The picture may be 100% real, and still meaningless.

Imagine your an av guy setting up an Intel show, and you wanna stir up all the Mac rumor mongers, just project the logo, snap a pic, and sit back and watch the fracas.

This is the kind of prank av geeks love.

check out the preview monitor @ the center control desk - apple logo there as well

I cant get into photoshop right now..but somebody PLEASE try the following:

measure the circle in the middle of the test pattern on the LCD and compare it to the "apple" circle. If they are exactly the same size i say FAKE. The circle was obviously a convenient grab for a PS job.

ALSO....HELLO! Why would they announce this at a INTEL event...one week after MacWorld..seems like it would be big enough news to make MWSF..

Absolutely not true...

This goes against logic -- Apple is in no strategic position to be switching to Intel chips; this would be the equivalent of committing suicide. The IBM 970 is just around the corner and no one should be jumping to any conclusions about this particular engagement. I guarantee you that Jobs is NOT speaking at this gathering.

Perhaps there is something else to do with an Apple tablet-like device or the next iPod, but as far as computers go, the IBM 970 is firmly planted in the Apple camp.

I do know this from a friend in Japan:
Sony is preparing to release the next PlayStation console, Play Station III. The thing is is that they have no idea which processor to place in the machine. The IBM 970 is at the forefront and may be the reason why it was developed in the first place. Velocity Engine technology was placed in it at the microprocessor forum at the last minute, just in case they need a backup plan (IBM that is), i.e., for Apple to buy the chip. Apple has been talking with AMD for a long time now (about two years since the dissolution of the G5 team at Motorola.)

It's just a matter of a strategic decision right now. Does Apple want to rely on its sales of notebooks for one year (the IBM 970 plan) or do they want to place AMD Hammer chips in their PowerMac line at this year's MWNY expo. It's all a matter of economics. :D

Is it just me or does the apple look off center (even from the perspective the photographer is at)...I would think, if it is indeed off center that apple would have done a better job..I would love for this to be real but I am having a hard time justifying why it would be there:( ...

You have a good point there, I'm against an Apple-Intel relationship, so I'm probably more likely to call it a fake.

Also, has anyone noticed that this is a Marketing event. I can't believe there would be any ground breaking announcements at a marketing event.

An Apple Intel joint venture on OS X would mean a much cheaper Mac, as more and more people will own one or a clone!

THIS IS GOOD if it's real!

I think Steve's Keynote answered your question there. Buy a laptop, or wait ten months.

Also, Apple pulled out of MWNY.

Is this an apple laptop? Its near the bottom right corner on the full size picture....

I don't think there's been a final call on that yet.

I selected the circle and dragged it over the large circle in the color test pattern. Perfect fit... Seems a bit more like a fake... Who knows, though.

AirPort

If I remember correctly, it wasn't Intel that Apple used for the 802.11a chips and stuff, it was Lucent. The new AirPort Extreme chips may be made by Intel.

If this is real, I certainly don't think it's anything like switching to Intel, etc. Probably something about AirPort or something, with Steve just saying that "Intel provided the best chips for AirPort Extreme" or something like that.

Nobody in the MacRumors AIM Room?

Suprised nobodys in the MR aim chat room talking about it. Really I don't think this is a big deal, if it was we'd know by now.

Look the IBM 970 is not 'around the corner' it is more like down the hallway take a right and down the staires.
Look they are like pre-testing. Testing, Maybe.

they are no where near producing this chip inless you want to tell us something we DON'T know.

Bets are against this being real for many factors but again I'd like to see a AMD-Apple Annocment.

Yes Intel (and the majority of corporations) is behind 802.11a and Apple is behind 802.11g = big conflict (at least for now, until a chip is ready for 802.11a/b/g etc). That alone makes any sort of Intel/Apple collaboration less likely. add to that the firewire vs USB 2 conflict. Apple did all the initial work for Intel, basically allowing Intel's USB to take off then Intel jumped on the USB market with USB 2 and so on..

As previously stated, this is the fastest growing thread in recent history, 3386 views in two hours. That's more than any active thread on the general board.

Whoever did this, real or fake, sure did cause a lot of commotion.
