No, people just hating on a genuine thug and murderer. If apple is going for the gangster, thug, criminal, hoodlum "culture" then they've found it with these goons. Whatever though.

It's comical that apple pulls a popular app that deals with totally harmless cannabis but is fine with having some rapper Neanderthal lead their PR campaign. Yeah. OK.

Whoa.

Can you substantiate a single thing you said? Because that just looks like slander to me.

Lots of people seem to be hating on this.

Don't forget, Tim Cook said he understands Apple culture and will not permit it to change. If this helps them develop new products or services then that's great.

Yes, and I understand astrophysics (but only when I pretend I'm an astronaut). If Cook is pushing Beats b/c he believes it's better connected to pop culture than Apple then that ACTION defies any confidence Cook has in himself or other Apple executives to push out "water cooler" products. I hope Tech Crunch has it wrong but if so Apple's era as culturally transformative company are truly over.

As much as I dislike the beats stupid headphones , you can't deny that these guys really brought the brand to public awareness

One thing apple is not short of, is Public Awareness.

Well said. While Cook comes across as a nice guy, I am not sure he actually has roadmap for Apple.

I'm sorry - they're paying multiple billions just to hire a couple of managers? It's not often an Apple shareholder has a lot to complain about, but this sounds like such an occasion.

I have a feeling it's the Beats side doing all the leaking. That alone should be enough for Cook to say No.

He might not believe they're better connected to pop culture, just they have valuable assets he thinks would benefit Apple.

My guess is that if they just went to the local mall for an afternoon, they could find a hip white guy and a hip black guy for a hell of lot cheaper than $2.3 billion. Just saying.............

Jordan, I don't think you're qualified enough to call him simply "Dre" unless, of course, he refers to you as "Dog." He's a Doctor, you know. City of Compton.

Granted, the record industry is taking alot of money but you don't have to try to mislead the facts.

plot twist: "He [Iovine] is best known as the co-founder of Interscope Records and chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M. Iovine is currently developing a digital music subscription service, Beats Music, in conjunction with Beats By Dr. Dre, the company he founded with Dr. Dre in 2006"

if you had two businesses to run, would you do it the same way?

So, this guy was COO of Apple, referred to as a 'genius of the supply chain' by many, was acting CEO several times (and rewarded financially for it) and was personally chosen by Steve Jobs to take over.

Yet you think he's too inept a CEO to even come up with a roadmap for the company?

Running smooth and efficient operations is entirely different from giving and executing a vision/roadmap for a company - he can run Apple, but can he make it grow and shine?

Jobs was a piss-poor manager, he hired people to make up for that (and he got the best, too), his focus was on coming up with innovative products. We haven't seen Cook do much of that, if he's at all capable of it.

I think it would be just as ugly if Apple was buying Bose.

For me the tone of the entire thing was set by that video that was initially leaked. It was trashy, plain and simple, and far below the type of thing you'd expect to see in relation to Apple in any way. I don't know anything about hip hop, nor do I know anything about the Beats individuals involved. I saw that video and it left an impression.

I honestly don't know much about Beats except I equate their headphone product with junk. Last Christmas I literally laughed out loud when I heard one of my extended family members bought Beats headphones for several people. I'm sure I'll be labeled as a racist now since I don't like them. I've read some pretty simplistic accusations like that in past days, and it's always easier to label someone and move on.

I have to disagree with you completely regarding Bose. Yes, there would still be a conversation about the quality of the product. But nowhere in that conversation would racial overtones play a part in the story.

Bolded from your quote: Not liking Beats has nothing to do with racism. Nothing in your entire criticism of Beats had a racial component. You'd be labeled a racist if you made racist statements. Not sure how you make the leap from not liking Beats to possibly being labeled a racist. Statements like this: " I'm sure I'll be labeled as a racist now since I don't like them. are only fuel for the dumpster fire that's been burning in the Beats threads. Inevitably, some dumb ass is going to reply with "Yeah you're right. They are going to call you racist." Then they will proceed with some idiotic screed peppered with some stupid urban/Hip-Hop/Rap veiled references to bolster their argument.

You didn't like the video. Valid point. You don't like Beats. Another valid point. Don't sully your opinion with that garbage about someone will now call you racist in a situation where you didn't mention race. It devalues the rest of your statement unfairly.

Mac!

My reliable source said that as soon the Beats is been acquired by Apple, Lovine will be moved to Mac division. The project will be called MacLovine and Dr. Dre will remain doctor and will be working with the health division of iOS.

Not Apple

As soon as I saw that cringe worthy video of Dr Dre saying "The game is changing, the game is changing. For real. Billion dollar baby" Even the fact that that video was evenly remotely associated with Apple was horrible, really horrible.

Winds of change...

I think it's clear that Tim Cook is releasing some of the responsibilities of managing Apple on a group of more "capable" people than he is in certain critical areas.
We may not agree Beats style/urban culture is something that easily merges with the Apple style. So while Angela Ahrendts is, apparently, a perfect suit for retail management (fashion, high end brand experience), Dr. Dre and Iovine's style is rather odd to most of us 30-40-50's something Apple buyers. That's why we're still scratching our heads on this adquisition.
What I see is that Mr. Cook is trying to rejuvenate Apple brand and broaden the profile of Apple buyers to a younger and culturally different target than it has today. He's not guilty to have no idea of what a 15-18 kid want (I'm 42 and I have no clue), so it makes perfect sense to me that he tries to bring people who knows better about trends, music, entertainment (and most of all: people who have the connections to that industry).
All of this could pave the way for a wearables and entertainment services era (if that's indeed the goal) or at least give Apple a twist to make it more appealing to younger/culturally diverse audiences, with different and specific tastes (most of whom doesn't come to Apple discussion forums, BTW).

To be honest I tired of this rumor. First it was suppose to be announced two weeks, and then again this week with nothing. I'm starting to wonder if there was ever a deal or if the deal just fell apart.

I wish there were rumors about things we care about such as OS X 10.10 or iOS 8. Heck I'd even love some details on some new Mac products. Mac Mini I'm looking at you :)

How's that innovative product roadmap working for you??? We are approaching the mid mark of 2014, and we have only seen the Airs get a spec bump....via intel. Yeah I have a few concerns about his roadmap ;)

Running a supply chain, and being chosen by Jobs does not make him a Genius CEO. What exactly has he done to improve Apple post Jobs, something he can be credited for? For me he is replying on the products Jobs was responsible for, and spec bumps and minor design changes to those products are not game changes.

And yes I have doubts about his long term vision for Apple if he is looking to acquire Beats.

Agree with this. There is no link between Beats and the people who wear them. I just think they are a crap product, though I have seen every single ethnicity enjoy using them. It actually boils down to the users choice in music, I am yet to see someone use them for Classic music :)

I can't believe most of the things you all are saying.. I used to love this site and talking to u all, reading the comments but now.i feel that majority of you all are racist.. I'm an African American and just can feel the hatred coming thru your keyboards simply because an African American may be a senior executive at Apple. This is a great move. Apple has the white communities, asian communities, and just about every other community except the African American community. They don't connect with them so why not bring in people that will help you connect with them as well as help you with your music endeavors.. Think about it, you go to the airport or work and all you see is iPhones.. But Samsung is #2 in sales? How so?? Because they have the people you don't pay attention too. They have the black community which buy phones more often than most people and this is where Apple is losing.. I was in the barborshop with 20 other people and I was the only one with an iphone..

And to everybody thinking that one person not named Ive is going to start designing apple products and keyboards and colors and "making it ghetto". You are the dumbest people on the boards. 1 person is not going to contaminate Apple or change their culture because that's not who they are. Just grow tf up

"Brilliant poets" in hip hop? Loud, crashing bass and the n-word in every other sentence. . . I'm impressed.

[Verse 1: Damian Marley]
Some of the smartest dummies
Can't read the language of Egyptian mummies
An' a flag on a moon
And can't find food for the starving tummies
Pay no mind to the youths
Cause it's not like the future depends on it
But save the animals in the zoo
Cause the chimpanzee dem a make big money
This is how the media pillages
On the TV the picture is
Savages in villages
And the scientist still can't explain the pyramids, huh
Evangelists making a living on the videos of ribs of the little kids
Stereotyping the image of the images
And this is what the image is
You buy a khaki pants
And all of a sudden you say a Indiana Jones
An' a thief out gold and thief out the scrolls and even the buried bones
Some of the worst paparazzis I've ever seen and I ever known
Put the worst on display so the world can see
And that's all they will ever show
So the ones in the West
Will never move East
And feel like they could be at home
Dem get tricked by the beast
But a where dem ago flee when the monster is fully grown?
Solomonic linage whe dem still can't defeat and them coulda never clone
My spiritual DNA that print in my soul and I will forever Own Lord

[Hook] x2

[Interlude: Nas]
Yeah, Sabali. Thats patience. That's what the old folks told me
Discovering the World before this World. A World buried in time
Uncover with rhymes. It gets no realer

[Verse 2: Damian Marley]
Huh, we born not knowing, are we born knowing all?
We growing wiser, are we just growing tall?
Can you read thoughts? can you read palms?
Huh, can you predict the future? can you see storms, coming?
The Earth was flat if you went too far you would fall off
Now the Earth is round
If the shape change again everybody woulda start laugh
The average man can't prove of most of the things
That he chooses to speak of
And still won't research and find out
The root of the truth that you seek of
Scholars teach in Universities and claim that they're smart and cunning
Tell them find a cure when we sneeze
And that's when their nose start running
And the rich get stitched up, when we get cut
Man a heal dem broken bones in the bush with the wet mud
Can you read signs? can you read stars?
Can you make peace? can you fight war?
Can you milk cows, even though you drive cars? huh
Can you survive? Against all odds, now?

[Hook] x2

[Interlude: Nas]
It's crazy when you feed people the truth you don't know how they're gonna react
You're scared of wrong doers, people that just ignorant
You're scared of the truth, be patient for now

[Verse 3: Nas]
Who wrote the Bible? Who wrote the Qur'an?
And was it a lightning storm
That gave birth to the Earth
And then dinosaurs were born? damn
Who made up words? Who made up numbers?
And what kind of spell is mankind under?
Everything on the planet we preserve and can it
Microwaved it and try it
No matter what we'll survive it
What's hue? What's man? What's human?
Anything along the land we consuming
Eatin', deletin', ruin
Trying to get paper
Gotta have land, gotta have acres
So I can sit back like Jack Nicholson
Watch niggas play the game like the Lakers
In a world full of 52 fakers
Gypsies, seances, mystical prayers
You superstitious? throw salt over your shoulders
Make a wish for the day cuz
Like somebody got a doll of me
Stickin' needles in my arteries
But I can't feel it
Sometimes it's like 'part of me, but I got a real big spirit'
I'm fearless.... I'm fearless
Don't you try and grab hold of my soul
It's like a military soldier since seven years old
I held real dead bodies in my arms
Felt their body turn cold, oh
Why we born in the first place
If this is how we gotta go?
Damn

[Outro: Nas]
This goes to all the wisdom and knowledge seekers of the World
Sabali, Patience, yeah

Ok I think just about vomited my dinner. So basically Apple is turning into a fashion company and using Beats to try and inject "cool" into the company, while also pandering to African-Americans and teenagers. #vomit

So Apple doesn't pander to AA? Nobody African American buys Apple products and will only do so if it favors the hip hop culture that more whigger white people adopt than AA?

Or should Apple just keep pandering to overtly rich white trash ?

Or please go deeper into your culturally ignorant post that may actually show that some Apple fans need to step outside more often.

Don't throw race into this.

You did first but then again I guess that's okay for you but not other people?

Let's not bring up the allusions to race that others have made throughout this thread.
