F4KL serial here.

Purchased yesterday from Apple Store 5th Avenue. No yellowing and uniformity is really good.

Very pleased. :D

Not sure what to do. My screen definitely has subtle yellow tinting and some backlight bleeding in the bottom corners in portrait. Sure, I'd like a perfect screen but I don't want to end up with one that's even worse. :(

rMini Yellow on one end of the screen white on the other?

I'm not convinced the perfect device exists. I have one with no dust, no dents, no image retention and the faintest yellow towards the home button.

If I try again I may get a perfect screen but with dust dents or IR. So it seems it's time to quit. Either keep this one or give up.

Can anyone tell me how u know what screen ur mini has ie LG,samsung etc?
Also how do u test for these screen issues ?

Now that I've had a few days to play around with my replacement rMini I have to say it's a big improvement over my previous rMini. The screen looks more uniform and I don't really see any yellowish hue to it. I'm really surprised that the screens aren't more uniform than they are. I think if you're questioning the quality of your screen take it to somewhere that has demo units and compare for yourself. This is how I knew my screen might not be up to scratch. Also thanks to the people in this thread for nudging me to take action. :)

You can use a gray scale image like the one I used in the tst below. Both are retina iPad minis. One is DLXLL and the other is DLXLP. The latter is the better screen. Makes it really easy to tell.

Wow, the one on the left is terrible. Mine looks like the one on the right, but I was still thinking of trying to exchange it.

Also, it's worth noting that some have claimed perfect screens do in fact exist.

You could also get a worst screen. So it's a gamble either way.

How does this screen look?

 I bought a rMini at Best Buy yesterday and when I got home with it I had a dual colored screen! About two inches from the bottom was all yellow and it jumped right out at me the moment I turned it on! I tried using it on bright for a few hours but it never changed. I returned it for another this morning and held my breath as I turned the replacement on. This one is PERFECT :D. I now have an iPad Air 32 LTE and rMini 32 with perfect screens.

My point here is all those messages I read here on MacRumors about people receiving faulty screens and members sorta dismissing it as being OCD? The defective screens are real and the people reporting them are reporting some pretty harsh defects.

I have purchased way too many iPads over the years, this is the first time I received one that was truly defective. I am now a believer, Apple needs better quality control. These devices are way too expensive to accept anything less then perfect. Make sure before you leave the Apple store or Best Buy yours is not defective!

Hoe does this screen look?

I got a DLXL rMini from an in store pick up, pretty noticeable yellow bottom half of screen. Then I received my second rMini in the mail (ordered on launch day) also a DLXL. But this second one is great. I compared them both side by side, and the one with the yellow bottom was actually much warmer all over the screen compared to the good one. Very noticeable when viewing them side by side.

So the serial numbers won't predict how your screen turns out. I'm thinking there is a range of acceptability that had to be set to meet yield requirements, and the "bad" mini I had was simply on the lower end of that spectrum.

I'm just happy my second one looks good, now i don't have to worry about it.

Do you think I need to exchange?

Do you think I need to exchange?

Question is really for you. If you're happy with it keep it. If not return it. Apple struggles to make consistent screens so it's a bit of a lottery whether or not you'll get one you like better.

I have just got a replacement with serial dxdlm today.
Do you think the problem is severe or not?

Looks pretty much the same as the one I have. Hard to tell with the photo and lighting. Mine is worse at the bottom left so if I turn the device upside down it is more noticeable. Thankfully I don't tend to use it upside down!

To be honest I think most rMini's have this issue to a greater or lessor degree and if you want an rMini just now I think this is as good as it gets. Perhaps things will improve with Samsung screens if they start to use these next year. My measure is that I'm prepared to accept some minor colour shift but not this and image retention. I've got a non IR device now with a slight shift so time to quit while I'm ahead I think. If it really starts to bug me I'll return and call it a day until next year.

Hi, I received an mini retina this morning, that was shipped from China. My serial is DLXLN. Anyway, I turned it on and immediately noticed a very small strip of yellow at the bottom of the screen, right above the home button. Does this usually go away or should I return it? One more thing, I am going to the Apple store tomorrow for an appointment for a iPhone issue. Do you think they would replace it at the store since it was shipped overseas, or do I have to go through apple.com? Thanks.

Definitely noticed the yellow tinting on my first mini retina. Was distracting when in portrait and the keyboard popped up and had a dirty yellow look. Also when reading a few websites in landscape you could see the yellow tint as you read from left to right.

Returned it, got another DLXL. This one is MUCH better. I think it may be slightly warmer overall compared to the first but there is no distracting uneven colouring on the screen. Pretty happy with it now.

That was what pissed me off. So much material on the iPad is white. Websites, keyboard, calender, notes, reminders, iMessage... so you're reminded of the problem every time you use it. I had the same thought though: keyboard pops up and I just thought "man, who pissed on the bottom of this screen." It wasn't THAT bad but still disappointing after spending that much money on it.

I've gone through two already that both got returned. Bought them within the first few days of them being out from an Apple store. Getting two new ones delivered from China tomorrow, will let everyone know how they turn out.

Looks exactly the same as the two I had to return. It's really up to you if it bothers you or not. For me, once I knew it was there I noticed it EVERY single time I used it after that so it really ruined the joy of a new toy for me.

The way I see it is iPads are the most expensive tablets on the market, they're supposed to be premium devices. It's main feature is it's a screen. If the screen can't even have a uniform background that's kind of a problem, a big one when white is displayed so much in iOS7 as I mentioned in my earlier post.

I think it's good to have expectations/standards with this stuff. If we return it we send a message "this is not acceptable." In the 20+ devices I've bought over my lifetime from Apple this is the first one I've ever returned.

For comparison sake I attach a picture of a rMini screen which I think is about as good as your going to get.

When doing this what is the screen brightness setting?

It was set to about 50% brightness. My previous rMini screen looked exactly like kennychenhk picture where the screen was bright white on the top and soft white on the bottom. The lack of uniformity was most noticeable reading emails in mail and in iBooks.

I've decided to give up on the rMini. The one I have is the best out of the two I've bought but it still bugs me when I'm reading a book. It has a noticeable yellow tint from bottom left.

So I'll stick with the Air I have. I'd planned on having the rMini for portability but the Air is pretty portable now. So skipping this Mini because of the poor screens and will see what unfolds next year.

I'm envious of you guys who managed to get a decent one but I've had enough. iPad 3 was the same lottery and iPad 4 I stuck gold first time around. And with my 5s.

When you get it please post how it is. Curious if the week number is more important then the first four letters that everyone seems to be going by.

My screen seems to be pretty much perfect.

Also the colours seem better than that of my 1st gen iPad mini. They pop more, and reds are 'redder'.

Picked up a 32GB rMini yesterday. Noticed yellow tint along the bottom straight away. Logged onto here and see its a common issue. DXLX SERIAL FOR REF. Got another, 64GB this time to compare - about to open and try. If the same both are going back and I ain't bothering with anymore! Can't be annoyed with this this consent merry go round of trying to get a good one!
