Here's my 2 Geekbench tests side by side. One at 11am, the other at 5pm.
Retina Macbook 12" stock standard. What a HUGE difference Yosemite to Sierra makes.
Won't even open Pages without beach balling and turning to not-responding.
Didn't expect this. Internet Recovery Mode it is, back to Yosemite.
Wait for a day or two before the return to Yosimite. Sierra is doing so much in the background. And measur in two days again....

I wonder if the next mac OS will support macbook air 2012. I mean I am curious what would be the excuse for this because between the macbook air mid 2012 and a macbook air 2014 the differences are so small ( maybe a better SSD and a slighlty better cpu and gpu).

Is macOS Sierra really worth the update?

I still haven't seen a killer feature yet making the update worthwhile??

Any ideas?

No update issues here. To be honest, I've hardly noticed any difference, except for the addition of Siri. Of course, that isn't a bad thing, if Apple focus more on under-the-hood performance improving features.

It ran perfectly on my iMac (except for the major flaw caused by an El Capitan update) but that also was a lot faster machine which included 32GB of RAM. No real reason to upgrade, the MB is my work machine, and Yosemite was flawless.

Upgraded and it all seems fine, seems to be running nicely... but really can't see any differences apart from a change of font in Safari, and a Siri icon in the dock! Can only assume this is why there was no fanfare for the launch of it.

Well, I get that CONSTANTLY on my iMac with El Capitan.... hate it to get even worse. I love Apple, but the Safari performance of late is really annoying (and that is with no plugins and 24 gigs of RAM...)

Had similar problem. Following fixed it for me:

The prefs files had filled up with crap and become >10MB. Removed the long keys from
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
com.apple.recentitems.plist

Using PrefsEditor (could probably also just delete the prefs).
Reboot.

Rest of Sierra is pretty uninsteresting to me (don't use Watch, iCloud or any Emoticon BS and Siri is pretty **** on my newish iPhone, so don't see why I would want it to be **** on my Mac). APFS is the only thing of interest/use, and that's not included :/. Any word on battery life?

I have noticed that download of attached files using Google apps in Safari 10.0/MacOS Sierra is not working me. Any suggestions to fix it?

What a great way to release a new Mac operating system... With no new Macs.
One could release an OS update with features that don't work on a lot of moderately older models out there, then announce new models. Hypothetically speaking.

Your laptop is more than 7 years old... Buy a 7 year old PC with only those mods and let us know how it handles Windows 10.

Simple answer Apple has absolutely no compelling reason to optimise OS X to run on low level/older hardware. Microsoft on the other hand is compelled too, as their primary product is solely software, and must run on a myriad of hardware.

Two comparable systems W10 will run smoother, as to the likes or dislikes of the OS they are for the most part subjective. Microsoft has done an excellent job of optimising W10 to run on older and low performance systems, Apple on the other hand relies more on the performance of it`s hardware.

I currently am using two Core M systems on OS X & W10, although the Mac has more of everything the W10 system is generally more fluid and more reliable when pushed hard. In many respects the tables have turned with Apple`s OS becoming more bloated and Microsoft's more efficient.

Q-6

AWESOME... Its not available for install on my Mac, so officially my Macbook Pro from Mid 2009 with new solid state HD and 8GB of ram is not-good enough.... So no more updates for me I guess. What a crock of SHIZZ

Mate, what the hell were you doing splashing $$$ on a 7 year old computer for...?

You've got no reason to be upset.

I'm still on El Capitan 10.11.6 and still there's nothing on my mac app store

Search for it manually, you have to hit Download.

i use android and don't care for Siri.. will I miss much if i don't update??
Be warned that the notification centre is now always white and it's kind of hard to read against darker wallpapers.

Switching to ARM for the Macs probably won't end well.

No, what's likely going to happen is that Macs will end up being updated less and less often, as they'd rather you bought an iPad. It wouldn't surprise me if the iPads eventually got a version of Xcode so that you wouldn't even need a Mac anymore for iOS app development.

Nope, IIRC when Apple started setting up their data centers for iCloud, they when with linux. They'll do the same for Xcode, hence Swift is open source and they are putting a lot of Apple energy into linux based development and build systems.

Yeah, whether it was spec'd maxed out & works perfectly fine and is powerful enough and completely serviceable or not, he's being unreasonable by not realizing that what's important is the model year, not the functionality, and that fully functioning machine belongs in the trash.

And the fact that Apple has had two down quarters YOY for the first time in over 10 years IIRC and its his fault for not ordering a new computer, instead of Apple's fault for not releasing a compelling new computer.

Hoping that Sierra works better on my 2011 iMac than El Capitan did, with constant wifi lock ups, full system lock ups, having to boot in safe mode at every update requiring a restart. Thankfully I'm planning on a new iMac in the next month or so, but this past year of using the mac has been the most painful and tedious I've had.

I'd say the odds of that are pretty much zero. They're waiting on Intel, not themselves. Lets not forget, their mobile chips are ARM based just like most every other mobile CPU, it's just a custom design. ARM does not have the performance to be used in something like a MacBook Pro and I doubt Apple and Intel agreed to a licensing deal to allow Apple to make their on x86 processor and there's virtually zero chance the are working on a completely custom, in-house CPU project.

I know. I'm doing pie-in-the-sky optimism. I don't believe it, I just gotta believe in some valid reason for all the "don't buys" in the MRBG. I've been ready to buy a new Mac since March (new job, un-new computer?!)

It would give me peace of mind if, by the end of October, they'd updated everything (made the MacRumors buyers guide all green) but from rumours it sounds like they're going to update like half of them.

What do you have against older, still perfectly functioning computers?

It won't install on my 2008 Mac Pro (SSD boot and 16GB RAM), either.
From the previous article, it can be installed only if the computers are 2010 or newer.

I can sympathise with this. If there are hardware reasons, then fair enough, but otherwise why prohibit the installation - that just discourages high-end purchases and means that more machines will be running very old versions of the OS.
The only really good reason I can think of is not wanting to expend resources on testing too many configurations.
As someone else says, there will probably be a hack that enables the upgrade even if it isn't officially
supported.
