Seriously people, Apple has done all of the same things in the past that many of you are crucifying Samsung for doing now.

yeah and apparently samsung never learned from SOME of Apple's commercial mistakes. its their problem now.

I love your incredible knowledge of all apple commercials.

So the Nintendo DS was a failure because it had a stylus?

portable gaming device should be just one item. that is why they called it the Gameboy Pocket because it is meant to fit in your pocket on the go. You wouldn't shove a pen and portable device in your pocket.

The whole stylus thing doesn't bother me and I feel it is more of a personal opinion. I would rather not have a stylus though.

The problem is that Samsung is not attacking the competitor's product. They're attacking competitor's customers, the ones they're supposedly trying to win over. That is a huge fail!

Well the group that tends to wait in lines over night are fanboys and girls. A group that would not change their mind even if Apple was to sell dog crap in a box. Now getting the people on a fence is another story.
I personally fine the ads kind of funny because in some ways they are poking fun at the Apple fanboys and girls. If one can not laugh at themselves they have issues.

The iPhone 4S was released many months ago last fall.

I did not stand in line for my 4S and I got it launch day. Anyone could have got one launch day if they used their brain a little and thought as an independent thinker rather than as a "sheep".

You just had to figure out where everything was going to be sold out and/or have lines and look outside of the beaten paths to smaller stores or stores in malls outside of downtown and popular destinations.

Any larger city has multiple malls and some of them are more popular than others so you have to pick the one that still has multiple cell phone carrier stores in it but is less busy on average. Alternatively, you can look for smaller stores on some of the quieter side streets or avenues.

The "Mac vs. PC" ads never made fun of the "PC" users (i.e. the audience Apple was trying to win over). Even when poking fun at the "PC", they did it in a friendly, as if they felt sorry for the "inferior" "PC", way. With all their aggressive marketing, never did Apple poke fun at the "PC" user or portray them in negative light. If Samsung wanted to successfully mirror Apple's past marketing campaign, they have failed with this one here.

Quite true. Remember, they even made the "PC" guy somewhat of a lovable nerd.

The Mac vs PC ads depicted real consumers who had never thought about using a Mac but got fed up with the PC and gave the Mac a chance and liked it. They didn't make fun of PC users at all. They related to real life incidents and told them to try something different, poking fun at the platform, not the people. The Samsung ads almost scream "Don't be an iSheep, buy a Samsung because everyone else is doing so."

the scalpers had those covered also

As a marketing exec, my passing thoughts were,"what's wrong with these people? They look like they're on crack"...."where's the product?"....."oh there it is, what is it? A tablet or a phone?"...."it has a stylus?!? Oh god"

The ad is absolutely right. How else am I supposed to get autographs when I run into celebrities in the street?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A406)

Steve Jobs said "If you need a stylus then you've already failed" -D8 not blew it.. **** Samsung, they want to be Apple so bad. Jealous that people wait in line for a iPhone while there phones stay on the shelf.. Samsung phones are a bunch of blue screen plastic *****

Since I live in NYC and pass by the 5th Avenue store quite frequently, I can tell you that the vast majority of people waiting in line last October were scalpers (or people acting on behalf of scalpers). In general, most people I know (I work at a large accounting firm) bought their iPhones online, waited until the crowds died down a bit, or reserved from lower traffic stores.'

I work with a lot of well-paid professionals who purchased the iPhone 4S over the past few months. None of us waited in long lines. I'm probably the biggest "tech nerd" of the bunch, and have bought products on the first day (Windows 95, XP, the 2008, 2010, and 2011 MacBook Airs), but avoided the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 lines like the plague. My colleagues just waited until the wait times were reasonable and ordered online. The Samsung ad likely fell flat on all of us. I waited about 2 weeks until they implemented the online reservation system and then found a relatively low traffic store in the suburbs. :)

Carrier stores. They would not sell you one unless if you either signed up for service or already had service with them.
My previous carrier (Fido) would not even sell me one even though I was an existing customer and expected me to use their reservation system. They were only willing to sell phones they had in stock to new signups which is one of the reasons why I switched to Telus.

So given that you had to have service or sign up for service, would not be able to get more than a couple of phones max and each of them had to be on a line with that carrier.

I agree a stylus sucks for typing but for more precise things like writing words or in precise games I think it's pretty good. So many good DS games out there that wouldn't work without it. Nice to have both capacitive touch and a stylus I think.

haaa

Just going to point out FaceTime rip off of other products. Android already had video chatting before facetime. Just figure I would point that out to you.

Sorry not one person knew about it or used it. Never heard of FaceTime on droids ,and have never ever ever ever seen it done on droid
But FaceTime everybody knows

LOL at Apple fanboys getting mad. It's what Apple did to Microsoft (and failed, so they stopped). The ad was great and it really depicts the sadness of people that stupidly wait in lines for something they can just as easily walk into a store and buy a day or two later. Sheep need to be mocked. Good job.

The problem is:
-This phone has been out outside the US for a while
-In the US, it's locked to AT&T
-It's not running ICS, despite being released AFTER the Galaxy Nexus, a bit that Samsung obviously won't mention. It's like advertising a computer running Vista after Windows 7 is out.

I used to kinda like Samsung, but it seems their copycat behavior is just intolerable, and I'm not talking about their Android phones. Japanese companies like Sony and Canon have been quite annoyed with Samsung copying their designs, UI, etc on their photo/video devices.

Wow. Look at how many comments it got it.

Amazing. Samsung knows a good marketing scheme.

To be fair, Steve Jobs put down the stylus as the primary input method for a touchscreen device. To which I wholeheartedly agree.
He never said that there was no use and no purpose for a stylus, ever.

That's like saying a trackpad is perfect for all applications and there is no use for a mouse, ever. Simply not true.

That said, a pen stylus on an iPhone or an iPad would be nice for amateur sketching, but that's about it. I'm still waiting for a paintbrush stylus with multiple tips for accurate painting.
