Too bad. If this is happening just for the flagship models, maybe this will only nudge people to buy the premium mid rangers instead (eg the A7x or A5x series) where hopefully Samsung still include the chargers and headsets.

At the very least, Apple follows the USB-PD standard for their charging. This is unlike the mess on Android where each OEM are doing their own thing with QC2.0, 3.0, super vooc, warp charging, etc (they’re all proprietary). It’s not until QC4.0 that finally it also supports USB-PD.

Just to emphasize the mess of charging in Android world, I cannot even use the USB-C cable from my Honor phone to charge my Samsung. It just won’t work no matter what charger I use, the Samsung simply won’t charge.

Why shouldn't the consumers get less for what they pay while manufacturers make more in the process on top of it?

They shouldn't. Consumers getting screwed over by corporations is one thing. Polluting the planet is another. In an ideal world the savings would trickle down.

That said, its sad so many of you cant pull your head out of your wallet enough to see the bigger issue. A huge amount of people already have chargers too.

Cue downvotes I guess.

You know, I always thought Apple was genius with some of their decisions (e.g. remove headphone jack, power adapter, etc -> profits increase).

But Samsung never ceases to amaze.
Step 1: Apple drops power adapter.
Step 2: Samsung mocks, people agree. Apple bad. Samsung the hero.
Step 3: people get over it
Step 4: Samsung also drops it. They save money too, and got to make fun.

The onpy people that will remember are on MacRumors lol

Well, why can't companies do that then given that they have an even bigger an impact? Consumers would do even more if they could pass the costs to someone else and come out ahead on top of it.

Companies are greedy. Never said that the decision wasn’t largely made in their self interest, but I’m glad of the decision none the less.

seems like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing at Samsung
Typical cultural thing in Asian corporations, company divisions often don't know what the others are doing and there is a high chance of in-fighting, especially if you have divisions with overlapping responsibilities.

Most likely the marketing dudes have little clue what the engineering dudes are doing, resulting in an ad campaign mocking something that actually is already in the works.

Sony and Nintendo used to struggle with this - hardware and sotware being separate divisions messed with the development of consoles and games.

Ugh, was really not wanting this to become a standard - so the future is you have to buy the charger to be able to use the device your purchasing. Earbuds as well?

Another way to transfer some costs to the buyers for the Mfrs.
That's kinda the point.

We don't have to own a new charger every time we get a new iSomething. Use your existing one.

Also why we want USB-C for the iPhones for the longest time. We don't need to use another Lightning cable, we can just use the existing USB-C cable that we got with the other devices we already own.

It's an interesting view from consumer side of things. Seems like the view of a decision like that being made with the company partaking in the burden of that decision would be better.

Why is everything an us vs them? A world can exist where Samsung and Apple are both successful. Besides, ditching the power adapter, like the headphone jack, was a BS move. And no amount of Apple apologist, fanboy nonsense is going to prove otherwise.

When Apple moves to USB-C for all of their power adapters, will you be saying that Apple copied Samsung?

Expected.. and many other company’s will follow, unfortunately.

Unpopular opinion, but I don't think it's unfortunate per se. The amount of e-waste and plastic we are generating and not recylcing isn't sustainable at all, just do a quick research on e-waste to see where the products we ditch really end. PCBs F4R fiber glass can't be recycled and end up piled in 3rd world countries, many of the metals ain't recycled as it's more expensive than it's worth, and most plastics ain't even processed but end up in plastic islands in the middle of the sea. So if all companies start doing it it will be for the better. And avoid that stupid plastic bags of a single use used for every damn cable/accessory inside .

What's actually unfortunate is doing it this way, for the sake of charging 30 bucks more in a $1k device, trying to milk the customer for those sweet bucks. Wanna remove, for the enviornment, something it was before included? Just include it in the actual ("normal") price as a standalone device, but offer a 30 buck reduction in the price if the user doesn't than the carger. Many would choose the 2nd option, and wouldn't feel like they are being cheaped.

Or, less dramatically, continuing to use the 4-port USB charger that you already have and use to charge everything else that doesn't come with a charger.

Or, if this is really as big as a deal as critics make it out to be then treat it as such. Any Android manufacturer who dares drops the charger, seals in the battery, excludes the headphone jack, or whatever: Sever and kill any relation with them.

Don't be dumb and don't accept it like the Apple sheep do. There are a million and one Androids to choose from. Buy a brand that includes one. Dare i say it: Have the courage to make the phone manufacturers realize this is an easy “Win” for them.

When Apple removed the headphone jack not only did they include headphones that would work with the lightning port but they also included an adapter in addition to it all. Now when Apple changes the cable that's included they completely remove a power adapter from being part of the purchase.
That’s the thing. All they did was change the cable that’s in the box. They didn’t change any requirements. You can still use your old cable and your old brick.
if you decide to use the new cable, then yes you have to buy an adapter, or use one that you may already have.
but the assumption is that you already have an old lightning cable or an old brick. With the headphone jack, they had to include some form of adapter, because there was no alternative. With this, there is. It’s called use your old cable

To be 100% honest, I wish Apple would drop the cable from the box as well, because I’ve got so many of those.
I bought an iPhone 5, and it came with a lightning cable.
two years later I bought an iPhone 6+, and it came with a lightning cable.
my 6S+, also came with a Lightning cable.
My Apple TV also came with a lightning cable.
every iPhone since 2016 that I’ve bought has came with a lightning cable.
my regular AirPods that I bought in 2017 came with a lightning cable.
my AirPods 2 that I bought in 2019 came with a lightning cable.
my AirPods Pro that I bought in 2019 came with a lightning cable.
my replacement AirPods Pro that I got in 2020 came with another lightning cable.
my MagSafe duo that I just bought came with yet another lightning cable.
and yet, I use only one cable, and one brick. That’s it. I use my magsafe duo to charge my phone, AirPods and watch, and then if I ever need to charge my Apple TV remote I unplug the duo and plug the cable into my TV remote for a few hours every couple months.

Ofcourse! Samsung is copying Apple. Why not right? yet they have the guts to be making fun of Apple. KARMA!!!

How times have change and how it flips.

Apple rules this world! believe it or not.
just like your comments on epic vs apple, that didn't age well either 😂
