Apple's forthcoming iPhone 14 base model will start at $799, the same entry price as last year's 6.1-inch iPhone 13, according to a new rumor coming out of East Asia.

Actually, the starting retail price of the iPhone 13 is $829. The $799 price is with the $30 connectivity discount from AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.

iPhone 14 Max is introduced first time so will be interesting to find customer response. Hope, from front it looks like PRO model.

The regular iPhone should cost $649. That's what it cost every year for years until that greedy MBA suit beancounter Tim Cook decided to raise prices to please his beloved shareholders.

Apple has been even "greedier" in the past, plus you still have to factor in a bit for inflation over the years. The last time a regular iPhone started at $649 at launch was the 32GB iPhone 7 in 2016. Adjusting for inflation, $649 would be nearly $800 today and, again, that was for a 32GB phone.

The starting point for the iPhone 13 (and presumably also the 14) is 128GB. The 128GB iPhone 7 was $749 or around $921 in today's dollars. On a comparable storage size basis, iPhones have gotten notably cheaper.

For everyone planning to buy an iPhone 14, do you need to buy an iPhone 14 or do you want to buy an iPhone 14? Please be honest.

The pricing of the Mini is what help to kill it. That phone really should have been 399.
Probably not that low since it has current tech but in the $499 range. The SE should be at $299 and maybe that's where we should focus the blame since it sells for $429.

Considering they just changed the name and kept the same 12 months old tech it should cost less, as it’s essentially an old product dressed up as a new one.

The iPhone 13 and 13 mini are essentially the same phone except for size. The mini screen size is about 88% that of the 13. Based on that, the 128GB mini price should've been around $730 which is darn close to the actual $729 price. $399 would've been way too low to justify its existence.

I honestly think their products are still a good investment as long as you take care of them. I'm really frugal and always buy their cheapest products. Their resale value keeps me pretty well updated.

The "old tech" will cost less. Presumably, once the iPhone 14 launches you will be able to get a new iPhone 13 for around $100 less than it is now. If someone feels the 14 isn't a big enough improvement, they can buy a 13 for less.

My guess:

iPhone SE: $429
iPhone 12 mini: $499
iPhone 12: $599
iPhone 13 mini: $599
iPhone 13: $699
iPhone 14: $799
iPhone 14 Max: $899
iPhone 14 Pro: $1099
iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1199
If any mini is kept it will only be one. So the 12 mini will be dropped.

I’m unsure sure if they will drop the regular 13 given it’s so similar to the 14 (assuming the same chip). I’m wondering if they’ll drop it and keep the 12 around as the lower cost phone.

Making it.
iPhone SE: $429
iPhone 12: $599
iPhone 13 mini: $599
iPhone 14: $799
iPhone 14 Max: $899
iPhone 14 Pro: $1099
iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1199

If there is no price increase, given inflation, it costs less. Inflation has been high in much of the world this past year. Let’s just round to 10% for simplicity, although that doesn’t apply to every product and component. It’s highly unlikely there has been a price decrease in components and making the products. This makes the iPhone more expensive to make and means if this rumor is true, Apple is at least partially eating the inflation, rather than passing it all on.

I was thinking, with that big chunk out of the screen, shouldn't it cost less?

Not to mention the mini's components (and hence their costs) do not shrink. Also, the mini's screen has higher PPI with thinner bezels.

A product should cost exactly as much as people are willing to spend for it.
The iPhone, as the most successful product on the planet, is perfectly priced.

Price it lower and see if people will complain.

Do you really have a choice if you want an iOS device?

I think you'll find that is only the (PRODUCT)RED models.

(Though they might manage black with CocaCola Zero or rose gold based on Vanilla.)

Nah the 12 mini won't be dropped. It helps hit the $500 price point.

Makes sense that Apple will keep the same price given the minimal changes, even more so this year with last year’s A15 (even if it’s the same version as the one in the 13 Pro).

I agree with you that the 14 should be $699 and the 14 Max should be $799 instead.
Although, the iPhone Xr was $749 when it was launched beside the Xs and Xs Max. Which was followed by the iPhone 11 which had a price drop to $699.
Crazy that flagships start at $799 now. I remember when they only sold one or two models and it was always usually $649

iPhone XR was a colossal failure due to the price. Apple had to cut price in East Asia and aggressively promote trade in, increasing trade in values and use carrier deals to indirectly lower the price after the fact. I remember Apple also slashed earning forecast that year because of lower than expected demand.

I love my iPhone 12 mini. Wish I would have held out for the 13 mini since it sounds like it'll be the last one. I was just tired of having a huge phone (coming from the 8 plus. The Pro Max phones are just bonkers to me lol)
