You can feel the defensiveness coming from the competition. Samsung's Note ads on day 1 and now this. Bigger screen iPhones are the death of Android popularity. Geeks will still want 15 home screens and 8 custom clocks, but the vast majority of people want a beautiful product with an OS that is simple and works well most of the time.

Android is complicated mess of carrier bloatware, manufacturer software skins, inconsistent OS updates, and overthought feature-clutter. Yuck.

Just because iPhones are the best alternative at the moment doesn't mean you should overlook any of their problems, or use the 'they're the best of a bad bunch' argument.

Oh get off it. So every time people want to sit, according to you, they should take their phone out of their pocket? For a $1000 device made by a company that claim they put the user experience above all else?

Yes. Actually yes. I actually expect people not to sit on a $1000 device. I expect people to take their notebook out of their backpack before they throw the backpack in the river. I expect them to wheel their 42 inch TV out the front door before they burn down their house. I expect them to take off their $5000 Rolex before they get into the ring to fight for the heavyweight boxing title. I expect people to have at least a trace of common sense.

And yes, when someone sits on a Samsung phone with an aluminum unibody and it - how surprisingly - bends as well, I will facepalm just as much.

so 10 phones out of 2 million?

Samsung is reaching. Of course their phones can't bend they're like bricks.

I saw how hard those guys were trying to bend the phone on purpose. I don't see it as being a big deal. People shouldn't be sitting on their phones anyway.

Where are you getting these facts that it's just 10 phones? Somebody's bending the truth.

I said it's embarrassing to be an Apple fan. Phones should not bend in pockets, updates should not kill cellphone service, iCloud hacks should be fixed. Period.

we should not expect that phablets shouldn't bend in pockets in certain situations though, stupid amounts of leverage are possible, and I don't want to carry a fat super strong phablet just so it can't bend in pockets.

also, icloud wasn't hacked, dumbasses with easy to guess security questions or passwords were phished and the loopholes that may have made that a little easier have been closed down. If they all had been using the 2 factor that was available, it wouldn't have happened.

I like the tweets .. it's natural and healthy to poke fun at your rivals without anyone getting their knickers in a twist about it - some of the responses on here are insane.

Also if Apple didn't lord it up so much then perhaps they wouldn't get quite as much of a kicking when they messed up :)

Fact is that it would seem that the 6+ is more susceptible to this kind of damage than the competition. I don't think 'you're pocketing it wrong' will wash this time either, the stakes are pretty high.

This is no excuse for a multibillion dollar company and they will get away with this because there apple.

Competition is great for everyone. It ensures companies are still at the top of their game. So yes, Apple deserves this. They've been slipping on their QA recently with this and also software 8.0.1.

On a side note. These are hilarious. Made me laugh out loud!

beat Apple? I forgot iOS devices dominate the global market share... OH WAIT.

Is Apple going to get a patent for this "bend" feature? ROFL.

Well, if these companies are "dominating", they sure have some insecurity issues. If you're on top why even give any attention to your competition?

I am calling all people idiots that do not respect their own property and try to use it properly. People that use their phone normal and experience issues with it are of course not in this category..
I had an HTC One M8 and I tried carrying it in my pocket, but it was too uncomfortable for me. It beats me how someone would like to carry an even bigger phone in a jeans pocket, but I guess everybody is different. The fact is that a phablet should be carried in a different way..

Even if you carry it in a pocket, one would think it would be noticeable when it feels too tight, and take it out of said pocket. I have slim jeans and took it out of my pocket when sitting down because it was ridiculously uncomfortable. No bending.

People here act like someone could rob their house but they still shouldn't have to lock the doors because it isn't convenient. I don't get this mentality at all.

I usually put my phone in my back pocket, but remove it out of habit when I sit. It's always occurred to me that a thin phone with a glass front shouldn't be sitting in your pocket with any kind of pressure against it. I'm sort of amazed by all this to hear that there are actually people out there lacking the common sense (or maybe they're just too lazy) to pull a phone out of their pocket when they sit.

Seems like a nonissue to me but who knows? Maybe phone makers need to idiot-proof their products to an extreme nowadays.

This was expected... this is going to be a hard time to be a Apple fan.

But seriously though, how hard is it to take out your iPhone when you sit down. The phone only bends if you are sitting for long periods. Sitting down with a iPhone 6 Plus is uncomfortable if anything. Who drives with an iPhone in there pocket for long distances, just take it out and put it somewhere in the car.

Read what you are saying please.

Cell phones from the beginning have been kept in pockets, this isn't a new concept and Apple should have been prepared for real world use. Falling back to the legendary "You're holding it wrong" excuse is absurd and ridiculous.

I understand and appreciate Samsung, LG and HTC... but what the hell is Blackberry doing making fun of anyone?

Your examples are way off the mark.

A phone going into pockets is normal use.

A better example would be playing video games on an older plasma and possibly getting burn in.

The reaction to this is very strange. I'm seeing Pringles (yes, PRINGLES) commenting on this. It's very bizarre.

I'm personally not too worried about the whole bending iPhone thing. And HTC and Samsung are ones to talk.

What do you know..their phones bend too!

So yeah. I am expecting Apple to soon release an open letter on the issue, and I am also assuming they will be issuing refunds for any bended devices.

People have been putting phones in their pockets since they were small enough to do so. Apple should prepare accordingly. I expect better from them.

If they knew about the loopholes back in May, why didn't they close them *then*? Why sit on them until they became a public embarrassment? That's the sort of stuff that gets companies in trouble.

The reaction to this is very strange. I'm seeing Pringles (yes, PRINGLES) commenting on this. It's very bizarre.

It's become a very public, embarrassing issue for one of the biggest companies in the world. Companies jump on the opportunity to use the hashtags/etc for views and free publicity.

Invalid, says you.

I was one of the few people who actually called the bending a design flaw when the story first broke while everyone else and made excuses. I'm not a blind Apple follower where I can't see apples own flaws. Check the post history. It's a design flaw, or a bad batch. I'm willing to put money where my mouth is and bet Apple will do the right thing and issue free replacements

I think it was a design choice, not a flaw. Maybe not a good one for a lot of people, but I would rather have a slightly fragile 6+ than a tank of a phablet that is impossible to bend in a pocket. i expect slight tweak or improvement in the 6s, then finally dealt with in the 7. See antennagate for how things like this play out.

Over 20 years of people using pocket phones prove you wrong.

Of course, Apple does not have that much experience.

Why on earth would you put a piece of rectangular glass/metal/plastic in your back pocket AND sit on it. Repeatedly.
