I actually really like the S6 Edge design. If I were an Android user and was into that ecosystem, I would absolutely have bought it. They just don't sell well it seems. All of my Apple hating friends talk a lot but never buy the new Samsung phones... They are "upgrading" to S5s... :/ Really?

Only the losers would mention the winners in their ad...
Do we see BMW mention Cadillac in their ad?

Apple has done the exact same thing on a myriad of occasions. They've bashed Microsoft, the PC, the Zune, android, among other things. They've also taken shots at Android at their iPhone events too. Making fun of the competition isn't a Samsung thing. If it had been the GS6 that suffered from "bendgate" you better believe Phil Schiller would've had some smart ass comment to make.

The Edge thing I never really get but I dig Samsung's wide angle capability. For the selfie generation, that would be a truly useful feature.

I could have seen them do something like that for next year (7>6s), but that is just ridiculous. The more you try to tell people that "x" is better than "y," the more they will go for "x" (also applies to the Mac and PC ads). It's kind of just human nature. Some would even argue that they are giving the iPhone 6 free advertisement! I don't remember them ever showing their main competitor's products head-to-head like that. What do you guys think?

You know which other phone has an edge that displays nothing? The Galaxy S6. You know, the other phone made by the same people. Is Samsung saying that the S6 is useless because it doesn't have an edge display too? Hopefully it has a vibrate function!

I really don't understand the decisions with the S6 models. Waterproofing was a great idea and they made a big fuss about it with the S5, but then removed the feature for the S6. Not that important then?

What about having a replaceable battery? Again, they made a big fuss about how the iPhone has a built in battery, but not here.

What about removable storage? Hey, the iPhone has never taken cards, but Samsung does... until this generation.

We all know about the bending thing, too.

I've raised some of these points before and people have said "Well, if you want those, you can still get the S5." I'm afraid that solution isn't really going to work for everyone. If you think a feature is important, and make a huge fuss about it, expect some questions when you remove that feature with the very next phone that you make.

Really bizarre decisions and marketing from Samsung, to be honest. Don't get me wrong, Apple makes some strange decisions too.

"Not all smartphones are created equal...we tried"
Now that Apple has larger phones, Samsung is really running out of things to feel superior in. Its not that the S6 takes better pictures, the pictures are wider [not sure if this is an aspect ratio thing]. Comparative advertising is a fools errand.

As I was reading how dumb they were being, when they said about taking WIDER pictures, DURRRR Samsung. All Apple iPhone users have to do is BACK UP. Its not that we would have to chop anyones head off. BACK UP DUURRRR

It may be an iCloud problem. Try turning it off. Then take it into the store if that doesn't work.

Apple got something messed up here, but I don't think it's a problem with the hardware itself most of the time. In other words, it should be fixable. If not they usually replace your phones, under warranty - even if you don't have Apple Care. But don't wait too long until your warranty is up.
I've tried everything including a factory reset and setting up as a new phone. It gets stuck in landscape mode multiple times a day, frequently I dial a number and it wont connect, the screen freezes up, the camera switches to HDR and square and video on its own, it is now sending my texts to the WRONG person, the wireless frequently decides to quit working, email wont download, Siri is completely worthless at recognizing my commands, and more. Never had these problems before with my 4, 4s, 5, 5s. My wife's phone is 5 months newer than mine and is also experiencing a lot of the same problems.

I mean, you're at MacRumors. That should say everything.

NOPE.

There're plenty of samsung fans and androids fans on macrumours just for the purpose of bashing Apple and Apple fans.

I don't mind the idea of using ad time to directly compare your product with your rival's, but Samsung chooses the dumbest features to highlight. The side of the phone lights up? Wider selfies?

Wireless charging is cool. I'll give them that.

That's because there're any real useful features to distinguish it from the iPhone

Apple was the underdog when they made fun of Microsoft and the PC.

And today... 8 out of 10 smartphones sold are NOT made by Apple. Again... underdog.

But Samsung sells more smartphones than any other company on Earth.

So I guess Samsung is threatened by Apple... Apple must be doing something right.

These ads are boring when Samsung isn't personally insulting iPhone users to try and get them to switch :p

Having never used it, I don't understand wireless charging's appeal. How is it so much better than plugging a cable in, and is it just as fast? Right now it seems like it would be more expensive to implement and more expensive to use (buy the chargers and/or have one readily available). I'm asking a serious question here - what am I missing?

Agreed. The ONLY time wireless charging would have some appeal is when charging stations are everywhere. When your local coffee shop table is a potential charging area it will be super convenient to just put your phone down and start charging. Until the rest of the real world follows, it's just another gimmick and no different or convenient to plugging a physical cable in.

Not really sure I care too much about wireless charging since those bases are huge and ugly (way worse than a thin little lightning cord running to the phone for sure), and it takes like half a second to plug a cord in -- especially reversible lightning vs. micro USB.

What I want is a bigger battery on the non-plus iPhone..... I wish they'd just make it a little thicker and put a bigger battery in it. So, so, so terribly much. That's still a real-world pain point.

"iPhones are too thick"
-Nobody. Ever.

"iPhones other than the 6+ need longer lasting batteries"
-Yep, pretty much everyone.

I think advertising whilst bashing the competition can work, if you do it effectively. Some of Samsung's though, are just awful. Two come to mind when I think of their... "lesser" ads: The 2012 Superbowl one (where the Apple Store line breaks free and all get Galaxies and synchronize dance with the entire city, with every person holding a Galaxy ) and the "Wallhugger" one, where originally the iPhone had more screen time than their own Galaxy phone.

I'm not saying all of Apple's commercials have been all perfect and clean (I hated most of the iPhone 5 ones), but Samsung really needs to take a break from comparing themselves to iPhone all the time. They're basically admitting that the iPhone is the standard that they have to look up to.

Have you actually seen some of the phones that Samsung sell? $50 smartphones are about as useful as a brick and are just rubbish. There is a market for them though. Apple does't even try to compete at that level. I guess it depends on what you'd like your company to be known for, quantity or quality.

It's like watching an animal that's caught in a trap, struggling for its last breath. At that point they'll try anything to survive. But seriously if people cannot see that Samsung copy Apple, then the points you made above should make it very clear, and they'll do it even if it means they have to drop features that they've hyped up not so long ago.

16 Hours Battery, this is what everybody needs. Not the fancy charging methods.

They contradict themselves so badly too!

"The S6 comes with wireless charging capabilities" .. Except you don't actually get the charger pad included.. So it's just a capability, like they said right? But then they mention "the iPhone 6? Not quite so.." Yet if you go ahead and purchase the Lightning adapter for wireless charging you can charge it.. Wait for it, wirelessly. So technically the iPhone comes with wireless charging capabilities..

Way to go Sammy.
