until end of 2017.

From the article:
"For end users, the repeal of the law effectively maintains the status quo because it was not enacted before being shuttered"

Trump is your typical NewYork Hustler/Con-man. He could care less about the average american. His whole Whitehouse run was a money grab to enrich him and his donors.

It goes to show how Middle America is so gullible, and easy to con!
But, but, how will we go on if abortions are still legal???

So ignorance is bliss?

Many times. Awareness is one of the reasons why you can't compare now to 8 years ago.

A great watch back in 2011 - even more relevant now

It amuses me how Trump haters here say that dumb right wing people voted him in. The reality is that the democrats who thought Hillary would win are the biggest cry babies I've ever seen in my life and still can't accept the fact the Trump won. It's like grade school and someone took your lollypops away. Now you know why people call you snowflakes. You can't handle the notion that your "values" are not the values of most people.

Joy Reid, is that you?

This makes sense as soon as my broadband is free in the US. Telecoms are double dipping in this case and aren't even asking permission to disseminate data. All US residents should get VPN.

You can opt out of using Google, you can't choose to not have an Internet connection unless you want to be a hermit.

No. Very few people care that Hillary didn't win. They are now watching what Trump is doing and do not like it. I think you need to pay attention and remove your own bias there. Can you point to posters who are calling right wingers dumb?

If you want the biggest cry baby - look no further than Trump and some of his surrogates.

The left might have some sawdust in their eye, but members of the right have the 2x4 in theirs.

Your last point is amusing though. You realize Trump won the electoral vote - not the popular? I don't say that as a reason why Hillary should have won. You've seen the protest marches? Tell me again whose values has the majority?

Also - it's not a one issue scenario. The "same" values can cross party lines and often does.

IActually, I think the whole internet should be made much more secure than it is now, Https is a beginning but it should be made so that nobody can intercept and decode the data.

Nobody can intercept and decode https (that is unless they hacked into your computer, or into the server on the other end).

Has this administration done ANYTHING so far that is good for the common person, instead of enriching corporations and the wealthy?

Anything? It's distressing to see how completely in the pockets of big business they are. And the crazy thing is a lot of people who voted for Drumpf supposedly did so because they thought the *Democrats* were in the pockets of big business.

I mean, maybe they were a little bit, but nothing like this!!

One can only hope that at the end of this, there will have been a great, big, bright spotlight shone on the character of every last money-grubbing, self-centred yes-person who is decimating public well-being and that when democracy gets a chance again people will be forced to look past all the canned doublespeak to at least select the lesser of whatever evil may be on offer. Then maybe the healing can start.

Curious to know, at what point will 'using a VPN' be synonymous with 'evasion of law enforcement'?

As of right now, using a VPN is not illegal. But, I suspect any form of 'hiding' may soon be.

Also, we may want to consider that lawmakers must've known this repel would force many to use VPN services. Do you think they own stock in those companies? Or are they funneling traffic for another reason?

Very few people care that Hillary didn't win? Don't make me laugh. Have you seen all the videos of people crying after she lost? Cry rooms on college campuses, therapy dogs, protests, etc.

People claim to not like what Trump is doing only because they need someone to vilify. Since day one of his job, he has been working non stop to put EVERYTHING in place that he promised in his campaign. He could be ending world hunger war and the leftists would still find some way to bash him for it.

And enough with the popular vote claims. If it were reversed and Hillary won you'd be saying "You know Hillary won the electoral college right? The popular vote doesn't matter". Plus if you take into account all the votes that shouldn't have counted like dead people and non-citizens I don't think she necessarily did win the popular vote.

I want to believe you.

However, "absolute power...", and all that.

Less government regulation is always good. Conversely, you millennials will care nothing of Google collecting, tracking, and selling your data, right? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Unlike ISPs, if people don't like Google's policies, they have a choice not to use them. MOST of the US do not have a choice of broadband.

Obama just looked into people secretly. This is better and more open and honest about what's really going on. Unless you fall for the crap politicians say vs what they actually do.

I came here looking for what silly desperate way a Trump supporter would spin this disaster into a positive. Was not disappointed.

Yes less government regulations please. Would you like to eat at my completely unregulated restaurant? I promise you won't get violently ill, but if you do, tough ****

This thread is one of the best illustrations of why politics suck. People pick a team and become blind and just root of their team. I may have missed it, but these most important regulations ever were not enacted until 2015 and never enforced. If they were such a sacred part of our lives why last minute? In fact, they have never been enforced ever, so what happened was nothing. Just a political show for people to get their hate on about the other team. The passion people show about a regulation that never was enforced and such an afterthought by the last administration that they did it on their way out is evidence that the current idiot in chief is the devil. The last idiot in chief also cancelled all regulations in progress from the idiot in chief before him. Oh no! The world has ended! The other team is literally destroying the holy sacred work of my team. Pages and pages and pages of this rubbish.

You do realize that spying at the ISP level is orders of magnitude more invasive than mining your Google queries? We are talking your entire browser history, not just requests to google.com.

You're comparing days after to the election to now. That's an invalid argument.

People don't like what Trump is doing because they don't like what Trump is doing. Simple as that. Occam's Razor.

And I see where your mind is if you believe 3M votes were invalid. 'nuff said.
