Lg made a statement on 13 March 2013 i think, that they know and they will fix their panels aka retina 13" and 15" and for the 27" imac panels
What brightness setting?
If I run the test at the lowest screen brightness, I get nothing, midway, an image after 10 minutes and at the highest setting, an image after one minute.
This is not a deal breaker for me, years ago, I created a screen sized grey image in photoshop that I keep in my desktop screen image folder. I use it once and awhile on all my computers and have for some time. I simply display it in full screen mode for about 30 minutes when I am not doing anything and it helps keeps displays from having the burn in of permanent things like docks, menu bars, etc. although I ran the 10 minute test on my MacPro's 30" ACD and old 2009 13" and got no image retention.
After running the ten minute test on the new Retina 13", I did my grey screen for no more than 3 minutes at mid brightness and the image was gone, including the dock on the bottom.
At the end of the day, I am not going to flip out and curse Apple over it, problems always get solved because of my professional relationship with them.

Wtf? THis sounds like a pretty big issue to me, why don't reviews ever mention it.
I was going to buy a 13" shortly but by the sounds of it I will wait until I know Apple have used up all their 2012 stock for the LG panels.
No, I'm not desperate for one.
But I find the reviews annoying. Not a single one mentioned the trackpad lockup issue despite it being a rampant problem, and no one has mentioned this IR problem despite them knowing about it on the 2012 model. I expect reviewers to be thorough in their research, and not just fanboys.

I grabbed the EDID that my 13" rMBP gave me and took a look at the EDID specification. The first 20 bytes are as follows:
Code:00 ff ff ff ff ff ff 00 06 10 18 a0 00 00 00 00 30 16 01 04
If I'm reading this correctly, my LCD was made in the last few weeks of 2012. If it is indeed an LG panel, it's completely possible that the fixes they made during the first part of 2013 aren't in the 13" Haswell rMBPs.![]()
Been working professionally with Mac's since 1992, these are computers and they are all the same once you shed the pretty aluminum. So there are *always* issues, always have been, always will be. The difference now is the internet has created a great deal of hype, slander, rhetoric and self indulgent entitlement.
So try not to be so annoyed, the whole review thing, that is still not day to day, counts for everyone's varied use portrayal of anything, it is the self indulgent, can't spend one free moment off of the internet BS. It will give you a bit of an idea what is going on with *a* product, but not everyone's product.
I'm no fanboy, if I find through my usage this image retention thing becomes a problem, I will address it. If I find through widespread geekdom that it is a problem that could affect my product's resale, I will address it, same goes for the trackpad thing.
I don't spend my free time on computers or devices, that's not the way I live my life. But I do use them for my living and I count on them to work as advertised. Not once have I seen anything good out of ranting on the internet like many of you seem to live to do.
The internet gear review hero exists for one reason and one reason only, many spend too much time on devices and the internet, period.
Plus most people depend on reviews to be impartial so we can get an understanding of what product we are buying with our hard earned money. I would be annoyed to purchase something based on numerous professional reviews and not have any of them mention flaws. I expect them to at least mention it so I can then do research on it.
Upon further observation, I found that running the checkerboard pattern for 1 minute at full brightness caused image retention in my display. Once again, I have the 13 inch a019 display.
1. How many times would you be able to exchange your laptop at apple and when you do, do you get another full 14 days to make another exchange?
2. Also, is image retention to some degree inherent in all displays. In other words, is it normal for my display to have image retention after just one minute of the test?
ioreg -l | grep IODisplayEDID | sed 's/^.*<//g' | cut -b 33-36
Can you open Terminal and paste the following?
Code:ioreg -l | grep IODisplayEDID | sed 's/^.*<//g' | cut -b 33-36
First two characters of the result are the week number and the last two are the number of years since 1990 (both in hexadecimal). You can use http://easycalculation.com/hex-converter.php to convert to decimal. For example, that command gives me "3016", which corresponds to week 48 of 2012 (1990 + 22).

I ran mine and got "0417". So is that week 4 of 2013?

For displays I would say it is possible to see IR to some degree depending on exposure. However 1 minute is far too short and I would talk to apple about it. So you have a late 13 with a 2012 lg screen?
I would recommend making a video like the one cover made. It will help bring awareness to the problem.
I have the same, 3016.
Can anyone answer my questions above?
I ran my haswell rMBP 13'' and got "3016"
What does this mean?
