His earlier work was more detailed.
I get the feeling he's doing a lot more work now (not just with smartphones) and as such doesn't really put in the same effort like he used to.

I find his reviews now a little 'nothingy'. He often gets details wrong too.

By contrast, I thought The Verge's review this time was great.

I agree about Marques. I’ve been watching him pretty much since he started and I remember how detailed his videos were. They have definitely changed and I’ve moved on to other reviewers.

Iphonedo is one of the best as his reviews are both technical and informative. Most other YT reviews are fluff. At this point I don't know who has been bought or just wants to stay in Apple's good graces. Thus it's better to try the phone and see for yourself. If it doesn't satisfy send it back to Apple within 14 days penalty free (if bought directly from them).

Perhaps, but this thread is tagged iPhone 14 Pro, not sure if that’s something the forum does or if this was posted in an iPhone 14 Pro specific part of the forum.

So why is the topic tagged in "iPhone 14 Pro"?

Oh, you guys are right, that is what it's tagged, and reading his original post again that's what he wrote too. My bad. Still, I do believe that the OP's sentiment might better be applied to the iPhone 14, not the pro.

I had the Xperia 5 III and never had those issues. I didn't hang out in the Xperia online circles so I'm not sure if those issues still persist.

It definitely put me off their phones. Too bad because when the display didn’t fail it was great and the cameras were good.

Samsung is the only one that can probably compete in the same ring as Apple in a world of equals, but what holds them back is probably the pace of progress with Android - they can customize around it, and then can make some core improvements, but they have to balance that against how much has to be reworked against the next versions of Android.

In an alternate reality, if Samsung ran the Android program entirely, things could get super interesting.

Hardware wise Samsung is the closest competitor to Apple. Software wise, you pretty much have to compare to Pixel. No doubt.

The other thing that holds the Android manufacturers back, though, is customer care. No one can compare to Apple (and don’t get me started on my nightmare 4 MONTH experience of Samsung customer service - having my phone essentially hostage at their repair depot for 4 months after I’d only owned it for 62 days).

reviews seem to confirm purple is more girly purple than manly purple
If that's a real concern for you, Apple's elderberry silicone case is a great solution. I ordered one along with the clear MagSafe case.

This is the camera review i look forward to the most every year, to get an actual idea about the camera https://www.austinmann.com/trek/iphone-14-pro-camera-review-scotland
Thanks, I always look forward to Austin's reviews as well! One thing that really jumped out at me that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else--you can set ProRaw to 12 MP in the camera settings! So you can get the advantages of ProRaw and the advantages of pixel binning simultaneously. In fact, Austin said that is going to be his main shooting mode with the iPhone going forward.

Seems like it should’ve been called the iPhone 13S pro….instead of iPhone 14 pro.

reviewers are saying for the most part with one or two scenarios the camera differences between 13 pro and 14 pro are almost indistinguishable.

i mean honestly it’s the same review year after year for the most part.

but for me I am disappointed about the battery life. I read one review ran a test where the 13 pro beat the 14 pro by 2 hours.

The screen also apparently never hit 2000 nits in one reviewers test…

So it’s looking one minor upgrade and a lot of downgrades…

Holy originality Batman!

Can’t wait to be the judge of this myself but we appreciate the warning.

I think reviewers and everyone else forgets that we have reached a peak in cell phone technology. iPhones and other smartphones AREN’T going to have amazing new innovations every year. Also, if you are upgrading iPhones every year then turn around and complain about it not being new enough is kinda weird.

Example, someone on an iPhone X would find the iPhone 14 pro to be a major upgrade and o think that’s who Apple targets with these upgrades that refine the previous models.

Apple knows that that people that upgrade every year are in the minority and most people upgrade years apart.

I say all that to say, I think people are expecting too much for Apple and other smartphones that release new versions yearly. Not to say there won’t be any new innovations but I wouldn’t expect them any time soon.

Seems like to me you are trying to convince yourself that this is a minor upgrade because you are keeping your 13 pro. Which is the furthest thing from the truth. The reviews I have seen have been stellar. Best in years. The 14 pro beats the 13 pro handily. The regular 13 is closer to the 13 pro than the 14 pro is.

IPhone 1Up, got no problem with this cycle and excited about what’s coming Friday. Only thing that gets me meh is the Lightning Port still being there.

Here you go https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/iphone-14-pro

unlike the rest of the reviews they actually did tests. i swear most of the reviews on the phone is vague and personal which doesn’t offer much to go off of. We needs stats and confirmation of apples claims. Toms guide discovered 2000 nits doesn’t get hit and they found battery life subpar.

gizmodo, tech radar and basically 80 percent of reviewers were sucking up to apple big time.
What review were you reading?😅 Just buy one. You know you want too. It’s easy to admit a mistake.
"I think that the iPhone 14 Pro is truly the best phone that Apple has ever released, crushing everything else before it."

Agreed. MKBHD reviews are very superficial/surface level these days and aren’t useful in making an actual decision. They’re more focused on their intros which they think are ground breaking and take days. I could literally care less about an intro that last 10sec and took a week to do. Make more useful content…

I don't disagree here. He does seem to think that the intros are what counts, which is weird. I couldn't care less about the intro and am more interested in the content. We get it, you have spectacular video editing equipment. But using it on 10 second intros doesn't do much for me.

Outside of that I generally like his reviews.
