I've got yellowing in the bottom right quarter of my rMini :(

I've read somewhere that running the rMini on full brightness for a couple of days can cure the problem, but I'm not convinced.

I'd take it back to Apple for an exchange but there's no stock of the 128gb cellular units at any of the stores nearby.

Anyone got backlight bleed on the bottom region by home button as well? It feels like it's bleeding yellow in a dark screen.

I'm now up to my 3rd rmini. All space grey 64gb DLXL serials. All have had yellow on the bottom 3rd of the screen. 2 were purchased at the apple store, this one was ordered from Apple.ca. It's the best of the 3 but still noticeable. I'm going to wait a few days then make up my mind whether it's going back or not.

Hi guys,

Just signed up to the forum here because I wanted to share some photos with you.

I'm really liking the rmini so far except the display which is a pain in the ass. I had two airs prior to the rmini due to the left yellow tint which was very distracting. I'm currently on my 2nd rmini because of screen issues as well.

This current one is displaying IR (image shows 75% brightness on the App Store for 45 seconds then switched to the grey background). Backlight bleeding in the bottom left hand corner and poor white uniformity (blue at top down to yellow at bottom)

What's the opinion on me returning another one - starting to feel like they are beginning to recognise me in the apple store and might try to stop me...or even that I'm slowly just just becoming obsessed with the screens. Also imagine if the replacement was worse ....

Such a shame that I think the device is so good as I don't want my money back haha!

Thanks,

Oops sorry and here's the bleed at 75% in the dark. Most notably it's noticeable when watching a film :-(

I have a slight band of yellow on side , bottom and top of the screen. I turned off auto brightness and put it on full downloaded a all white photo and displayed it with nothing else so it was a all white screen. Plugged it I and set in box and loosely set lid on atop. I did this for about 12 hours all the yellow went away besides a small amount on the very top of screen. I think in my case they must have been extra blue on cured yet. I will see what it looks like next week but I do believe that all it was.

Won't last. The 12 hours likely caused temporary burn-in/ghosting.

Thought I would share my recent experience but I returned my DLXLL iPad mini for another DLXL but the week number is "P" which was three weeks after the first model. While it maybe true that the first four letters in the serial number is no indication on the model of the display but there is a good chance that a later week can be a different batch.

Below are an image of the two minis. The top is the new replacement DLXLP and the bottom is DLXLL.

to be honest, your original is better since its just yellow everywhere. The replacement has "good areas" which would contrast sharply with the more yellow regions.

Really? I saw it as being more intense towards the left in the picture which is the bottom of the screen. The other side of the keyboard is more like the new one

in fairness, I'm looking at a picture of a picture of what you're seeing in person:p, if it's good enough for you then keep what you prefer. I'm a bit too picky for my own good.

I wonder if this has to do with the placement of the LED back lights rather than the make of the panels? If the source of the lights is at top, the top would be brighter/bluer. I can see the tint is graduate and more yellow at the bottom.

It's hard to tell in photos but I agree with your assessment. The bottom one looks way too yellow and uneven.

My mini thats in the mail is a DLXLP I hope mine is as good as yours. :)

I know it doesn't look completely uniform, but thats probably down to the viewing angle. My 1st gen mini straight on is perfect, and has slight colour shifts when viewed from an angle, which is totally normal for this type of panel.

I just don't want the yellow corners that a lot of iPads seem to exhibit.

I think you're correct. All the ones I've seen and the couple I've had have had brighter/blue tones towards the top and warmer at the bottom. Like the Air which has the blue spine at the left, I suspect the rMini is lit from the top and the Air from the left.

I had the opposite on 2 Air's I returned. Both had yellow tint on the left and white on the right.

And 1 rMini I have has the faintest of yellow tinting on the left as well.

Faintest of yellow in the bottom left corner or the whole left side of the Mini?

Mostly uniform across the whole left side, although it's hard to tell because the whole screen is much warmer than my other rMini. It's is very faint though, compared to the Air's which were very noticeable. That's why I kept this one. No image retention on this one either.

My main rMini has the image retention but the screen is mostly white...a cooler white.

Damn Apple.....why do we have to go through all this!?!

When you get it please post how it is. Curious if the week number is more important then the first four letters that everyone seems to be going by.

My Air had yellow tint on the whole left side too. It was more noticeable than what's on the mini. But, that yellow tint went away after a few days of use. The tint on my mini is subdue but noticeable. Maybe in the future Apple will edge lit both sides of the backlight? Then people will probably complaint about the yellow middle.:)

my guess is that the air and mini have different configurations for the backlight. That would explain why on the air the yellow to pink gradient is left to right vs bottom to top on the mini.

I've got the same. The last one inch of my screen is a very little bit more yellow, hard to see. But it is.

Couldn't it just be the glue which has not got time to dry? I'll just try using it for like 4 days, and see if it improves.

We'll it has not come back in fact it's getting lighter and lighter and getting harder to see. I do believe some of the yellowing people are experiencing is from the adhesive they used to glue the panel to the actual frame of the ipad. ifixit even comments on how it is glued down in there tear down.
