This just might be the least effective pitch video for an Apple product I've seen. It dispels none of the worries I've had about this product and the suggested way of using it makes me question why you'd need to attach this thing to a phone at all. Just so that you don't forget your wallet if you put it on a table at a restaurant? Seriously? Rumors are they are going to make the magnets stronger in the next magsafe version. I'll wait for that.
He's reviewing the product, not making a sales pitch for Apple.

I’ve had one since they were initially released and I gotta say, as a fan of minimalist wallets, they’re not as bad as some reviews have made them out to be, but they’re far from perfect.

I’ve *never* had an issue with the magnets not being strong enough, and it seems like the longer the wallet is in place, the stronger the hold is. Nor have a ever had a problem with it sliding off when putting it into or taking it out of a pocket, but I realize some pants have tighter pockets than mine, so YMMV.

That said, I do wish it held one more card, as three is juuuuust a little too constricting for my likes. I carry my ID, my Kroger debit card (you can use their app at checkout, but not at their gas pumps yet), and my debit card attached to the bank account I share with my wife for when I go somewhere that doesn’t have Apple Pay. I have one other debit card for my personal bank account that I’d like to carry for when Apple Pay isn’t accepted which I’m currently forced to leave out of the mix, but it’s not a deal breaker. It adds unwanted bulk to the phone already, so I can see why they didn’t make it hold more, but it’s still a compromise I have to deal with.
Just wanted to say that for my Costco card use is similar to your Kroger card. I can use the app in store but the gas pump still requires the card, so I found a solution that works for me. We have two cars and we just leave a Costco card in the glove box of each car since it will only be used for pumping gas. It has worked out so far to not have to carry that card around constantly.

Edit: oh you called it a debit card. Ok, maybe not the best thing to leave in a glove box. 😅

I appreciate the follow up, but this is one of the most bizarre review vids I've seen here. Keeping the phone and wallet separate and then only attaching it when it's on a table in front of you, makes no sense. Get a minimalist wallet that can hold one more card if you're gonna do that. And I'm sorry but I have to say he may very well be alone or nearly alone in the world when it comes to removing all items from your pockets when sitting down somewhere. The phone perhaps, but keys and wallet too?? That just seems like an opportunity to loose your stuff (which he says has happened). I can think of no good reason to empty your pockets like that unless you're wearing skin-tight jeans everywhere.

Wallet works well for me. I have the mini so the wallet takes up basically the entire back of the phone. makes it easy to grip. I've never had any issues with the magnetic attachment not being strong enough. My only issue is how difficult it can be to get cards out sometimes. But, I don't take cards out too much these days. I couldn't imagine sticking with this wallet for 3 months given how much the reviewer had to do to make it work. Transferring money, rotating in different cards? If I had to do that this wallet wouldn't even be an option.

I get what he means about the pockets. I hate having things in my pockets. The less items I have on me the better. Just more comfortable.

I didn’t watch it thinking it was a pitch video. Didn’t feel like there was a recommendation either way. But I liked a 3 month update from someone who’s been using it everyday, instead of most other reviews out there essentially being a first impression. And if the first video and this update video didn’t appeal to how you use a wallet, that’s great, you get to spend that money elsewhere. And yes it was addressed in the video that rumors are of a stronger magnet.

I do the same, and pay with my watch whenever possible. But that doesn't help when it comes to things like insurance cards and ID. I wonder if I can use digital versions of insurance cards, hmmm.
I was able to add my dental and prescription card to my Apple wallet, but my health insurance provider doesn’t support that yet. You can access your card digitally through their app though. Sam’s Club now lets you pay at the pump through their app so I was able to eliminate that card too. Hopefully more states will offer digital ID sooner than later.

I happen to love the wallet be it attached to the phone or not. The minimalist approach was too strong on this one for me to ignore it. Haven't done much "going out" lately ... but it's just perfect for that. Just my 2c.

Digital driver licenses really need to make their way into use a lot faster. Currently, only a few states have it.

As for insurance cards, my insurance company, Liberty Mutual, has an app that allows you to add digital insurance cards to Apple Wallet. It will show various information about my policy for the cars. There is a disclaimer, though, that says that the wallet app may not be sufficient for proof of insurance.

Apparently he still has old credit cards with embossed numbers printed on the front of the card, feels so like 2012.

The wallet is great, and yes it was meant to be separated more than it's led on. That's the whole point, it's not permanently on the phone case like many previous ones and that's why I was a believer day one.

The open tab on the back to slide out cards easily while i'm in the car since not everyone is like Mickey Ds and Apple Pay.

another "you are using it wrong"

justifying a flawed product by saying 'you should have your wallet in your pants most of the time' is pathetic..... it's like saying it's okay to have charging port at the bottom of the mouse because you rarely charge it.

Come on Macrumor... you can do better than this

I had rewards from Best Buy that were going to expire and there was nothing that I needed or even strongly wanted at the time, so I bought the MagSafe wallet sort of on a whim. It ended up being about half price. For half price, it's a good deal. At full price, eh... maybe.

For the last 15 years or so, I have carried a card case instead of a full wallet and I have not paid for anything with cash in probably that same amount of time. So I am quite accustomed to only carrying a couple of cards of various types. However, there are frequently times that I'm "just running out" for whatever: getting take out for dinner, picking up someone, grabbing one or two items at the grocery store, etc. For these trips, I need even fewer items than usual: drivers license, medical insurance card (just in case I'm in an accident), and one credit card in case I can't use ApplePay for some reason. Those three things fit perfectly in the MagSafe wallet.

Concerning the wallet itself and the magnets, I have not had any problems. I have the 12 Pro Max and I'm not sure if the larger, heavier phone has stronger magnets than the smaller phones, but the wallet is secure on the phone. Yes, I can force it to come off, but carrying it around normally, it doesn't just fall off or get bumped off. That said, I typically have my phone in my hand until I put it down on a desk, table, or drop it in my car's cupholder. I don't like having things in my pants pockets and rarely put the phone--or my car key for that matter--in a pocket. It's also winter so if I DO put it in a pocket, it's going in my coat pocket rather than pants pocket, so I really can't speak to the wallet coming off when sliding the phone into or out of a pants pocket.

Never had any issue with the magnet not being strong enough for me. It never came off when I am putting in or taking out of my jeans. With COVID around we only need to run quick errands for food pick up or taking kids to park or walk, so all I need is the drivers license and nothing else. The magsafe wallet is doing a pretty job at it. It obviously doesn’t fit everybody’s need, but it does fit mine.

You don’t need any condoms, not a chance you’re getting laid with this thing on your phone

Yes you are, if you chose the right color combination that Apple likes to promote so you buy more than one case and wallet.

Lastly, no one likes condoms so there is that too.

Everyone is entitled to spend their money however they like, but I do not see the appeal of spending $60 for a magnetic wallet that barely holds 3 cards. To me, that's a tremendous waste of money.
I want to carry as little as possible, short of getting rid of my wallet completely, this was the next best solution and it works great. With a smart lock on my door and this wallet, it feels like I am essentially just leaving the house with my phone.

Yeah no. I have a similarly thick slimline wallet with a separate see through panel for my ID that comfortably holds three cards and said ID, and I only paid 15 bucks for it a decade ago.
If your argument is the Apple wallet is meant to be used that way instead of how it is advertised by Apple, then there are better solutions that cost 1/3 as much out there.
